Essence Magazine has an annual ‘Will You Marry Me?’ contest. This year, one of the 5 finalists is Nigerian. Ebiakpo proposed to his longtime girlfriend DeKeisha via a heartfelt letter in Essence.

Dear DeKeisha,
I was instantly attracted to you during a chance meeting on a ski trip to Boston. But I could’ve kicked myself for not getting your number immediately. As fate would have it, we ran into each other a month later in New York. I remember telling my cousin, “I’m going to marry this woman.” You were so warm and giving. In 2007, when you were diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, I was heartbroken. The disease only made me realize that I never want to leave your side. You once asked me if I could meet anyone, who would it be. The answer is, and always will be, our children. I can’t wait until we start our family. Will you marry me?

Dear Ebs,
For the past five years, our admiration and assurance for each other has gained strength with every heartbeat. You are a caring and compassionate man, with a sexy swagger to match. I never imagined that you would “seal the deal” in such a grand and creative way. You’ve made me one of the happiest women on this earth with the surprise proposal in Essence. With you, I have a tight bond and now we’ll spend the rest our days adoring each other.
