Last week, we showcased 3 past collections from Vlisco as well as information on the Vlisco Fashion Academy. Exclusively on Bella Naija, here is the latest collection from Vlisco and its named ‘Urban Beat’.

T h e c i t y s w i n g s
The new fabric collection, ‘Urban Beat’ by Vlisco, combines contemporary, city chic with a hint of ethnic charm. Just as the fashion world is paying homage to ethnic design & tribal prints, Vlisco has used its rich heritage to create an upbeat collection of graphic melodies. Strong graphic symbols from both tribal roots & urban origin are married in rhythmical sequence to create an eclectic range of unique fabrics. Globes, arrows & skylines, from an urban landscape, are just some of the references used in harmony with feathers, batik and artisan drawings of ethnic origin. The colours similarly range from steely, cold blues and vibrant pink to earthy tones of sand and ochre. The end result is up-tempo city chic with international allure.

    • Nma January 19, 2009 at 12:20 PM

      i am stealing..

    • Dimeji January 19, 2009 at 2:59 PM

Wht cant africans be original…why did they have to steal the YSL bob look?

    • yety January 19, 2009 at 3:47 PM

wow this is soooooo amazing, love the sharp edgy bold look, well nice :-)

    • chikito January 19, 2009 at 3:49 PM

i didnt know YSL had exclusive rights to the bob look?? lol

    • Ladi January 19, 2009 at 4:27 PM

If YSL used dreads or braids or cornrows on his models…then he should pay royalty abi? When did a ‘purewater’ hairstyle like bob become YSL’s? With 6billion people in the world thats just lame.

Oya suggest a hairstyle for these models….

By the way, I own the afro look so Bella warn Vlisco not to use afros any time soon else I sue. LOL!!!!

    • someteen year old January 19, 2009 at 6:55 PM

lmao… they’re showcasing the clothes, not the hairstyles, so your comment is rather irrelevant, don’t you think?

    • nony January 19, 2009 at 9:45 PM

      absolutely gorgeous

    • Qed January 19, 2009 at 11:26 PM

@bella I nominate these designers for the thisday thingy in newyork…
these styles are fabulosly creative…alot better than most of the copy and paste taliors calling themselves nigerian designers.

    • Bridget Otubor January 20, 2009 at 3:51 PM

am enthralled by the designs, absolutely fabulous! l must comment

    • Akos January 21, 2009 at 2:14 AM

i see vlisco is hard at work cos the competition is so fierce for them now, eventhough they were one of the early pioneers (at least in ghana i know), now they got competition from all sorts (e.g woodin) and the chinese bootleggers arent making it any easier. Good luck to their new campaign. Personally now i’d go for a woodin or akosombo textile than a vlisco. They NEVER fade.

    • Ladi January 21, 2009 at 6:02 AM

What of Kaduna Textiles (for those from the north) those were the ish back in the day…now they’ve all closed down laying off hundreds. Is Vlisco Nigerian?

I’m currently supporting local fabrics no more China abeg….Cheap but our folk are losing their jobs!

    • Stritchick A January 24, 2009 at 2:09 PM

      WOW this is so cool…

    • Olaronke January 24, 2009 at 3:34 PM

    • Cici January 24, 2009 at 11:51 PM

Chei, these designs are fierce. When I look at some of the top designers collection, i ask who and where do you wear it to, but I guess that is the fun and art of it. This is outstanding.

    • Bola February 23, 2009 at 12:04 AM

      chei, chei, chei!

Who’s the desiner though for these Visco patterns?

Both the models and desiner should definately be on the International fahsion front. STUNNING!

These pieces are simply stunning. I’m a bit confused now . . . . is Vlisco the designer? Or who designs these pieces? Can I get some contact information please?
