Everyone look beautiful! the one thing that i don’t like are the Bleachers, black people for the love of god, stop damaging and stripping away the melanin in your skin

      Bleaching makes you stink

    • mindyourbusiness April 9, 2009 at 6:22 PM

how do you know they bleach? are you the one supplying them the cream? dont hate – black is beautiful, no matter what shade its in. you see a fair skinned black woman and you automatically have to assume that shes bleaching.

    • nm April 9, 2009 at 6:34 PM

latasha has lost so much weight!good for her!!

    • Idide Akeh April 9, 2009 at 7:43 PM

funke ogunde’s lookin so pwetti!!!! go gal

    • ladi April 9, 2009 at 8:10 PM

How are they bleaching? Not all black people look like Alek Wek.

    • tomi April 9, 2009 at 8:21 PM

If you know some of these people personally or even look at their pictures on this site, you will notice that some of them are getting progressively lighter which is an unusual effect for the african sun to have on the skin.

Also its pretty easy to distinguish btwn naturally light skin and bleached skin and all my friends who bleach can spot another girl who does from a mile away. (green undertone, burn patches, weird smell etc).

I dont think her point was that black people must be dark, rather that the ones who were born that way should be prepared to stay that way because its equally as beautiful.

    • Joke April 9, 2009 at 9:24 PM

Bella, this is so nice. nigerians are beginning to dress decently again. Its generally beautiful.

    • Kim April 10, 2009 at 1:44 AM

What makes you think that they women are bleaching. Just because a black or African person is light skin does not mean that they are bleaching their skin. I am light skin myself and i would be offended if people automatically think that i am bleaching when i am not. Not all Africans are pitch black.

    • aosgrl April 10, 2009 at 2:18 AM

Hey Bella! It would help if for those of us that don’t know these socialites, you tell us their name and why they are so “Social” i.e their profession, the reason for their fame, their associates etc. Its rather unfortunate say we no get wikis for naija personailities :D

But wow, Birkins, LV, Chloe’s, Fendi all up in that mug. Naija babes na die !

    • Regina Nestor April 10, 2009 at 9:06 AM

men! i must confess that’s a great out fit u have there. they are lovely and it is promoting my decency. thank you Bella naija!

    • Inez April 10, 2009 at 12:53 PM

Some people just toning there’s a difference between toning and bleaching. Believe me, bleaching is no more in the market. All the skin care products these days aim at removing the long term effect of the sun on our skin. When this happens there’s always some lightening of the skin involved. If you read dermatology you’d know that it isn’t called bleaching.

    • tomi April 10, 2009 at 1:25 PM

It smacks of the ghetto insecurity that is rife in our society. Most of the women on the “scene” would have no self-esteem if you stripped them of their “special effects”, the fact that most of that flossing is fake these days is even more distressing.

I’d rather buy an original design from Didi Ochega or one of the other local designers than some piece of logo’d chinese vinyl.
And its happening with dresses too! A couple of “socials” have regular sales of “designer” dresses where you can get Chloe, Marc, Dvf et al for a fraction of the price. All made in china, and all fake and some not very good fakes, ahem Deola Bale

If you subscribe to the “DESIGNER OR DIE!!!” ethos, save up your pennies and buy the real thing so that you dont have to be paranoid that people will notice the Marc on your bags lining is spelt with a K. Better yet develop a personality so your bag doesnt have to do the talking for you.

    • tomi April 10, 2009 at 1:29 PM

      lol! keep telling yourself that.

    • kemi April 10, 2009 at 1:59 PM

alot of these women are buisness moguls themselves or married to a wealth husband or have really wealthy parents so pls leave them alone eventhough alot of them look young they are married with kids. for the haters there are alot of wealthy people in nigeria that can afford hermes etc, but truth be told nigerians bleach too much or tone

    • kemi April 10, 2009 at 6:19 PM

i understand what you are saying we do have alot of fakers but alot of the women in this particular pics are the real deal alot of these women are the quiet wealthy ones trust me i know about the fake big girlz. the pics have people like adesuwa dozie(husband ed at diamond back also she is the head legal secetary at coca cola nigeria, reni folawiyo(married to the billionaire tunde folawiyo and she is the ceo of one of the biggest manufacture of furniture) michelle okocha married to peter okocha one of the richest ibo men in nigeria she is also the md of one of the biggest gallery in nigeria, you have alilia hart she is the ceo of montainge place also the person that brought clairns to nigeria, you have delores odeguwu who her father is one of the nigeria billionaire you also have tola adegbite who is a billionire daughter. also tokini peterside her father is the chairman of ibtc and countless other wealthy hard working women i personally know 85% of the women and young ladies in these particular pics and they are the real deals. these women are not your typical naija babes so pls respect.

Now com’on girls don’t get to carried away am sure the reason bella puts up these type of posts is for us to see how Nigerian women are now becoming very fashionable and how our society have embraced some daring dress sense ( e g tube top dress ) God! Like how many years ago you couldn’t wear them out without okada guys and area boys telling you something that would make you want to go back home and change…

Now to what I think the post was all about comments on the clothes and style …

Line 1 dress on jeans is a no no, it doesn’t look good, all others okay , loving the jump suit, would have paired with a black ankle boots to be more daring….

Line 2 I would like to say all thongs, ballet and flat sandals are no no except you are going to the beach or walking the dog or just popping out to buy sugar…anything in my book and I stress in my book less than 3inches should not be worn to occasions like this at all…. The lady in legging ( god I hate them) am lost for words and the mc hammer jump suit look alike is a fail…
And as for leggings I think should only be worn if you are a dancer/ or to wear if you are doing house work…

Line 3 nice dress except for the flat sandals.. arghhhh.
Line 4 again dress on jeans fail in that and a few sandals..
Line 5 loving the Ankara pieces, 1st and 2nd would say are too causal for the occasion but nice still..
Line 6 would it be wrong if I say tube dress are meant for summery days out like to the beach or just taking a stroll…regardless if it African print.. lady in blue looks good…
Line 7 dress on jeans and sandals no no… 2nd lady and 4th
Line 8 uhmm okay.. love the mint coloured dress
Line 9 My best dressed so far.. why did she have to be with the leggings ladies arghh…, the 2nd lady has to be for me the best dressed of the lot, so simple and classy, the black silk pants easily compliments her peach (is it) top. regular sized belt compliments the pants without over shadowing it…the combination works because nothing is trying to take the focus from the whole outfit 9/10…1st and 3rd what could be worse…ehh.. the 4th lady I think she’s a designer but ehmm half and half isn’t it a faux pas..
Line 10 all good looking dresses except the one with the animal horn print…not sure of the statement she’s trying to make…1st lady love the heels (love heels by the way I refer back to my anything below 3 inches ) the 4th lady, lovely dress but the mary amaka (I think they are called mary jane but I call them mary amaka) shoes killed it for me, a nice black 6 inches not 3, pumps would have really complimented the dress.

Line 11 ..nice nice..but can still see some sandals..
Line 12… I never understood the use of shrug ….but still some nice looking outfit, 3rd out fit all wrong.. from the sleeves too short to low neckline and the red band on tummy area.. such a confusing oufit…
Line 13..1st lady if I was at that occasion I would have poured some cold water on her back to see wether if she jumped up her boobs would have popped out..(although I would have said it was a mistake but ….it would have been on purpose)..all others except the lady in green nice dress.., just don’t know what to say…the lady in animal print why does she look like she’s going to pick her children from school…..i would wear that to pick up my children from school…. not to a fashion show..

Line 14 too many dresses on jean and ballerina shoes.. no no, 1st lady am sure some are thinking uhhhh yummy mummy..emmm no she’s wearing a dress on jeans…the 3rd lady nice top shame about the supposed “skinny jeans” more like tights.. a good combination would have been top tucked into a slightly above the knee pencil skirt no belt and a patent ankle boots (yes she’s got the legs for it)…accessorise with a single chunky black bangle…..with a black patent clutch…..yes I can see it beautiful…and edgy (does solange comes to anyone’s mind)

Line 15 1st lady lovely dress but shoe failed it all 2rd and 4th words fail me. now 3rd now that’s a bold and interesting look it works, I can’t explain it but it does…the linen pants I think ) and the top compliment each other very simple but bold cause of the tie up pants ..just a little cringe factor inner pocket visibility, other than that 7/10..

Line 16 nice looking dresses..except for the 1st and 2nd oufits the belts are the culprits 3rd all I’ll say feed that bag to the lions…(that’s if they would even eat it) because what in the name of hideousness is that…(sorry).. the 4th out fit … cool

As for the guys what can you say..how many ways can you design a suit..not many..

    • Ladi April 11, 2009 at 5:21 AM

Bella should pay you for this review.

    • Bola April 11, 2009 at 6:46 AM

Tee,abeg o. pls give us some hints about these pips.

It’s very tru about the ‘boro pose’ culture in Nigeria. My mum constantly told me this while growing up, “ALL that glitters is NOT gold”. She said if u go to the houses of some of these so-called big-ladies, it’l be hard not to hold your nose.

    • nneka April 11, 2009 at 11:37 AM

so what if a woman wants to dress good, thats there life. whats wrong wit it, she has the money to buy fake designers things . its what makes them happy, some of them have jobs and rich husbands if they want to have the handbag seller on speed dial no biggie. you can stil look good in fake fendi

    • tomi April 11, 2009 at 11:41 AM

So in your opinion, the best dressed woman at this event is wearing SATIN TROUSERS, A PEACH HALTER TOP AND MULES!!! (yes, I am shouting!). When is the judging taking place 1997???

      Fail!

    • jo April 11, 2009 at 2:16 PM

lol at the comments -maybe its me but i don’t see any designer garms. i see Forever 21, Target and even Primarni/Pradamark ….nothing grand about the outfits so not sure y peeps are beefing …no one really looks bleached to me , but 90% are wearing weaves ….lol

    • Dorah April 11, 2009 at 3:29 PM

Hahaha! Jo has a point….A very good one too!

    • michelle April 11, 2009 at 4:26 PM

      @tomi and tee..
it’s not an argument ..but would love to know which are your best dress…pls keep it civil… would also like to know why..

    • a April 11, 2009 at 5:03 PM

@michelle i skimmed through your comments and im wondering??????? How are you going to ask the girl in the jump suit to wear ankle boots……in Nigeria????? with all the heat , and you say they arent dressed suitably.
its a fashion show, come on now, they cant be wearing ball gowns now can they? watching new york fashion week on tv yesterday and there wasn’t one in sight.
Dress and leggins???? whats wrong with that, leggins arent for dancers…well not any more.
i guess its your opinion cos you said…”in your book” but that goes to show everyone has their own style.
Im soooooooooooooooooo sorry if i come across ….uhnmm harsh?
      not intended honestly.

    • sammy April 11, 2009 at 5:45 PM

I JUST CAN’T STAND FAKE GOOD AND PEOPLE WHO ROCK THEM. IF YOU WANNA LOOK LIKE A BIG GIRL, OR FEEL LIKE ONE, AND WANT PEOPLE TO RESPECT YOU THEN GET RID OF YOUR FAKE. WHEN YOU ARE A BIG GIRL, EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU SCREAMS BIGGGGGG. IT’S PATHETIC SEEING A WOMAN CARRYING A FAKE HERMES, PRADA, FENDI E.T.C BUT SHE CAN’T AFFORD A DECENT HOUSE, CAR, E.T.C.

LADIES STOP ROCKING FAKE. FAKE GOODS DON’T MAKE YOU LOOK LIKE A BIG CHIC, THEY MAKE YOU LOOK VERY SMALL.

ALSO, IF YOU HAVE ONE OF THOSE FAKE LOUIS VUITTON PLEASE GET RID OF IT. IT’S PLAYED OUT.

    • michelle April 11, 2009 at 7:21 PM

com’on you don’t sound harsh ..not one bit

there are lots of fashionable ankle boots out there which i think are now made to feel very comfortable, regardless of the weather (yes we all know that boots, be it knee or ankle are mainly made for cold weather.. .. just thought i pointed that out before i get the stick again..) and these days some are made with a peep hole at the toes to allow air in..but for her outfit it doesn’t matter if the ankle boots are closed or open toe she’s got a bit of leg exposed so at least some fresh air can get in, the occasion is just for a few hours, i don’t think that will rack up a life time of foot odour ….and a black patent slightly above the calf 6 inches boots will do… black patent because of the shimmering yet pailish colour of the jumpsuit..will surely bring out the edgyness of the jumpsuit..belt’s fine maybe a large black faux crocodile skin clutch purse with gold trimming, accessories.. a single gold tieup necklace with frills or a single chunky gold bangle (not both at once , one or the other…)

    • michelle April 11, 2009 at 7:22 PM

      I SECOND THAT…

    • michelle April 11, 2009 at 7:26 PM

      NO YOU CAN’T

    • nneka April 11, 2009 at 7:40 PM

They all looking good. like i said before you can still look good in fake fendi. They don’t have cars and house but they are still looking good. Some people can look good in paper bag. fake or no fake its still fashion. whatever makes them happy.

    • sammy April 11, 2009 at 9:16 PM

YOU’RE MISING THE POINT. NOBODY IS SAYING THESE LADIES DON’T LOOK GOOD. AS A MATER OF FACT A LOT OF THEM LOOK STUNNING. HOWEVER, YOU DON’T HAVE TO WEAR FAKE TO LOOK PRETTY. YOU CAN WEAR MUCH CHEAPER BRANDS AND STILL LOOK PRETTY AND RESPECTABLE.

NOTE: IT’S NOT WHAT YOU WEAR, BUT HOW YOU WEAR IT AND HOW YOU CARRY YOURSELF.

    • pam April 11, 2009 at 10:17 PM

na wah oh! Una sabi fight for dis place no be small.

      They look good.
      classy.

    • michelle April 11, 2009 at 11:03 PM

Yes you can, I agree with you Nneka!

    • Ladi April 12, 2009 at 10:18 AM

Weaves nowadays cost a fortune with 50k for just one head, is there money left for dresses other than Forever21. If I was to attend any of these events though, why splurge when I’m abroad on scholarship? Where else would my wetseal, primark, TJmaxx and H&M dresses be worn?

    • solomonsydelle April 12, 2009 at 10:31 AM

Bukky Lawal looks excellent in the Blue Dress!

    • Kpolongo April 12, 2009 at 10:21 PM

    • Jen April 13, 2009 at 1:33 AM

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL Michelle honey u sound like a nice person…. u really do, BUT boots are NEVER an option in Naija…..i repeat..NEVER!. It is very very very RAZZZZZZZZZZZ and i have always wondered why Naija girls think its OK. And with the jumpsuit?…u have got to be kidding me!. Patent boots? are u for real?. Pls tell me u r joking …PLSSS I NEED TO HEAR U SAY THAT!. To each is own i guess…..

    • Jen April 13, 2009 at 4:17 AM

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL @ Tomi…..for a min there, i could almost picture the expression on ur face as u typed those words, toooo funny!. Michelle’s fashion review def left me SPEECHLESS (and not in a good way at all).

    • theybf April 13, 2009 at 5:08 AM

LOLLLLL… It’s RAZZ to think boots are razz in Nigeria… Very razz in fact!

    • Hhhhm April 13, 2009 at 11:12 AM

Pray tell, what boots would work in Nigeria? Are you kidding? The whole boots issue is not just about the weather it’s also about the fashion spirit of the place. Wearing boots in really tropical locations is just RAZZ end of! Nigeria, Ghana, Belize… So please educate us, when would it be ok to wear boots in Nigeria? and what type of boots?

      We’re waiting…

    • Gbo Gbo Bigz Girls April 13, 2009 at 1:04 PM

Hmh…you wear designer, they call you and it fake, insecure, out of touch with priorities and realities. When you buy knock off because it is cute and you can’t afford the real deal they say you are a wanna be social climber. When you stick to Forever 21, H&M and Primarck that your honest and hard earned salary can afford and still look fly and do your thang they call you out as cheap, broke ass, with no class or right to feel among. NA WA OH!! I understand some people have ‘issues’ they need to deal with but for the most part some of these opinions are just wrong and unfair on all levels. How pesin go do to get some appreciation instead of hateration. By the way how does it affect anyone what these women do with their money, husband’s money or father’s money. As Eldee put it, “Why you dey vex? Is it your money?” Abeg FREE MATTA….all the ladies look good fake sturvs or not, leggings or trouser, ballet shoes or bathroom slippers. Re-brand your commenting abeg….

    • honey April 13, 2009 at 1:24 PM

hmmn, I was about to leave a comment about a fake bag and read your’s. I agree with you, it really is none of my or anybody’s business.

    • Yafa April 13, 2009 at 2:14 PM

A bit late but my best dressed are (from top to bottom)…

2nd set of pics…the 1st lady with the lace bibbed top and skinnies…bcos the look is frivolous and she has the body to rock skinnies.

5th set of pics…the 3rd lady in the yellow ensemble…bcos it’s flattering and I like her use of accessories the whole look is understated and classy…minus the cleavage!

6th set of pics…the third lady in the white dress…just lovely and very Joy Bryant-esque.

Lastly, I like the guy in the pink and white combo…it’s well fitted and fresh!

    • Jen April 13, 2009 at 2:18 PM

theybf….. is dat right???, u must be an offender too.. U HAVE GATSSSS TO BE!. So if ur friends never told u it was NOT right, me i am not ur friend and i will tell u ohh. Don’t try it!, its not a cute look for anyone in Naija. Although i am curious as to why u think its ok……

    • michelle April 13, 2009 at 7:11 PM

Na wa for some people! Using the relative anonymity of the internet to pursue personal agendas and so what if people are wearing fake designer things, e consain you? And if I— is selling good fakes in her toilet in Hampstead nko, how does that affect the price of garri in the market? Abeg people focus on yourselves, stop trying to “expose” people, it’s not a paying job.

I’m adding “e-thugging” to my list of “

No blinding of eyes with their too bright clothes, no multicolor with their skin due to bleaching, and no hideous wigs, wow, I’m impressed. Nigerian women are definitely stepping up with their fashion, and I applaud them for it, keep it up. Designer or second hand(okrika), cheap or expensive, wear whatever you can afford, because at the end of the day, it is how you wear it, how it compliments your body, and saving your money instead of buying designer clothes to impress or to compete, and still looking good in whatever you have on is all that matters.

I agree with u my namesake(lol)..The 1st is dat, what makes dem think its fake? i must point out to people, most of these valued and high-class brand like Gucci, armani, prada, laura biagiotti and the likes have high-end factories in Asia(esp china, phillipines e.t.c)also in south america (peru e.t.c)..I must tell you, even apple inc, dell and the likes have factories in china..Just take up an iphone and check the patent at the back..it reads “Designed in USA and manufactured in china”,dell simply says “manufactured and packaged in china”..This is due to cheap labour in Asia generally,to let these peopl that dont know stuffs and just talk rubbish know how it is..I presently reside in malaysia and i’ve been to china and the likes and i’ve come across people who work in few of these factories. Finally do you know how much labour would cost if these designers produce their lot in their respective countries?I’m not saying they donot produce in their respective countries but come to think of it,even IT is done same way.A company would prefer to go to india to get a world class software custom-built rather than get it done in any advanced country,A software that an IT personnel would develop for $1000 for example would be developed as low as $100 from Phillipies or India with even better functionalities..come to talk of it..IS IT UR MONEY wot anyone does wit their money…anywayz, gbogbo bigs girls,i like ur way..holla back
