It’s your regular dose of the BN feature; My Style! If you are interested in appearing on this page, simply send two pictures of yourself or that of a friend depicting a typical Day and Night Look with a short summary of your style to my mail box: ijeoma.ndekwu@bellanaija.com
When your entry is approved, you will be required to send in more pictures and personal commentaries on your style or that of your friend as the case may be! Thanks to those who have participated so far, keep the mails coming.
Let’s remember that this feature is about appreciating an individual’s expression through clothing!
BN reader Sophia Egbelo doesn’t “dress to impress”, she says: “I dress to express”, that is, I dress according to how I feel and the way I wish to express myself. The biggest misconception I get from friends pertaining to my style is that I don’t wear heels, which is not the case because when it comes to foot wardrobe even though the amount of sneakers I’ve got out weigh the number of heels in my shoe rack, I wear heels when the occasion calls for them. You could say my style looks cheap and scruffy but that’s how I want it to be. I don’t make any apologies for what I wear. I don’t try hard either.”
SOPHIA’S STYLE:
I like to describe my style as clean grunge, some what rocker-ish and not anything close to being “glam”. Occasionally I try to throw on glittery accessories to make my style “girly” for a change. I like to refer to my style as “in your face” because it almost has a certain shock appeal to it and is not meant to be attractive but stylish at first glance.
WHY DO YOU LOVE YOUR STYLE:
I love my style because my outfits tend to work out perfectly regardless of how I pair them up (Or so I think). My style expresses who I am without me having to explain who I am or the genre of music I listen to, as well as the scene I’m involved in. I love my style because it’s random and nothing is really planned to fit.
HOW IT EXPRESSES SOPHIA’S PERSONALITY:
Over the years the rock scene has become a major part in my life. My style and appearance for the most part fits into the scene with clothes that look distress, and worn, paired with chunky faded jewelry to add an edge to my look.

I wouldn’t say my personality is wicked, or renegade as the “rock music” is typically portrayed but my style expresses the “edginess” (for lack of a better word) that I bear and my uniqueness to identify with the punk and metal music scene.
HAIR:
A lot of times I wear my natural hair, which has a perm in it. I usually wash and roll it up to kind of “girly” look with the curls. When the curls straighten out, I flatten it out into a bob because my hair is mid length. By the middle of the week, my hair is tied up in a pony tail with side bangs to my face. Since I rarely fix my hair or wear corn rows, I’d say a typical hair style would be curls, or pin straight bob with bangs. Bangs are definitely a do for me even I when my hair is fixed.

MAKE-UP:
Make up is pretty much basic for me. During the day I wear dark eye liner and mascara to define my eyes. And at night I go with the same procedure but may opt to wear a lip color usually light pink. I don’t use foundation, and rarely use eye shadow, or blush just because the process of applying makeup could be sometimes daunting.

NIGHT LOOK:
My night appearance varies depending on where I’m heading too. The social scene varies for me, and a lot of times I’m in between the moshpits, clubs, art showings or various events. When I’m in the moshpits (rock concerts) I wear black destroyed denim and worn converse sneakers. I accessorize with studded belts, my choker and always a “kutte”. The “Kutte” is the one cloth I’ve had for a very long time. It is a vest, often denim material, sometimes leather that has numerous band patches, logos and pins representing the genre of rock you affiliate with and the band you like. My kutte has logos of punk bands I listen to; in addition it’s extremely worn to add an edge to my personality. Outside the moshpit, I do a combo of dresses and shorts, nothing elaborate or over the top because I opt for comfort and sometimes wearing clothes that don’t allow you to move freely gets in the way of dancing in the club.

Nice, the pictures look very professional too.
I really like her individuality and confidence. She does have a very good sense of what she likes, and even if I don’t like it personally, I have to respect that. And she’s a beautiful girl. Kudos to you, Sophia!
Beautiful, daring and different. It takes a totally confident lady to dare to be different, me like. Go girl, you ROCK!!!!!!!!!
