Arise Africa Fashion Week: Mustafa Hassanali

Tanzanian designer, Mustafa Hassanali’s collection can be described as tropical candy! The vibrant colours combined with soft sheer floaty fabrics, capture the allure of a fine summer’s day and an enchanting summer’s evening!

His garments emphasise on the hands and shoulders of a lady as most garments are either sleeveless or asymmetric sleeves. The dresses although quite lose, manage to sit quite well on the body, by creating an enchanting illusion and silhouette in their flow. A very interesting aspect of his designs is how he underlines the sheers fabrics with the African fabrics with the sash belts cutting across the waist, to give definition to the designs.

His floor length dresses are absolutely divine, they cut across the runway and you are completely left in awe of the beauty of his artistic expression.

Certainly very wearable. Love that he picked fluid fabric. The designs look like they would fit women of different shapes and sizes.

yea i have to agree with Bola. Personally I feel the umbrella is a “borrowed element of culture” from the Eastern world, but if done/matched appropriately with African attire, can look amazin.

My favs are the first and the orange ruffled dress! they are all so wearable. The matching ankara umbrella works for the runway but pleeeaassse DO NOT attempt in public. Ankara fabrics/clothes already have a lot going on on them.

Beautiful, Beautiful outfits!

I am surprised Sugabelly abi na Badbelle with her foul mouth hasn’t descended on the designer for using an asian model. Maybe she’s dead. I better check her blog.
