Arise Africa Fashion Week: Helen Asrat
Posted on Tuesday, June 16th, 2009 at 8:07 pmBy Ijeoma Ndekwu
Ethiopian designer, Helen Asrat’s collection consisted of a lot of black dresses and cobalt blue ones in sheer, tulle, satin and lace fabrics. The dresses are intricately detailed, with pleats, feathers, ruching and cuts! From layered tier short dresses to floor length skirts, her designs sought to give a definition to the waist. Like we have seen with a few designers, she features belted blazers and empire dresses.
The neckline was a focus point for her with this collection. She features asymmetric sleeves, dramatic lapels covered with flower applique. She too, captures the spirit of the 80’s with harem pants, and voluminous skirts. The dresses in this collection are amazing, hopefully they will grace the red carpets soon enough!
