Ankara served Haute by Vlisco

These days we have become accustomed to seeing all the pretty and trendy ankara pieces from the likes of Jewel by Lisa, Christie Brown & Tae.
Thought it would be a good jolt to see ankara in Haute Couture. Adventurous and Bold pieces not for the faint-hearted!
Photos are courtesy the Vlisco Europe International Design Competition which was held some months ago.

served haute sa!!
interesting…
The first picture is a tacky nightmare. The rest are fine.
wow. some pieces are so avant garde! iLove.
wonderful designs and designers.
big ups to nigeria!!!
im not trying to sound racist but why is it when there are african fashion shows half the models would be white. or when its a white fashion show there maybe be 1, 2, or no black/african models at all?
why is it that we are quick to put white models in fashion shows but the audience we are selling to are predominantly africans/blacks? we want to see what the clothes will look like on us or our body type.
or does anyone else have a different look on this.
i dont want to get wahala for just trying to say something because people on here love to start trouble. lol
peace!!
wow africa is doing good!!! these designs are wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cool down, this was the Europe Design competition sponsored by Vlisco, a Dutch company in Europe, of course there’ll be white models. It’s not an african show, neither is ankara an african fabric, we don’t call it hollndais for nothing.
dont tell me to cool down. im not over heated.
lol
well now i know, thanks.
sometimes i dont really read the things at the top. lol
ciao!
Amaka COOL DOWN!!!lol….me i just dey find trouble o!!!
Sorry corrections-
Vlisco is a European company whose dominant market is africa
Your ‘root’ ankara fabric is designed by ALL WHITE designers
Buying ankara (vlisco) is not necessarily supporting africa – money goes
back to the colonial masters!
We should start buying MADE IN NIGERIA ankara or at best, why can vlisco
not start a plant in west africa, after all labour’ll be cheaper!
We call it ‘ankara’ but it is not indigenous to w/africa, though we are now the
major importer.
Once again, the white man pulls the strings, the black puppets dance.
Why do we need them to wear our ankara/designs, before we say it’s hip?!!
e.g Fergie, etc
OK. Thanks! There’s my rant for the day…….
iLove Vlisco…….i’d love 2 work witchu guys……model 4 yhuu aii ltr
