Akpos Okudu presents Whimsical Dreams

Promising young Nigerian designer Akpos Okudu has released the lookbook for her latest collection christened Whimsical Dreams. For this collection, Akpos used a plethora of bright colours with touches of frills, bows and lace. Paying homage to her heritage, she decided to name the pieces after strong Ijaw women including ‘Oviri’, her grandmum who according to Akpos, ‘passed on her sewing skills to me’. We are loving so many of the pieces! Akpos Okudu is definitely a bright design talent to watch! You can check out her entire lookbook on her blog – www.ijawgirl.blogspot.com

im not feeling it too much and the pics dont really make much sense.
    anyway they tried sha.

Does fashion photography have to “make sense”? Who knows.

Some of my favourite fashion shoots are quite abstract but they give me a strong sense of the mood, which I think has been achieved here. I can tell that her vibe is feminine and whimsical for real “girly girls”. Its not cutting edge or fashion forward but not every designer can or wants to be at fashions knife-edge.

I see pretty clothes for pretty girls. Well done!

for me i will like to see something more creative , these days every naija fashion seems to be the same style from tiffany .a to u know it . arrest my case

  • Ladi September 22, 2009 at 5:34 pm

Here we go again!!!! Amaka,do u ever learn girl???? ok i know its ur opinion and ur free to express it but darling freedom of expression is not a licence to speak unintelligently ok….look in ur vogue, elle, marie claire, glamour etc (that of course is if u know what those are) and show me one picture that makes sense, the abstract detail of the photo is enable u see things (the clothes esp) from a different perspective but not to worry my dear i understand ur inability to relate cos u like most nigerians only see things in a particular way.

    Nontheless much love…xxx

    Note to Bella Naija

I understand your looking for content to fill your blog but this feature is just abysmal, just a click away is a feature on a good African designer, so please more of that, less of this

    Thanks

am with you amaka and CHI chi…too predictable…..arrest us!!!!

  • luvlife September 23, 2009 at 5:59 pm

I think the reason a number of people are not “feeling” the clothes has to do with the picture quality. We’ve become accustomed to studio photoshopped pictures and the perfection in quality that the grainy appearance of these pictures makes it difficult to appreciate the creativity of the designer. For the designer, keep doing what you’re doing, you can only get better with criticism. You may want to improve the quality of the pictures to “help” your target audience appreciate your work…….

I do a bit of art direction for photo shoots and I think the girls did a great job here. Not great photos but the clothes are really great. If I was a lady, I’d buy. Critics, keep off! Akpos is the next big thing

wow Jen you sound like the bitter one…Just because people do not like the pictures or the clothes doesnt mean they are haters…its all about preference and since the pictures are on a public website people will state their opinions..abi do you go into a store and like everything they sell?

personally, i like the clothes because they are very weareable!!

NOW i know that some bella naija vultures are really on the look out for thier next “prey” or next slice of drama.
    i mean come on!!
michelle and chi made a very good point.
it does seem like all these new and “great” designers are boring and the same old thing.
im not feelin the pics and im not feelin the clothes.
its not like i flat out said “THIS SUCKS. ITS UGLY.” did i say that? no.
    i said they tried sha.
what is wrong with that? so im hating now abi? cause i dont like everything that Bella posts or any designer makes?
sha. you seem to be the only bitter one here.
    take a hike.

  • THE AMAKA September 27, 2009 at 9:11 am

    oh shush.
i havent been active on this site in the past month. i was actually getting bored with it.
but i decided to then start commenting again.
there are plenty of posts where i left good comments, but once again, people just always wanna talk about the comments they didnt exactly like.
and please tell me what wedding post?
    WHICH ONE?

  • Vikkie E. February 16, 2010 at 9:30 am

wondaful wondaful fabrics, i lov whimsical, “its got dis touch of play, wit somuch drama, yet adds class, givin ‘t just d style dat i lyk” plus – i lov d office-girl lyk drama, dat cream gown wit d tiny-strap belt realy playd d concept sowell. dis’s al gud cuts “but a litle 2 streamed-lined wit d same ‘ulta-neck, mono-strap thing” lets see som small sleeve gal, playin d same concept of elegance, u’re gud 2 d detail. big kiss.

  • Vikkie E. February 16, 2010 at 9:43 am

i kinda feel d clothes, not pix, thgh som’f d models wer tyte, basicly i tink d clothes re very wearable 4 pple dat’ll go wit d bold-fashion tin.
Al ‘em open-back stuff, its very summer, gud 4d weather, bt nt evry woman can reveal somch. personal opinion, i lyk’t casual jst d way d gals played ‘t, ‘t ws fun&funky, bt considerin d fact dat nt evry woman play d bold fashion stuff, i wld prfer if ‘t were toned dwn, jst a bit wit smal cut jacket on d gown, lyk 4 office pple, tk 4 instance “casual fridays wit a touch of class” dat’ll b d bommmb……….. u’re far off it Amaka.
