pray tell Ladi, what you would call a coffeemaker in Yoruba or even in English?! Rather than ‘chef’, you’d be more comfortable with ‘olopo’. We live in a borderless world and our influences are global. You could have mentioned Phunk Afrique or even the label named after the African Zebra; but that would expose how selective your criticism is!

bambuddha?
Machu Picchu?
trained baristas? hahahaha

What’s with Nigerians? Must the names must be funky english, italian, french? Even Asian words are now cool. (piccolo, la saison, le petit marche, portobello when there is yaba market) I love the business part, the namings just irk me. Colonialists really sucked out stuff from our brains, who in Europe names their shop ‘Oluwachukwufunmilayoasabe?’

Anyway, anything foreign sells so I’ll open my shop with a Cherokee, native american word.

Na wa for me, I just digressed from the post.

Why? Because Oluwachukwufunmilayoasabe is stupid. Why do some people have to be cultural Nazis. Colonialism kini. Na you know o. Mrs. History. In case you forgot, it is 2009.

You just won the award for the most uncalled for comment on bella naija ‘cultural Nazis’. Gezz, ‘ladi’ gave his/her comment which he/she is entitled to and then you pounce like a hater now who looks more like your comment???

Laba Labasa, I would gladly name whatever enterprise I venture into WAZOBIA, Oluwachukwufunmilayoasabe or whatever random moniker I come up with as long as it is “original.” Abi Nigerians area all about being “original” when it comes to fashion and clothes, but name to name your business, we’ll be hearing “West End couture.” Have you ever wondered that maybe part of the popularity of Bella Naija, is the uniqueness of the name? I mean it’s not igbo, yoruba or hausa, but it’s defn Naija!!!

In the words of a particular Nigerian hip hop crooner…”LET’S GO THERE!”
