Will An African Queen Win the Crown? Meet Africa’s Beauties at Miss World 2009

The Miss World beauty pageant, one of the oldest and most prestigious beauty pageants. Since 1959, a queen has been crowned by the Miss World organization to promote various causes and carry out charity work. Many famous women including India’s Aishwarya Rai and Nigeria’s Agbani Darego have won the crown.
This year, the pageant is being held in South Africa for the 7th time since the pageant’s inception.
Africa is being represented by 18 beautiful ‘queens’ from across the continent.
The Miss World crown has been won by only 3 Africans in the past. Penelope Anne Coelen of South Africa in 1958, Anneline Kriel of South Africa in 1974 (the original Miss World 1974 resigned so Anneline took her place) and of course, Agbani Darego of Nigeria in 2001.
However, its significant to note that the 2 South African wins were during aparthied and Agbani is the only black African to ever win the Miss World title.
Back to the present, which of thee girls have the potential to win the Miss World 2009 crown?
The finale will be held on Saturday 12th December 2009 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Photos are from the Miss World 2009 ‘World Designer’ Special Award mini show. It featured all the 118 contestants of Miss World 2009 and was won by Miss Sierra Leone!

The Kenyan representative looks so beautiful I wish I could see her face clearly. As far as having the potential to win the crown, that will depend on how they respond to the questions asked, how they carry themselves on stage etc. These days it’s not about physical beauty alone, n’est pas?
nigERia…….KAi!….whyy noww??
Nigeria’s Glory Chukwu is also pretty, I’m not sure about that dress though. The color aesthetic isn’t working for me
Minus all the Gosh awful dresses these ladies are actually very very beautiful…. Nigeria?????? Not to dump on the girl picked but I see hotter chics at Ikeja market than this lady!!!
i love miss Tanzania’s dress!!!Angola, Ghana and Kenya are hot!!!!
i love miss Tanzania’s dress!!!Angola, Ghana and Kenya look nice
I like miss Tanzania, she’s cute! But all of them are really beautiful o
Angola is the Prettiest
men all the dresses are lovely except namibia(yellow dress)
hhmmmn @ Ms Naija..
Ms tanzania is soooooooo cute…
i thot they did the pageant a while ago

Lovely gowns and beautiful ladies, like Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast the best.
Miss Kenya is toooo beautiful!!!!!!! perfect teeth.
sierra leone’s dress is wow.
ghana is pretty.
nigeria— sorry, can’t compare
its a pity nigeria will not take this years crown , she looks average gosh there are several beautiful girls out there and they chose this to represent ? haba! for me the most beautiful african queen is angola the lady in red .
It’ll be nice to see one of the African queens win this- its been a while since Agbani.
Miss Sierra Leone’s gown is quite creative. Miss Ghana’s and Ms. Tanzania are also nice
Maybe they’ll win when they stop allowing the non-African contestants to have an advantage over them – REAL hair.
Miss Ghana’s dress is a piece of art….luv the bodice…rily nyc…
Ms South Africa…wetyn u put for ur belle region so?.its sticking out funny..
Ms Naija…I’m sorry, but u dont stand a chance!!!!…
I want Ms Ethiopia’s hair
i really dont know how this MS Nigeria won…She is a very ok looking girl o but she is not pageant material…Modeling yes..but not pageant sturvs
haba relax now…she is a living thing you know..how can you refer to her as this?
Ghana is the best out of them all.
I doubt any of these African beauties have a chance this time. When Agbani Darego won, and the pageant was suppose to take place in Nigeria, but was stopped because of some riot, that will be taken into consideration. Miss Ghana(she’s gorgeous) Miss Ethiopia(she’s cute, hopefully she speaks good English), and Miss Namibia is also cute as well. Miss Sierra leone’s outfit is just too fierce. Mehn, Miss Uganda looks like she’s ready to punch someone in the face, if they don’t give her the crown. I’m sorry, Miss Zambia looks like a tranny. Miss Liberia should have done two things before hitting the runway, use the toilet, and what the heck is she wearing, and change the rags she has on.
ghana, ethiopia and of course serria leone have the most creative and indigenous styles
If I should say I word here I will say Miss Sierra Leone will win the hold crown why she did some thing that know one seen this miss world started fire is not easy to put on our mount it will hot us buut she did it wow ooh let them give her it will also bring peace in the part of the country through this crown let give her she is thebest this year 2009 she is just lucky

miss Angola, Kenya, Swaziland and namibia loog good an d I love miss Ghana’s gown–gorgeous.
Apart from miss Egypt, the other ladies have …. noses.
i felt the same way about MS NAIJA too….abeg how did she enter the paegent?
I think miss sierra leone is going 2 win or at least make it in2 the top three coz she has won like two preliminary events already……..
Miss Naija is okay it’s just this pics doesn’t do her justice! And her outfit??? Mba oh! Miss Sierra Leons outfit is really SLAMMING… She desrves this win
i also love the fat that many of the conteestants used african fabrics. i hate it when they use normal european fabrics as it does not show of the continents best designs or their culture.
I like the first two, Miss Angola and Miss Botswana (Miss Angola, needs more workout on her legs to tighten them, they look dimpled). Miss Kenya is a true African dark beauty, look at those white shiny teeth, a little protruding, but spotless and remarkable all the same! She has the forehead of Sasha, President Obama’s first daughter.
Miss Swaziland is a natural; I can see she is not into the weave-on foolishness. Miss 9ja, girl, you look elegant but not pretty, I know we have better looking babes in the East, did Naija peeps properly search in the East and Delta region that have lots of girls that are prettier? Well, I guess opportunity knocked her door first, best wishes to her.
Miss Liberia and Miss Zambia need more training on grace and posture. Miss Ghana, nice dress; Miss Zimbabwe too much bling bling keep it simple; Miss Ethiopia looks like she doesn’t wanna there.
They are all beautiful ….
They all look beautiful. But those who stand out to me are Ghana, Namibia, Angola, Kenya & Ethiopia. Nigeria is beautiful too but that dress looks too plain on her.
miss zimbabwe’s outfit is hideous, too over the top, cheap and local, hair and make up inclusive. miss zambia’s outfit makes no sense. miss tanzania is cute but im not feeling the dress. miss nigeria is a shame! and i blame her nigerian guardians, her hair looks like its 4 weeks old, her dress does no justice to her figure, everything about her is just wrong. mama mia! i love miss angola…, was miss bostwana’s dress made from scrap metal?, love miss ghana’s dress, love miss mauritius’ dress and figure
Miss Nigeria looks toooooooooooooo regular
Miss Nigerian looks like a regular naija babe jo!
ah ah, her hair does not look 4 weeks old. I think it should have been a lot more realistic though. These judges know that’s not her real hair, so of course their assessment of her (and others with fake hair) will be skewed. I do think that she is a pretty girl. She appears to have little make up on but her face remains naturally pretty. Bottom line you guys who have liver should compete for MBGN. The Beautiful ones don’t compete abi?
Miss Nigeria, Miss Tanzania and Miss Ghana just look like everyday, regular gals, i think Miss S.A would go far. But, seriously we have more beautiful girls in Africa, most of them are not “beauty queens”.
Na lie and you know it lol.
All them ladies ‘r super fabolous africa got beauty I luv the dress on miss Libeia she looks goegeous
Wow!! Gorgeous ladies am luvin ya all and most especially the dress of miss Ghana, Liberia, and botswana Miss Liberia u looks gr8
I love Miss Liberia
I m told that i look like Miss Liberia but a darker version which i was very upset at because i thought she was the less attractive of them all. Ain’t that a shame! Lolllllllll
I believe you ar jealous so on behave of Miss Liberia i take that as a compliment.
