Posted on Friday, February 5th, 2010 at 8:43 amBy Bella
This song was recorded for the “Microsoft Internet Safety, Security and Privacy Initiative for Nigeria” (MISSPIN) initiative which seeks to to re-direct the energies of participants of cybercrime to positive use.
The song features Cobhams, Omawumi, Modele, Banky W, Bez, Rooftop MCs, Wordsmith and MI.
Definitely a great video for a worthwhile cause!
“The rehabilitation program will allow twenty-five (25) young people who have been involved in cybercrime activities to benefit from training (life skills, employability skills, I.T., etc), mentorship and paid internships. They will serve as role models for other youth who have been wondering about their future beyond online criminal involvements. The musical collaboration project, which is led by one of the campaign ambassadors, Ohimai Amaeze, enjoys the benefit of having Cobhams Asuquo as producer, and an impressive line-up of artistes who have volunteered to support the MISSPIN project: Banky W, MI, Modele, Omawumi and Rooftop MCs! The song will be released in February 2010, alongside a sticker campaign that will present messages that will resonate with the population that will best benefit from this campaign. One of the stickers will announce, “Maga no need pay, I go hard for ma dough!“.

nice song, good concept. good attempt to clean our image, bt i hv a few criticisms…
you people ruined the message and credibility of the song by putting Dele Momodu, c’mon! the man wines and dines and celebrates with the very people that have made many young men and women turn to cybercrime.
i don’t think banky’s scene was relevant to the theme of the song, i mean most young men want to make money to get women, bt is dat all there is to it? how about putting him in a suit or sometin and portraying him as a professional or smtin similar?
and while you’re at it, please tell your fellow musicians like kelly hansome & olu maintain to stop singing songs that celebrate yahoo-yahoo.
also, most of this yahoo boys won’t understand the ‘funeh’ u people are blowing in this song, u shld hv injected a bit of vernacular in it to mk it more acceptable to ur targets…
finally, some1 shld put out a song to adress the looting and corruption of our leaders(i bet we wn’t see Bob dee in it), cos unless tackle the key issues adressin us and the root cause of cybercrime, we’ll all be wasting our time…
While does that have lived a life of poverty and struggle are better able to identify with the issues that many people are facing in Nigeria today it does not mean that others cannot join in finding a solution. Regardless of what many have said in their comments about those that have put together the video, the truth remains that they are doing something about a problem that we as a people cannot deny exists. The government has failed us too many times so let us commend their efforts and joining making a difference.
BTW – Did anyone read the paragraph about the rehabilitation program the video was made for? It wll provide life skills and employment opportunities for young people that might not have otherwise had the opportunity. Let’s give credit to whom it is due people!
nice one nikki! we as nigerians should learn to appreciate something good when we see one…. it is so not nice to always look for a fault in something….we shd learn to stop it, it’s a very bad habit..
i don’t understand why some people cannot get rid of the hardship mentality, we adopted in Nigeria and just move forward. How do you know Banky and M.I have not gone thru hardships, or you think there’s no poverty in yankee, go to detroit, in d hoods, u’ll fear for your lives.u’ll be surprised in a country as developed like USA, the number of people living below poverty limit. Banky in particular worked in McDonalds, survived cancer as a young dude, im not trying to say he’s a hero, just using him as an example cos some people just think when you live in yankee, you are living the dream life. pls how many naija guys will swallow their prides to work in mr.Biggs to make a living, or hawk pure water and plantain just to go to school. Many of these yahoo yahoo guys, even after making the money lavish it on irrelevant causes, so pls whats the point??????Just cos people moved back from yankee doesnt mean that they didnt struggle like 9ice. So pls people should get rid of blaming and criticisms, we need to be problem-solvers. i admire the youths that struggle to make a living, refusing to ruin the image of Nigeria, you will reap the good you sow. For those of you that believe in defrauding people, i won’t condemn you, but there’s also a reward for you. My message is rise up from where you are, with the little in your hand, and make a success story from your circumstance!
hmm,……lol @ all d comments…it’s true anyways dt artistes dt have seen the other side of life, shd have been used..
but all the same, the song does still make sense…
+ i luv d video if not for anything, but for the fact that banky w, my one and only luv is in it
I think the video is very good and passes a good message. From what I hear (http://lindaikeji.blogspot.com/2010/02/maga-no-need-pay.html#) the artistes were not PICKED but VOLUNTEERED so those who keep on writing that they should have chosen other artistes, ask yourselves why those artistes did not volunteer. Also do not judge a book by its cover, I cannot speak for Banky W but I can speak for Bez and matching him with a rich ‘don’t care’ kid personality is not right, he is so much more than that. Lastly, for whoever talked about Omawumi on WAI, that does not mean anything, what about her background before that? I don’t know much about her but she could very well be equipped by experience to sing the song. All in all I think it is a very good effort and I absolutely love the song and its message.
The truth should always be embraced regardless of who preaches the message. At least some people are making efforts while others like Elle W and Mayowa will always complain but do nothing about the situation.
Some of these comments just dey turn my belly. So as Country no good, e now justify a life of crime. Some of us suppose go collect perspective Abeg. All those wey say Maga good, I hope say una no go mind when armed robbers visit your houses for night because of bad economy. Granted Naija Politicians dey useless, but that no be reason for an able bodied young man or woman to resort to a life of crime.
Nice song!
Who is the clown in the geek glasses? He looks like the result of steve urkel stumbling through Topman. I think the song and the message are
okay but it’s also kinda patronizing. The really poor people in Naija didn’t have the same opporutnities as people like Banky W ( Hard work isn’t enough). They should have gotten more relatable artists to participate ( Konga and co.). And Bob Dee..? Don’t get me started!
dele momodu looks so funny with his attempts at clapping, he’s clapping is not even rhyming with that of others. generation gap i guess
Hehehehe! I was just about to post the same
Old papa youngie!

Looking like a stuffed turkey wearing agbada and a cap and let loose in the studio—

RESPECT FOR WHO?
DELE MOMODU?
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING YOURSELF,LET ALONE ME.
MR MOMODU LOST ALL RESPECT THE MOMENT HE DECIDED TO WINE AND DINE WITH THOSE WHO PUT THIS COUNTRY IN THE STATE THAT IT IS IN…MAKING OUR CHILDREN RESORT TO QUESTIONABLE THINGS TO MEET UP TO THE SAME STANDARDS OF THE THIEVES HE CELEBRATES.
HE IS NOW COMING ON THIS KIND OF VIDEO…DANCING TO MAGA NO NEED PAY–
