Cobhams, Omawumi, Modele, Banky W, Bez, Rooftop MCs, Wordsmith and MI - Maga No Need PayBrand new video shot by Kemi Adetiba for the song “Maga No Need Pay“.
This song was recorded for the “Microsoft Internet Safety, Security and Privacy Initiative for Nigeria” (MISSPIN) initiative which seeks to to re-direct the energies of participants of cybercrime to positive use.
The song features Cobhams, Omawumi, Modele, Banky W, Bez, Rooftop MCs, Wordsmith and MI.
Definitely a great video for a worthwhile cause!

“The rehabilitation program will allow twenty-five (25) young people who have been involved in cybercrime activities to benefit from training (life skills, employability skills, I.T., etc), mentorship and paid internships. They will serve as role models for other youth who have been wondering about their future beyond online criminal involvements. The musical collaboration project, which is led by one of the campaign ambassadors, Ohimai Amaeze, enjoys the benefit of having Cobhams Asuquo as producer, and an impressive line-up of artistes who have volunteered to support the MISSPIN project: Banky W, MI, Modele, Omawumi and Rooftop MCs! The song will be released in February 2010, alongside a sticker campaign that will present messages that will resonate with the population that will best benefit from this campaign. One of the stickers will announce, “Maga no need pay, I go hard for ma dough!“.

Mister Boy wearing the nerd glasses and hat–
Honey i love your bit in this video..BUT nerdy glasses AIN’T your friend…you have very prominent features that should be softened up–you be fine boy…but the igo loju omo odaran look ain’t for you..

What was MISTER AKPO SEMOVITA A.KA.Uncle Dele Momodu doing in the video?
      did i miss something?
Bros you no get swagga jo..go siddon somewhere dey collate picture for your album, dey jaw jaw with the looters of our nation while expanding your never ending waistline..KILODE..must you be evrywhere…

Would have loved if the video ended with like a montage(?) of various YOUNG Successful and FABULOUS naija people..AND not just Fela Durotoye..Just to send out a message that If THEY can do it,ANYONE else can.
And i am not talking awon omo mummy and daddy who have not had to push half as hard as the average naija child o..
Fela fits it as the bobo is self made and he pushed himself to where he is…he has come far.

      anyway enough of my story..
      KEMI ADETIBA–GOOD JOB…

    • KK February 6, 2010 at 2:29 AM

My maga no need pay but Dele Momodu own maga still dey pay?
      Is that not selective justice?
How can you use a scam artist to preach the ills of scam?
This video has no integrity whatsoever.

    • ojaybaby February 6, 2010 at 2:47 AM

das rily good!turning something negative into something good..i mean instead of cyber crime, how does computer software engineering sound?spotless!

      wow

    • Elle W February 6, 2010 at 1:40 PM

Good concept, great vid..but seriously what do they know about being on the streets?
maga no need pay…what exactly does your sentence mean?
all of them in the song are all comfy..
      Banky-yankee citizen,emigrated from US…
MI-was in yankee for a bit b4 he moved back
      Omawunmi-great artiste…WA idols
      duno about MOdele
      Rooftop Mc errm no comment
      Bez-nigga pls..the geeky thing aint for u!
but what hardship have any of them gone through for them to be preaching to people…
i love Banky but that his scene by the pool was so irrelevant i mean..how many people can actually relate to him? if u are talking to people on the streets then use street lingo..get people like dagrin/9ice and co who have been through it all, they can reach the grassroot level..besides dele momodu that publishes the faces of those people who have stolen Nigeria’s money nko..he is here preaching HISS
ure blowing fohneh and trying to reach out to who?
i am not in support of yahooze/any fraudulent activities but dang!use people who we can relate to..if it was a yankee vid and someone like Mariah Carey who couldn’t afford shoes as a child was singing ehen that is believable…catch my drift…
the money for this video shouldve been used to fund something beneficial for the Jos crisis
Great video by Kemi Adetiba tho

    • jd February 6, 2010 at 7:58 PM

hisssssssssssssss. Nija and their jacked up sense. if maga does not pay who will?
Those musicians should channel their energy into a song called ”politicians no need thief our country money”.
if the govt does not provide jobs for these guys or even some token amount every month in d form of benefits how are they supposed to survive. But i guess d readers of bella do not understand, with most of d pple who frequent this page being from d ruling class and having neva tasted poverty and whose parents are politicians they prolly dnt send.
The final credibility killer of this song is dele momodu, hisssssss, a friend of a thief is …………………..
his ovation magazine does nothing but rub into d noses of pple how govt money is spent, which in turn means there is no discerniblle growth in d country, which means there are no jobs which means no matter how many of these songs they make if the root problem is not solved, which is politricksians doing d right thing then MAGA WILL CONTINUE TO PAY.

      WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • forreallzzzz February 7, 2010 at 10:28 AM

      True talk, true talk!
You speak the truth my brother (or sister)…however, I think the song and message is a step in the right direction.
The act of cleaning up corruption – 419, white collar crime AND political looting – do not have to be mutually exclusive…..We should address all of these issues killing our country.

The message behind this song also sends a positive message to the rest of the world that we do not condone cybercrime…..unlike previous messages proposed in other Naija songs like Yahoozee and Maga don pay.

    • obi February 7, 2010 at 3:41 PM

Who is the clown in the geek glasses? He looks like the result of steve urkel stumbling through Topman. I think the song and the message are
okay but it’s also kinda patronizing. The really poor people in Naija didn’t have the same opporutnities as people like Banky W ( Hard work isn’t enough). They should have gotten more relatable artists to participate ( Konga and co.). And Bob Dee..? Don’t get me started!

    • mayowa February 7, 2010 at 7:24 PM

OMG!!! you comment is so perfect…must of all they guys were brought up with silver spoon..they don’t know even 1/4 of what some people have to go through to have just a meal a day…they should have definately use dagrin and 9ice…those two have experience the life of a typical average Nigeria….

    • Jen February 7, 2010 at 9:09 PM

What does Bez’s geeky look have to do with the content of the song?

    • info February 7, 2010 at 9:14 PM

Na wa oh, this internet has really altered the definition of Nigerian respect…. Stuffed turkey wearing agbada and cap? What do our fathers look like again?

    • Enyinna February 8, 2010 at 12:18 AM

Nawa for you-oh! Guys no go find better thing do. Na wayo we go now use build country. Politicians own matter worse pass, but that one no justify Maga abeg.

    • Enyinna February 8, 2010 at 12:30 AM

Some of these comments just dey turn my belly. So as Country no good, e now justify a life of crime. Some of us suppose go collect perspective Abeg. All those wey say Maga good, I hope say una no go mind when armed robbers visit your houses for night because of bad economy. Granted Naija Politicians dey useless, but that no be reason for an able bodied young man or woman to resort to a life of crime.
      Nice song!

    • addy February 8, 2010 at 1:24 AM

      RESPECT FOR WHO?
      DELE MOMODU?
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING YOURSELF,LET ALONE ME.
MR MOMODU LOST ALL RESPECT THE MOMENT HE DECIDED TO WINE AND DINE WITH THOSE WHO PUT THIS COUNTRY IN THE STATE THAT IT IS IN…MAKING OUR CHILDREN RESORT TO QUESTIONABLE THINGS TO MEET UP TO THE SAME STANDARDS OF THE THIEVES HE CELEBRATES.
HE IS NOW COMING ON THIS KIND OF VIDEO…DANCING TO MAGA NO NEED PAY–
      WHAT A DAMN JOKE

COMMENTATOR “JD” BELOW HAS SAID IT ALL..

AND “INFO” SPEAK FOR YOUR OWN DAD O..

    • anjay February 8, 2010 at 8:14 AM

The truth should always be embraced regardless of who preaches the message. At least some people are making efforts while others like Elle W and Mayowa will always complain but do nothing about the situation.

    • drifted February 8, 2010 at 8:35 AM

U mean Bez? He does’t channel Steve Urkel o…lol…He uses glasses and decided to wear these stevie lookey likey ones…Na wah for you sef.

i didnt say the song wasn’t a great song
im jus saying what impact will this song have the general public?
lets face it the yahooze boys/scammers will sing this song die and maga will still paying…

    • Oluwaseun February 8, 2010 at 6:18 PM

      i will untake him.lol

    • rike February 8, 2010 at 8:56 PM

I think the video is very good and passes a good message. From what I hear (http://lindaikeji.blogspot.com/2010/02/maga-no-need-pay.html#) the artistes were not PICKED but VOLUNTEERED so those who keep on writing that they should have chosen other artistes, ask yourselves why those artistes did not volunteer. Also do not judge a book by its cover, I cannot speak for Banky W but I can speak for Bez and matching him with a rich ‘don’t care’ kid personality is not right, he is so much more than that. Lastly, for whoever talked about Omawumi on WAI, that does not mean anything, what about her background before that? I don’t know much about her but she could very well be equipped by experience to sing the song. All in all I think it is a very good effort and I absolutely love the song and its message.

    • Nnena February 9, 2010 at 11:08 PM

      Someone is NATURALLY geeky ke?
So he was born with a hat on his head and nerdy glasses with the standard striped tee attached to his cute bum bum as a kid?

      NO..an EMPHATIC MBAAA…
He is NOT naturally like that..
He developed, copied, honed or whatever the style…

    • Ladi February 10, 2010 at 4:28 AM

Those who know him personally think he is nerdy, or I do!

Not naturally nerdy in the fashion sense but so? He sang well that’s all that matters.

    • Titi February 16, 2010 at 1:31 PM

hmm,……lol @ all d comments…it’s true anyways dt artistes dt have seen the other side of life, shd have been used..
but all the same, the song does still make sense…
+ i luv d video if not for anything, but for the fact that banky w, my one and only luv is in it

    • Nikki February 17, 2010 at 10:04 PM

i don’t understand why some people cannot get rid of the hardship mentality, we adopted in Nigeria and just move forward. How do you know Banky and M.I have not gone thru hardships, or you think there’s no poverty in yankee, go to detroit, in d hoods, u’ll fear for your lives.u’ll be surprised in a country as developed like USA, the number of people living below poverty limit. Banky in particular worked in McDonalds, survived cancer as a young dude, im not trying to say he’s a hero, just using him as an example cos some people just think when you live in yankee, you are living the dream life. pls how many naija guys will swallow their prides to work in mr.Biggs to make a living, or hawk pure water and plantain just to go to school. Many of these yahoo yahoo guys, even after making the money lavish it on irrelevant causes, so pls whats the point??????Just cos people moved back from yankee doesnt mean that they didnt struggle like 9ice. So pls people should get rid of blaming and criticisms, we need to be problem-solvers. i admire the youths that struggle to make a living, refusing to ruin the image of Nigeria, you will reap the good you sow. For those of you that believe in defrauding people, i won’t condemn you, but there’s also a reward for you. My message is rise up from where you are, with the little in your hand, and make a success story from your circumstance!

    • Titi February 18, 2010 at 8:23 AM

nice one nikki! we as nigerians should learn to appreciate something good when we see one…. it is so not nice to always look for a fault in something….we shd learn to stop it, it’s a very bad habit..

    • AJ February 25, 2010 at 10:36 PM

While does that have lived a life of poverty and struggle are better able to identify with the issues that many people are facing in Nigeria today it does not mean that others cannot join in finding a solution. Regardless of what many have said in their comments about those that have put together the video, the truth remains that they are doing something about a problem that we as a people cannot deny exists. The government has failed us too many times so let us commend their efforts and joining making a difference.

BTW – Did anyone read the paragraph about the rehabilitation program the video was made for? It wll provide life skills and employment opportunities for young people that might not have otherwise had the opportunity. Let’s give credit to whom it is due people!

    • silva March 4, 2010 at 1:33 AM

nice song, good concept. good attempt to clean our image, bt i hv a few criticisms…
you people ruined the message and credibility of the song by putting Dele Momodu, c’mon! the man wines and dines and celebrates with the very people that have made many young men and women turn to cybercrime.
i don’t think banky’s scene was relevant to the theme of the song, i mean most young men want to make money to get women, bt is dat all there is to it? how about putting him in a suit or sometin and portraying him as a professional or smtin similar?
and while you’re at it, please tell your fellow musicians like kelly hansome & olu maintain to stop singing songs that celebrate yahoo-yahoo.
also, most of this yahoo boys won’t understand the ‘funeh’ u people are blowing in this song, u shld hv injected a bit of vernacular in it to mk it more acceptable to ur targets…
finally, some1 shld put out a song to adress the looting and corruption of our leaders(i bet we wn’t see Bob dee in it), cos unless tackle the key issues adressin us and the root cause of cybercrime, we’ll all be wasting our time…
