helping hands 1Jos, Nigeria is currently being destroyed by the religious violence and unnecessary killings which have affected the living conditions as well as the safety of the people who have lost possessions, family members as well as a sense of well being.

The world was shocked by the news of the category 7 earthquake that hit the Caribbean country, Haiti ,which totally ravaged the capital port-au-prince. News of the aftermath of the quake have been even more disheartening. The latest estimate offered by the European Union citing Haitian authorities, stands at over 200,000 people dead and many earthquake victims in Haiti still dying due to the lack of medical attention, food and basic sanitary conditions. By most economic measures, Haiti is the poorest country in the Americas and one of the world’s poorest and least developed countries.

If there is any time to stretch out a helping hand to these people who hold a firm foothold in the liberation of the Black race as being the first post-colonial independent black -led nation in the world, and the only nation whose independence was gained as part of a successful rebellion, the time is now.

Here is a message from a group of young people who are working to make a difference.

We (Inner Circle) are a small informal group of young individuals who take humanitarian work serious and would want to contribute in our own little way to protect our race. To join humanitarian efforts being put together for Haiti an also Jos, we intend to organize a relief concert entitled “Helping Hands” with a proposed date of 28th February, 2010, to raise funds for the people. This is being done in conjunction with the World Health Organisation (W.H.O) who would be involved basically to serve as a medium to transfer funds to these locations.
The concert is meant to be 4 hours long, with performances from different artist from all genres of music, all proceeds from the concert would serve as relief donations to Haiti from all sponsors and attendants. Proceeds transfer to the appropriate parties in Haiti and Jos would be handled solely by the WHO.

We would therefore appreciate if you support this cause by purchasing a ticket at the cost of N10,000 (or more) as your own individual contribution and for this we would love to reward you with an evening of music and poetry.
