Clive Rundle’s designs were characterized by excess fabrics, layers of tulle and crystals, all compressed together. It was artistic expression unveiled, reminiscent of a Yinka Shonibare art installation; an order for the free flow of thoughts established, with uninhibited territories allowing us to recognise and embrace the chaos of the avant-garde nature of his elaborate pieces.
The creativeness and innovation put into this showcase is highly commendable; however I would have preferred to see wearable pieces from him to have a broader sense of the label. The pieces are undoubtedly artistically intriguing, and is best described as art in motion.

This is very creative and fabulous. However, they were asked to present a ready to wear collection. Pret a Porter, this is not!
I think this is what Nigerians call ‘abadabidi’.
i think this one failed the test… haha..like writing a composition for a multiple choice exam. i don’t think the buying public is “ready to wear” this. there is a way to show creativity AND restraint. this ain’t it.

who says you can’t wear it pret-a-porter?? Clive doesn’t design for the feint hearted. if you’ve got some attitude you need a man with his imagination and vision to make life on the street a tad more interesting, no?
why should we want to be restrained? or want our artsists and designers to conspire with us in living more “normal” lives? i say viva to anyone who can show us how to push our limits ya.
speaking of pret-a-porter, i see completely WEARABLE pieces presented at an EXHIBITION. i dont expect anyone to walk the streets looking like an exhibition (for the brave), but seeing someone wearing the shorts, or the collar, or that zip dress, or the bolero or even those stockings would be a beautiful sight. imagine World Cup Opening Ceremony song sung by a beautiful woman wearing that soccer necklace? get the picture!

This collection is amazing and an honest expression of Clive’s genius. He is courageous and pushes the limits because he is not afraid of what people say. He has a unique ability to take the extreme poles of our beautiful nation and blend them in a very unique way. His work is challenging and not for the faint hearted but the clothing in his store speaks to many – those who celebrate difference. Clive is a gem and a leading light and we are blessed to have him working in South Africa

Innovative and compelling. There is a stark, provocative and fetishistic tone to the collection that is bound to challenge its audience. Beautiful fabrics used in a myriad of unique and interesting ways; one of the hallmarks of Clives work. A frank openness and honesty lacking in many designers work as a result of a conformatist approach. Courageous and hauntingly beautiful.
Avant-garde Master from Africa!!! With Clive there’s always that element of surprise which makes you want to see more of his work. The combination of different elements is amazing. All I can say is,”The Puzzle is Solved”, by the Master.
