@Nnena, Indeed there are cases where it is done out of greed but my dear, lemme give you an example- I was in a saloon one day and I heard a girl's outburst, -What were the words :Mama you have turned me into a prostitute in Lagos; trust people now, i was told by the stylist that the girl is a student in Lagos and her parents make ridiculous demands of her, like 150k monthly( how and where do you expect her to get it from)
I digress I know but it just a example of how people can be victims. what was she to do here.
So imagine if a Madame goes to her parents imagine what they will do.
I think we should all thank GOD that we have a blessed life. We never know until we have worked in their shoes....

now am sure Nnena's mother or aunty is a trafficker, its so obvious u know how they operate so much and the strategies they device in caging their victims, av u ever experienced going hungry for many days with ur family members and no hope of getting food anywhere and and to make matters worse u av a very sick father dat can afford to buy a common analgesic, withthe landlord always in ur face for rent, and then this seeming angel from nowhere comes and ask to take u abroad to work as a maid to assist the family, an average parent with no means of knowing what is happening about trafficking will jump at it. Strangers dont do this but pple that u know and av so much trust in. Nnenna am still baffled at the depth of ur shallowness, just bcos u had the opportunity of going abroad u think life is like dat in naija? Thats how second class citizens think anyway, i shouldnt blame u.

good not everyone has fallen into this trap out of greed but desperation ,
but the thing is with the number of stories we've heard of people that
were tricked into travelling abroad and ended up prostituting , i would
have thought that people won't be so gullible now, it makes me think that just
maybe these people are very well aware of what they are getting into ,
they just dont know whats up fully and by the time they realise it ,its late ,
then they join the ever expanding choir singing the "chei had i known" chorus

Wow this Nnenna girl really sounds like she lives in her own stuck up world. Is it bad to want more than ur situation offers, if u r extrememly poor and hardly able to eat three square meals? Do you know how poor people are in Nigeria? can you blame them for wanting more?

@Pam...firstly "pop goes the weasel" AND "pop goes the whistle" are two VERY different things.
BUT since you are very good at things like this(seemingly)i wouldn't bore you with what is what.
As obviously the meaning i was trying to convey was lost somewhere in translation.
AND yes i do KNOW all about "pop goes the weasel"

Now to the main koko, how old is this girl you speak of?If you had gone through anything i'd written up there, you would notice how emphatically i state that IN MY OPINION wonmen of a certain age CANNOT be forced into anything BECAUSE they KNOW THE WAYS OF THE WORLD.

I gave an example of my hair stylist here in London, who went through hell, and prostituting at what??under 15?same situation of a madame taking her in..she had nothing and nobody...her child that caused her to be kickd out of her parents place was a product of rape--NOW if this girl continued as a hooker, and told her story,i would feel for her.Infact i would bend over backwards to make sure she got a fresh start.

BUT majority of GROWN A** WOMEN,who KNOW what they are getting into CAN and WILL never wash with me NNENA.I can NEVER have any pity for people like that, irrespective of whatever sob-story they want to spin.

I asked a simple question that what if this story was about guys getting into armed robbery etc(at last there is also ALWAYS a "market" for that ba?) Would you all be so "understanding"??
Especially when they say things like how they might have raped and killed people etc...
Heyy at least they were also caught up in unfortunate circumstances and looking for a way out no?
And how many "area fathers" who can be equated to the so called "madames" are out there waiting to pluck another misguided young adult?
Or is that not an analogous example?

I have met people in totally dire circumstances, who do NOT resort to this nonsense.
What do you say of a young girl whose first ever experience of "sex" was with a dog?
Said girl was 6years old when her useless parents pimped her out to whiteys in that our naija...
All for what??
The odd dollar or a hundred.
The girl is 15 now and lives in London, she was adopted by a very loving Nigerian couple who were childless.
Now tell me how if this girl had become seriously affected by what happened and chose the alternative path,AND then compare her to someone who just decided to sell her ass so as to fit into a society that more often than not does not even care about you.
Who am i meant to reserve my love, support and kind words for?
Some akuna-kuna gone wrong?
Or a child who had absolutely NO say in the matter of what happened to her?

You talk of someone been in the presence of chicken rice and fanta--REALLY??
THAT is what it takes to easily lure someone?..Is it me,or is that long throat?Must we want ALL that we do not have or are not used to?
Is it that your girl had no reserve of basic contentment?
Then you might say,,"well she had nobody to teach her"
Then i would point you to so many many people i know who had to go it alone in this world and stay on the right path.
Some things are very basic common sense. We all love things we cannot afford, but where do we draw the line of admiring and moving on?
Can your girl HONESTLY tell you that she did not have an inkling of what was going on?
These girls are WAYYYYY more street wise than a lot of us who have lived sheltered lives.
They know the game.

I know a girl whose dad was an ambassador, she had the top flight life then in the early seventies/eighties...then her mum died, step mother moved in and things changed BADLY...i cannot repeat this girls story without running the risk of maybe exposing who she is.But she was kicked out of home..in some far eastern country.came back to naija, suffered like it was her birthright to
Lets just say that when girls go "i had to sleep with him,or do aristo..etc" to survive,,,i just laugh and call them greedy greedy cows.
If ******** struggled to be where she is today,AND married her husband a virgin(A story he is never tired of telling ANYONE),,this girl went to a foreign country on her own..HAD NOBODY(funny how people don't remember you when they feel they have nothing to gain from you)her accomodation was a CAR in someones parking lot..would shower in public restrooms..come rain or shine FOR TWO YEARS,,etc...a story that would make any body with blood flowing through their veins cry.
MEN,and i mean even her fathers important friends were offering her the good and easy life etc..SHE REFUSED...

WHY??
Has she got two heads?
OR did she just make a conscious effort to make a plan for her life and stick to it?

In as much as i respect each and everyones views cum opinion,it still can never change what i believe.I have heard soooo many stories and seen too many people in worse off conditions who came out on top with their heads held up high.

As for me,i know who i reserve my compassion for.

Not this ones abeg.

Not at all.

Somehow i agree with Nnena.A lot of older girls know what they are getting
into. Some of them dont want to work hard, they just want the fast money
and then when they are caught, they claim kidnap and trafficking.I dont
blame them for wanting fast cash because we do not know their condition and
the financial hardship they are going through.I however, feel sorry for
underaged ones, who are lured into these things without knowing the real deal

@NIETZSCHE
Holier than thou?
Who me?
It couldn't be...
How can Nne be judgemental,or holier than thou when Nne is the same girl who says she respects a hooker/escort who can some correct about who she is,and not play the victim?

Do you know what it is I have done in MY life?
But why would i now flip the scripts and play the victim when it goes wrong??THAT is what I hav a serious problem with.

Why all this lies and name calling?Oh Nietzsche
Why just jumping on the bandwagon without taking the time to assimilate anything?

All you need to do is state your opinion and be on your merry way?
abeggg red eye no dey light cigar o...so all that e-nostril flaring and things no go work with me!!

Can you not submit your opinion without resorting to childish name-calling?
How old are you?
Twelve?
Did i touch a raw spot?
Are you not mature enough to carry an argument without using words like "stupid" et al??

I honestly do not care what you think,i STILL insist, these women KNEW what they wer getting into, they LOVED it because of what they assumed they would get out of it,it went wrong and then they cry FOUL.Hence they are bogus.....bogus women, bogus claims!!!

Oh ALL the women lived in the desert for two years ba?
ha ha ha ha ha..

dear nneka,

i support a young girl in Lagos with a 4 yrd old kid. i met her suicidal during the rainy season sleeping on a corridor because her home (an unsafe uncompleted buliding) was demolished. She quickly had her things stolen sleeping rough and her kid was already coughing badly. I tried to raise cash for her for a room but couldnt do so because at the time all i had was spent paying house rent. While I was trying to get her a room and a little money for a mattress... she called me with exciting news. By this time she had rented a place by a Lagos waterside slum where they pay weekly rent and dodge police raids. She supported her self by doing labourer work or plaiting hair whenever she could. Occasionaly I would send credit for her to sell just to hang on. Back to the good news... In the new church she was attending at the waterside, a madame had taken to her and offered help. She was going to take her to plait hair in Togo! She told me about her benefactor and apparently the only thing that stopped her from leaving was her boy... madame offered to place him with her sister. Madames meetings where always held at some fast food were chicken, fried rice and fanta could be taken by my desperate girl and her little son who by this time was calling madame Mommy!
When she told me I warned her to RUN from this woman without arousing her suspicsion. Luckily my friends at New Dawn found a room for her and I got 25k to settle her in. Yes I said 25k. That is all that made a difference in this girls life. When we met later she told me how she looked at her room and cried and thanked God. Im not sure you could say greed would have led her into prostitution. When women can prowl desperately poor areas (madame lives in a fairly nice area) for girls who seem distraught they understand what they are capitalizing on. Ok Ive written enough...

So what if they know? The likes of Nnenna are so small minded it makes me sick.
Your small world is cut up into black and white, right and wrong.

If Nigeria were are first world where everyone had opportunities, you think people
will live in the desert for two years for the chance to fuck strangers 12 hours in
a day?

We all want a Nigeria where we all have equal and fair opportunities to do things
for ourselves. Don't be stupidly judgmental without thinking about the
complexities of the situation. It is easy to condemn and that's what you are doing
That's what Nigerians like to do. Without thinking about how our nation is so
messed up that it drive people to seek outlets that are less than ideal.

So Nenna, shut your holier-than-thou trap and let thinking people find listen to
these stories and figure a way out.

@INTERESTED--

I STILL DON'T GIVE A HOOT ABOUT THIS GREEDY MISGUIDED THIEVES.

"even the ones that go with their eyes open" she writes...na who send them?
"do you have any idea of the conditions that make them slo desperately envisage another life"---
haa,POP GOES THE WHISTLE...

YOU JUST HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD--and i WILL tell you WHAT CAN MAKE "A" envisage ANOTHER life.
**Long throat**
**Lack of contentment with what you have**
**Looking for a free ride in life**
***LAZY LAZY LAZY***

If this was a story about MEN who RESORT to stealing, yahoo yahoo,et al all because "them so desperately envisage another life"
MADAM INTERESTED WOULD YOU BE SAYING THE SAME THING?
AFTER-ALL,THEY ARE ALL LOOKING FOR AN EASY WAY OUT OF THEIR PRESENT "DIFFICULT" SITUATIONS NO??

Someone is going to come and spin some bananas in my ears that some fairytale madame PROMISED them an education "abroad",and then they got there and realised that OOPSS,I CAME TO DROP MY PANTS FOR CASH O--AND NOT BURY MY HEAD IN BOOKS"
Hmmm do i smell something?
oh yeah..BULLSH*T

How many countless women struggle to come abroad because they think their lives will get better, and when they get here, the realise the streets are not paved with gold, hence they work odd hours etc to make ends meet, come snow or shine?

And then how many DECIDE that they can make more money by beign escorts and hookers and all?
COUNTLESS,and better believe i have NOTHING against those who DECIDE to be escorts or hookers.

BUT FOR SOMEONE TO CLAIM THAT THEY WERE FORCED,ABUSED,PROMISED HEAVEN AND EARTH AND IT TURNED OUT NOT TO BE SO,AND THEN START CRYING FOUL,JUST STINKS STINKS STINKS.

Ahhh how i wish we humans had the ability to go into fellow humans minds--to the deepest depths of it,and then i can bet anything that MAJORITY of this DEPORTED mugus would STILL wish to go back to that same thing they are crying about ALL TO MAKE MONEY MONEY MONEY.

What nonsense madame is seizing their passports?
THEY KNOW THAT IF THEY GO AND REPORT TO AUTHORITIES,MORE OFTEN THAN NOT WITH THE NATURE OF THEIR JOBS(and we all know they wouldn't have work permits)THEY WOULD GET DEPORTED.
And since coming to "the abroad" is what they have been craving since they saw Mama Izehs pikin dey do shakara for them so....THEY TOO MUST TO BELONG.HENCE THE CYCLE CONTINUES.

They get caught, get deported and then to "cover their shame"--na to blame am on okija shrine and all sorts of juju and wicked madames...
buahahahaaaaa I LAUGH in hookernese....

Go to the Island,i cannot remember if the refuge is still there,u will see all of them, with their "oh sooo similar stories"--BULLSHIT.
Seperate the genuinely ABUSED ones from the GREEDY THIEVES and you notice a BIG DIFFERENCE.

Did someone tell them that going "away" was reserved for the kids of the wealthy?

When i was a student some years back,in my class we had a mix of children of the wealthy who had pocket money sent to them every single month,we had those who had money sent only when their folks could gather enough cash,we had those whose parents sent them with just blessings and Gods guidance i.e you are on your own.And this kids worked round their school hours to make it.BOTH MEN AND WOMEN.Infact i remember a swedish girl who worked as an ESCORT,and she told me how so many naija girls are in the game.DO YOU HEAR THEM CRYING FOUL?WHY?BECAUSE THEY ARE GETTING WHAT THEY BARGAINED FOR..MONEY,THEY KNOW THE DEAL/SCORE..and as she said,If the girls get a raw deal,it's left to them to either move on OR quit etc.
THEN there are those who struggled to bring themselves over, either to work or study.
LONG AND SHORT,THERE IS NO SITUATION NEW UNDER THE SUN.
AND I HATE PEOPLE WHO BLAME "SITUATIONS" ON HOW THEY HAD TO BE FORCED INTO PROSTITUTION IN EUROPE.

In this Jand,i know a woman and her daughter who own a brothel--both africans--Of course it wasn't until they were caught that the secret to their flashy life was exposed. The mothers had her daughter working for her since the age of 18....their brothel was in central london.
The womans husband is actually my own friend, who did not know what his wife was doing for a living until HIS life got turned upside down by her nonsense.
ALL the girls in the brothel were Africans, and the man told me that they were brought in from Africa yearly, mostly fresh--and were ALL made to sign agreements about what was expected of them-do you think they get chained to rooms?-They are allowed out, they go shopping, movies etc-They are even swapped with brothels in other EU countries-AND THEY ALL FIGHT THEMSELVES to have the opportunity to go to some other countries where amongst themselves they know the women get paid better-BUT when things go pear shaped they have the story they can sell to gain pity and tug at peoples heart strings,BECAUSE THEY KNOW it would work.-These girls were interviewed by the cops etc...majority are in detention centres...some that one way or another got let off,STILL went back to meet my own friend the brothel madames husband,to see if he had any "johns" for them,or if madames contact book was available etc..anyway,too long a story and VERY messy.
The madame is now cooling her heels in jail...her daughter was detained for a while but let off.

You think it's everything the media will carry?
When those in a power of protection actually act very non-challant about "black" situations-
Dem no send o,more like a case of every 1 in a hundred thousand.
The daughter is elsewhere now running a fresh brothel--and quelle suprise!!!!
The same girls who got off from detention are back with her.WORKING!!!

Just because someone has come to the public arena to cry and look for pity or what not DOES NOT MAKE THEIR STORY TRUE.
Women like that are very hardened....and when you dig deeper, there is usually three sides to their situation,THEIR VERSION,THE TRUTH AND A BL**DY LIE!!!

POINT ME TO A NAIJA WOMAN WHO WOULD WILLINGLY SAY THAT SHE DECIDED WITHIN HERSELF TO CHOOSE PROSTITUTION AS A WAY OF LIFE.
LAI-LAI...
TO GARNER EMPATHY,SHE NEEDS TO EMBELLISH HER "LIFE STORY"!
AND PLAY THE VICTIM.
SO PEOPLE WOULDNT SAY SHE IS A BAD PERSON.

I WOULD HAVE WAYYY MORE RESPECT FOR THESE ONES,IF THEY HELD THEIR HANDS UP AND SAID "THIS THING FALL MY HAND O"..I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE LIKE THIS,BUT IT TURNED OUT TO BE LIKE THAT...CHAI,BUT I HAVE LEARNT MY LESSON...I AM NO LONGER INTERESTED...BUT WOULD NOW BE WILLING TO GUIDE OTHER GIRLS AWAY FROM IT.

BUT ABEGII,DON'T SHOW YOUR UGLY MUG IN FRONT OF MY SCREEN OR MAGAZINE,TALKING NONSENSE.

IN my humble opinion--NOBODY OF A CERTAIN AGE CAN BE FORCED TO DO ANYTHING THEY DO NOT WANT TO DO!!!

I HEREBY SUBMIT THAT THESE ONES ARE STILL GREEDY MISGUIDED THIEVES.

AND I NNE,HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PITY FOR THEM.
