This past weekend, in tune with the 13th year anniversary of Afrobeat legend Fela’s death, Elan – The Fashion Magazine insert of Next on Sunday Newspaper explored the art of Fela’s Queens. Elan chose to celebrate the allure of his Queens, be recreating some of their looks with for their fashion pages, 2 of the models include dancers from the band – Seun Kuti and Egypt 80.
The edition also included an interview with Fela’s first daughter Yeni Kuti and the style profile of Dede Mabiaku.

lovely makeup
beautiful photos, elan is really stepping things up. I like !
Nice makeup but a little too cleaned up to truely depict Fela’s queens.
And the hair! Uhm…not working for the purpose at all. Com’on, Fela’s women had dramatic, puffy hairdos for the most part.
One more observation…..no frame focus on rearviews and shekeres??? Are you kidding? Hopefully they have those covered in other shots not shown here.
On this one Elan scores a 6/10 with me.
Does anyone know who the model is? She looks familiar
abit late but she is zulu.
Beautiful, Africa 4 lyfe!
FYI, the above photos (and most featured in the Elan Afrobeat edition) are by Abraham Oghobase…
models name is Zulu
Yes, I figured it out. Thanks
Yeni is Fela’s DAUGHTER; not sister!!!
