Miss Universe 2010 – African Queens in Traditional, Evening & Swimwear – The Winner Emerges Tonight
Posted on Monday, August 23rd, 2010 at 7:21 PMBy BellaNaija.com
The Miss Universe 2010 pageant will take place tonight in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Last week, We introduced the seven African queens who are representing our continent. Now, you get to see the ladies in new looks including their traditional wear and evening wear.
Based on the comments from our last feature, it seems as though Miss Ghana is the favoured African Queen. On the Miss Universe website, the African queen with the highest user rating is Miss South Africa with 2.54 points, Miss Ghana is second with 2.49. At the bottom of the pile, Miss Angola has 1.72 and Miss Nigeria is at 1.84.
We believe that their ratings are low because we don’t vote. Many countries especially in South America are seriously fanatical about voting for their beauty queens!
Then again, maybe we have more important things to worry about besides voting for beauty queens.
Anyway, its all in good fun! Check out the photos below and we will find out the final results tonight! All the best to all the girls.
Update:
Miss Mexico won the crown – Jimena Navarrete is Miss Universe 2010
South Africa’s Nicole Flint was in the Top 10! Congrats to her and all the queens.

(I’m from Jamaica) & I Must say…………….VERY BEAUTIFUL BLACK WOMEN…….best wishes, much love <3 <3
Nigeria contestant, is such a big mess mehn..If you wan tie gele tie am well. Her customs are so wrong from A to Z.Next time Most beautiful handlers, please get a better stylist abeg…Despite our rich Culture, the only thing she fit wear go beauty pagneat na ”akanpo”..SO Sad!
The Ghanaian chic is hot!
I still pick Miss Ghana.
I concur your comment
Bella, I’m loving your tongue-in-cheek patriotism despite the obvious. lol.
On another note, what’s up Zambia?! That pic speaks volumes!
what do u mean when u say the pic speaks volumes??
i can’s believe miss Nigeria was featured like that! I dnt like the colours! the gele is a hot mess! Who did that?????
* can’t – Just so furious that we would be portrayed that way!
miss Nigeria’s Evening gown was a hot mess.
u are dead right….
I like her trad but her Evening Gown….Chiiiile No!
miss naija is just wrong!!! very very wrong!!!
silverbird pple v a lot to answer o ….. haba!
body – zero, costume – zero … even evening gown looks like a long blue tutu!!!
ptscheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwww
Na wa o! Miss Angola’s Trad wear looks like Ehi mmiri!
d Miss Ghana gal luks amazing. wow!
OMG!!!! Miss Nigeria did not look fab, her trad outfit undermines the very rich culture of Niger Delta/Ibo community………d sleeve of her blouse is too wide to be chic, her headgear not artistic, her beads not arranged seQuentially, she lacks professional touch!!!! arrrrrrrrhhh!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t know much about Nigerian local custom but I don’t think Nigeria’s attire was that bad (perhaps she could have gone without that yellow headwear) and myabe the blue evening gown was not ideal but there is no denying she is a beauty though and has a lovely figure! my money is on Angola though!
I am not very pleased that the SA (highly UN-African looking) Lady will have the highest ratings. Please I personally will vote if I can, so this atrocity will not happen, where can we vote pls? I can take the time to rally more friends biko!!Miss nija is lovely but im not feeling the yellow gele at all. It looks like its gonna fall apart.
Miss Nigeria is not that bad, but her evening gound could have been better. she has one of the best bodies (that the judges would like) along with Tanzania and South Africa
Hi people, take it easy on the Nigerian contestant. Ok, maybe it was not the best naija head gear tied, but she is pretty and they look for more than gele/fashion at pageants too. And we dont know, anything could have gone wrong.
I’ve been producing pageants for years and I can honestly tell you that sometimes, things can go wrong even last minute for any of the girls! The only thing I have to say is that the wrapper did not bring out her shape, but then again, it was ‘traditional’ wear segment, so, her shape showed on the swimsuit segment.
let’s cross out fingers and pray she wins the crown, right?
Am just saying.
I came back again ..lol..How much is it is going to cost Sliverbird to fly in ”Segun gele” to tie her gele to look classy..They need to be fined for disgracing my country woefully..Is just creepy, from every angle.
i soooooooooooo agree wit u am so embarrased by d@ gele its looks vry rough……….silverbird this is 4 ur backside”whip”whip”whip”whip”
Y’all are harsh LOL. Ms Nigeria is not bad-she’s quirky and cute! I will say that Ghana and Angola also look great!
miss Tanzania, go girl
Love miss Tanzania’s hair. With naija’s rich cultural heritage, that’s the best traditional attire that them stylist could come up with?… sigh
why is ms Nigeria wearing such an outdated evening dress
Ms Tanzania is hot!!!Btw, i saw pics of all the other contestants and none of the Caucasian contestants had AFRO or KINKY WIGS / WEAVES on their heads…Go figure
Kai, only that oyinbo Miss South Africa reach top 15…. Am rooting for Miss Jamaica now…
y did south africa allow oyibo to represent them???? hissssssssssssssss
Viva Mexico! but sha Miss Jamaica shoulda won abeg…
Miss Ghana rocks! Miss Nigeria (not a pretty gurl, weird attire), Miss Botswana is short, has the shortest legs amongst them all…i jus wonder how dis most beautiful gurl thing works!
miss ghana looked really chic! i love her outfit.. miss zambia did not try o!!!
OH NO! and South Africa was the only African country to make it to the top 15. tsk tsk tsk. I wouldn’t even consider that a “win” of any sort for Africa.
we shall try again next year….or FORGET THIS JUNK.
Miss Africa anyone? Lol
@niyo;laughing real hard at “looks like a long blue tutu”….
Must have been gotten from Occasions and Events! Lol
Men, the Tanzania chic is the hottest to me. And I love that she’s not wearing long hair. She’s got a lovely face and a great body. Methinks she rocks!!!
Miss Nigeria was not bad at all pls let’s not use our mount to condem her she is prety and everyting about her is ok
Pls who picked that dress for Miss Nigeria? lets even assume the judges dont know about our culture so they wont notice the nonsense “ekpo” attire but abeg that dress nko?? to say its a hot mess is to put it nicely really. I mean check out Miss Egypt’s fab dress, see Ghana na! kai!
walang gabon
Miss Ghana, carry go o jare!!! You are the best of all the African representatives!!! Miss Zambia: This is the reason why people who know little or nothing about Africa still think we live in trees in Africa! Calabashes? Really?
as for Miss Nigeria, I have no words! Evening wear + African Attire = Hot mess!!
I am so laffing hysterically @ ur comment.inshort I am off my seat.lmao.Mayb some Africans live on trees.lol
LOL. NA WAOO! SHE NEED A BIT OF UPUR COMLIMENT.CHEERS
In case anyone is wondering, no, Nigeria was not a semi-finalist but South Africa did!
South Africa 2.54 points? Where did they get that from? Is it because she’s white? Who are those people that voted? Someone shouldn’t get me angry o. Nigerian candidate may not carry the day but what happens to other beautiful black ladies? Ghana is cute. Tanzanian is superb with other black ladies. They had better adjust that point fast. The Nigerian girl is beautiful in her won right. Those who put those dresses on her need to be sanctioned for choosen that custume for her. Why won’t Nigeria be at the foot of the table? Shioooooooooooo
Miss Ghana looks plain!!
GO Miss Nigeria
Yea Miss Nigeria Dress was not the one at all (Blue taffetta nonsensocology) but also miss ghana’s dress looked tacky on her did not exude class at all ….
best evening wear – miss zambia and miss egypt!!!
Nigeria could still take it – she’s the most striking!!! Gwan Girl
Kai we Nigerians are so pessimisitc – even if she wins we go still they yarn!!!! The world views you the way you view yourself people!!! a lil support wouldnt go amiss!!!!
i will pick miss Zambia , cos she has the features l like …e.g Long legs and divine waist
ohhhh.. i think miss nigeria have swaggz…lolz
Miss Ghana is hotttt… I guess it is a sad truth. They always think that lighter your skin the prettier you are hence only Miss South Afrixa made it to top 15! Yeah, Miss Africa and screw the rest of the world. *grabs a bottle, and smashes it then in a very loud tone screams* ” VIVA THE UNITED STATES OF AFRICA, VIVA!!!!! “
I AM WITH YOU ON THAT ONE!!! FORGET TRYING TO CONFORM TO THIS EUROCENTRIC STANDARD OF BEAUTY ALL THE TIME.
YOU DON’T SEE NON-BLACK CONTESTANTS SEWING AFRO WEAVES INTO THEIR HEADS.
errrrr…. im in accra and i see white girls with conrows + afros everyday. so…
Well i have watched the last two editions of Miss UNIVERSE and i always had a problem with Nigeria’s native attire, they always seem to be from another country,i mean i could not match them.to any tribe here in the country, this attire tells you this is from Nigeria,
@Kuzo Kay: I mean her outfit can be interpreted in so many ways, good and bad. I think it’s very daring but I can also think of many better uses for those ‘distracting’ jars. No offence Zambians
Bella the ‘reply’ comemnt button does not work for everyone…..just incase you can look into it.Thanks.
@Nneka lol..i dont take offence i am actually Zambian…
Pls na only me see say miss Angola wear boots with the trad abi na so for then side?
As for miss Nig, let’s not rob peter to save paul, what a big mess! Last minute mishap or not! With all the designers and wannabees, something more potraying could not be arranged for her, shame on silverbird with all that reputation?!
Little details like this, matter it makes up the package! We love mediocrity too much in Africa hence why we never are the best.
Not impressed some fine girls but the beauty queen in them is absent or perhaps not there at all but of all, na 9ja vex me pass as na my country and oh! We so got it going on!
Imagine that evening dress!! My housegirl sef go vex! Sorry I can’t hide it!
The stylist for Miss Nigeria was absolute RUBBISH, c’mon now..abeg they need to scrap all these contests already jo
wetin we sabi do well for Naija? Ball we no sabi play, bomb we no sabi blow, na only yahoo-yahoo. Me tire o……
The Silverbird group should look into the quality of girls the churn out as beauty queens and should stop mixing business with pleasure…..
There you are on your soap boxes judging and critizing are you all aware that Ngozi odalonu did not get paid until like two weeks before she went to vegas and everything she took with her she did with her money. I am sure she only got 500usd for her trip that’s right 500usd. Silverbird doesn’t spend one naira on these girls and yet they are expected to do amazing. That dress on her looks like its from occasion and events( guy bruce’s wife’s shop. God punish all these people who decieve little girls into the spotlight and leave them hanging. Ask any one in that company how much they spend on their queens, honestly all you win is all you will get. How do I know I was once a queen for silverbird and I know these things. So stop judging that’s the most one 22 year old could do by herself for a country of over 140million people. Silverbird is the hot mess not the queens they produce
Well,First of all, No one is judging her for the whole mess. She doesnot have a good dress sense, that could have beffited,a beauty pageant as huge as the”Miss Universe”Fine, She may have gotten little or No support from Sliverbird but could have made a better choice than what she wore during the competition.Morerover, how are we suppose to know that she was not been given aqequate support,to represent the country, but remember, ”what is worth doing , is worth doing well”..My advice is next time, if you dont have enough resources to look your best, then pull out of the competition.I personally donot blame her but sliverbird for not getting a good stylist for her competition…Just saying.
so you are Sandra Otohwo? HEY!!! didn’t know you read BN!
I didn’t know that there was no real funding for these winners. SO SAD! Silverbird can give away millions of Naira to the winners and then expect the winner to use her prize money for the pageant? THAT IS JUST SO BACKWARDS!
if what you’re saying is true, OUT WITH MBGN AND BRING BACK MISS NIGERIA!
@StraightTalk, what a load of hogwash!
How r we supposed to know that they r not funded, and since you know and hav experienced it wht not gather yr selves and go public on Silverbird, to create a change.
I was really ruling 4 Jamaica, she was robbed! Mehn, dat girl’s got some moves!
there all of you sit judging from the comfort of your homes and you do not even know the truth about a thing. are you all aware that silverbird sends these girls to international pageants with just 500usd they do their shopping with the money they win because silverbird will never do it. we see latinas win these pageants every year and we ask why. the answer is simple they go the extra mile to impress the judges and pageant organisers even if it means surgery and lobbying, they send their queens to finishing schools and teach the basics of competing internationally and over here silverbird holds the winners prize money until like a week to the competition and then tell the girls that they do not handle anything that has to do with all they are required to bring. they have to buy extensions and clothes that will last them for a month(one million prize don finish o) now momo the official designer for silverbird has backed out thats why the IDIOTS gave her a dress from occasions and events which incidentally belongs to the bruces as well. lets face facts the hot mess here is silverbird, they have shielded themselves from the fireballs and used these innocent to cover up. all the nonsense we see in these competitions internationally are only the symptoms of the problem the actual pandemic is guy bruce and the silverbird entertainment company. how do i know all these i have been there and i know how it is. i think we should set a board that will regulate these pagents and put them in check until then we will never win anything else internationally. p.s silverbird should sell these competition franchises to sensible people who will dedicate their time to making queen who are treu and prepared to be decent competition internationally i dont mind i can buy one if they will sell.
Ms. Ghana takes the one hands down! She should win
what a PA-I-TY!
miss Ghana looked the part ,her hair style was lovely , how far with miss naija’s font hill road dress oh!!! , not much thought was given to both her outfits ncha ncha
Everyone looks lovely…but Miss Ghana “looks” like she put in the most effort to look put together pagentwise and yet still traditional. Next year let us crown someone from the continent
, hopefully Miss Naija.
where did mbgn get this girl from..look at the other African contestants..miss angola, ghana..are more ms universe material..esp ms ghana..
aww mama ghana! bring the crown to me i will meet u at kotoka…lol…but i do like all the girls
ok seriously people, AREN’T WE TIRED OF WHITE/LIGHT-SKINNED PEOPLE BASHING?????? most of us here commenting hav never experienced apartheid or racism, yet we will be d first 2 hav mouth diarrhea. now i know how silly i used to sound. sme of these ‘whit’ south-africans, are actually born in south africa, speak the lang, etc.!!! how would the girl feel if she heard y’all talking ish like ‘she’s not african’??? yet we are the same ones quick 2 point out we are british/american/mongolian all becuz our mama dropped us out in a hospital in another country other than ours. really, people???
remember that black chinese girl on the talent show who had a black father and was as chinese as the chinese yaki on my head, yet she wasnt accepted cuz she was darker skinned. until we start to see past colour of skin and whether or not the hair on my head is kinky or Yaki 1B (dnt even get me started on hair issues), we will NEVER PROGRESS AS A PEOPLE. SHAME!!!
blah blah blah blah!!! how many Black African(not colored) contestants have represented Miss South Africa since the pageant started? its not to say whites shouldn’t represent, but its how often.
a country where AT LEAST 80% of its citizens are black african have only been represented twice and that was around the time apartheid ended. does that sound right to you? they are fooling NO ONE.
and all those examples you brought are totally unrelated and baseless.
miss zambia’s costume?- i rest my case
please who was her stylist?!
Oh Lord..Upon all the fashion forward taht we are doing in Nigeria, our beauty queen still look like she is in a pagent that was held in 1989..*hiss*
please spare me all that MBGN,its not abt Ngozi personally but her dress sense too should be questioned,i was once a queen i choose everything i worn that day mysef,my swim suit to my native to my evening gown and i turned out chick. The whole attire is so outdated
i wish it was the efik atire ‘ofong ukot awan or oyonyon’ but its alwys ibo.ibo.ibo. This is rubbish 4 nigeria. I love the tanzanian babe n ghana. They are good
Bots rocks
come on ba zambia
