Alter Ego is one of those Nigerian fashion brands that has been quietly making progress over the last few years. Alter Ego designer, Nwakaego Madueke shares their inspiration for their new collection:

Alter Ego is designed for the Contemporary Nigerian woman who loves great design, who is not afraid of a little edginess, who wants to reference trends but is not a slave to fashion. As the Nigerian fashion industry evolves, the other side was yet to be seen – the Alter Ego side ,which registers a totally fresh appeal

Alter Ego focuses on clean and fluid pieces – in order to achieve that breezy movement, they took the extra step to develop their own fabrics – they worked with their manufacturing partners to transfer the much loved ankara print to other fabrics including silk chiffon and jersey.

Alter Ego is not cutting edge fashion, instead they focus on using classic shapes such as the shift, the maxi, and the wrap dress etc… and combine that with their custom fabric to make wearable and versatile pieces.

Ankara in other fabric types? that is very brilliant. Finally something fresh and new from all the glitter bug that has taken over the ankara fabric.

Lovely pieces and they look wearable too. Not body revealing like all the other ones we see.

Pretty basic stuff. Whoever sewed em is a good seamstress and thats abt it…..no magic no nothing

Wow. Pictures are horrible and so are the clothes. Very bland and not inspiring.

Now lemme go see what T-Sambo wrote ’cause I think he knows his fashion

Ok so they aren’t cutting edge quite alright but they are obviously making failed attempts at being creative. Kudos for transferring ankara print to other textures though (not that it’s obvious)…
I guess this is where Ms Madueke fires her photographer and stylist.

I love every single piece here and the models are ok. I bet all the negative critiques aren’t half as fine as d models, and they can’t come up with any more “original” design ideas either

u can say dat again.like dey can do beta

    • gbeborun September 19, 2010 at 10:15 PM

I think the designer should work on the finishing and structure but great attempt.

I think we should applaud this designer for being able to step out of the box rather than the usual embellish theme we are used to seeing . Come on
