Three Musical ‘Rule Breakers’ on One Hot Track: Awilo Longomba feat. Terry G & Timaya – Brukutu

This song had me trying to figure out how to dance Alanta and Makossa at the same time.

It is very easy to class Terry G, Timaya and Awilo on one track as Pop music overkill, still they pull it off just fine. They teamed up on this track – “Brukutu” produced by Terry G. A song like this makes it clear, that no matter how much we belittle our ‘Jollof music,’ Africa and the rest of the world are listening.

I don’t know which is worse about this music, the banal cliche african beats or Timaya’s overwhelming screeching voice on this track. I couldn’t listen for up to a minute. Maybe I should tie myself down and try to listen again, maybe I would have something positive to write then.

Those who say Awilo did this because he is broke know absolutely nothing about business. The Nigerian music scene is probably the largest in Africa (I actually think it´s bigger tan SA´s) and probably the richest. What´s the fastest way of scoring a tour in Nigeria? A collaboration with a local star or in this case, stars.

I love anything with these three artists. This song makes you move every part of your body, swing your hair, move your waist, etc. I love it.
