It is the first BN Red Carpet Fab of 2011!

The 2011 Edition of the Future Awards was a celebration of all that is great about Nigeria – the brave and enterprising youth who are challenging the status quo and pushing Nigeria forward.
On the red carpet, guests chose to support the budding African fashion industry by wearing pieces by Nigerian designers.

Past editions of the Future Awards have been noted for the brave looks on the red carpet, this year, guests applied a subdued yet even more glamorous approach. We saw trends done right including Genevieve Nnaji rocking a 70s style jumpsuit by Meena; Omowunmi Akinnifesi channeling old school divas in a long sleeve floor length red dress by House of Nwocha; Yvonne Nwosu of Vonne was a vintage vamp in a shimmery dress with transparent panels; Omotola maintained her “Omosexy” status in floor length dress by Sally Bawa; The quartet of Dolapo OniToni Tones, Eku Edewor & designer, Bridget Awosika looking stunning in pieces by Bridget Awosika.

Overall, it was an exciting style night out.

Experience the most comprehensive (and fabulous) red carpet coverage of the 2011 Future Awards – we present BN Red Carpet Fab – The Future Awards 2011 Edition.

BN Pick – Best Dressed
One of our BN wishes for 2011 was that new Style Stars would emerge this year! While we were busy wishing, some of our favourite stylistas have taken the extra step to reinvent themselves on the red carpet.
Our BN fave at the Future Awards 2011 was Omowunmi Akinnifesi.
She made a brave choice with this floor-length textured and layered red dress. This is a very unexpected choice from the ex-beauty queen. It is a difficult dress to rock but Omowunmi totally blossomed in this House of Nwocha dress. Her gold Jimmy Choo heels and Chanel clutch sealed the deal. Love the modern braided chignon and delicate red drop earrings.

Yummy Mummy Alert! It was great to see Omotola and so many other celebrities supporting young Nigerian designers. Omotola wore a teal and lace dress from upcoming Nigerian designer, Sally Bawa.

To wear an outfit like this, you must be confident and have a slamming fit body! Genevieve Nnaji ticks all the right boxes in this indigo jumpsuit from promising young designer talent, Meena (by Uju Offiah).

This Bridget Awosika dress looked even more beautiful in ‘person’. The flow of the skirt and the modern structure of the top created a stunning look on stage for Dolapo Oni who was one of the co-hosts of the show.

From Runway to Vintage
Style minds think alike! Simi Idowu rocked this vintage inspired gold and black lace dress by APRIL by Kunbi on the same night that Mad Men’s January Jones wore a similar dress at the SAG Awards. January’s dress is by Carolina Herrera.
