“An Afromantic Daydream” – Christie Brown – Spring/Summer 2011 Capsule Collection
Posted on Wednesday, March 9th, 2011 at 3:17 AMBy BellaNaija.com
With the 2011 ARISE Magazine Fashion Week launching in Lagos in under 24 hours, the Lagos social scene is getting ready to experience a fashion explosion. One of the most anticipated presentations is the Christie Brown show. Christie Brown is a Ghanaian fashion label headed by Aisha Obuobi. The label has garnered strong international endorsements with mentions in Grazia, Marie Claire and most recently, Jet Magazine. Last year, Destiny’s Child member, Michelle Williams wore a Christie Brown jacket for a UK TV appearance thus adding to the buzz surrounding the label. In December 2010, Christie Brown enjoyed its Nigerian launch as the brand was introduced to the Lagos fashion set via an event at Temple Muse – the luxury boutique which stocks the brand exclusively in Nigeria.
The Christie Brown aesthetic is all about celebrating the beauty in simplicity. “An Afromantic Daydream” employs great use of neutral earth tones and natural fabrics including cotton enhanced with Chantilly lace and the signature Christie Brown button detailing. The bold accessories make great use of ankara and feathers to create a definite style statement.
View the collection “An Afromantic Daydream” below. Christie Brown will show at the ARISE Magazine Fashion Week on Friday 11th March 2011 at 1PM.

Ghanaians are very merticulous and very detailed in their cloth making – nice one sha.
Merticulous?lol
Lool
Hehe
Damn – she is only 25 – whao – thats impressive indeed – Excellent
Don’t like the neck pieces at all…especially the ones with the feathers.
Bella do you have the itinerary for the fashion show and location details
Aisha’s pieces are “hespensif” but these are absolutely adorable!!!! I want! Yes, I will even pay the arm and leg for them.
PS: the natural hair for the model is also lovely!
yes oooo!! this natural hair business cleaned up the whole ensemble. took the outfit from fab to fabulous! gives it a royal finish, like “i don’t have to wear brazilian/indian remy to prove anything. I am the daughter of the King”. FIRE!!
great silhouette for the model, the clothes flatter her figure. I don’t like that brown/golden lipstick though. looks like she dipped her lips inside left-over oil when you fry akara.
I agree! The hair added an extra oomph to each look.
PPS: a tutorial on the model’s hairstyle would be great, lol.
i DIED and gone to clothes heaven. I wont mind using my months pay on that 7th dress. it is absolutely FAB!
Impressive!

Am short of words.. This is sweet, wonderful, beautyful, excellent, GORGEOUS!!!
impressive, some of the pieces felt a little LDA-esque though. I love the 7th piece, maybe i should start saving …..lol the loved the brown jacket too.
FABULANTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the day dresses, but the necklaces are gonna take some time to win me over.
is this not timeless just watch and the ladies wanna have some more
one word, okay tow words……creative, beautiful and the hair………….I WANT
looove the neck pieces especially the first one. i’m not usually a fan of ankara buttons but she has found a way to make them work and not look ‘tailor lo run’ ish
Very Lovely pieces.

Beautiful….
Fabulous eye popping pieces….
the natural hair is a breath of fresh air.
PPS: I also love how the model’s poses are simple and don’t involve any acrobatics. they don’t overshadow the dresses.
She’s very talented!
Amazing work. i see so many less hyped yet fantastic designs on Bella every week. I don’t know why even months later, i am still disappointed in Bridget Awosika’s collection. I had high hopes for that chic and i still hope she redeems her brand with her next collection
Beautiful!!!!!
iS That natural hair, wow! its so beautiful. our fellow peeps…
I would like to train with you, you are such a talented designer with moderacy in view, please let me know how i will go about my plans . Thank you.
Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful!!! I love all of my Christie Brown pieces and these pictures make me want to get more….CONGRATS! to them also on their Jet magazine cover, nice to see Africans going International etc…
What Jet magazine cover? Kimora’s on the cover this month, and it hasn’t been included in the press section on the Christy Brown website.
Father, Please inspire someone to see these clothes and think of me and then buy them for me.
Amen.
This is lovely
Apart from #7, nothing else here looks clean. Too gimmicky for my liking.

If this was a naija based designer, it would have been “no big deal”, what is the buzz, but being a non-naija based, then we hear all the praises and choruses on designs that in my own opinion are not too great. Really there is nothing new here, JBL, Ituen Bassey and so on and so forth have different variations. The fabrics used are alson nothing to write home about…but if God be for you, who can be against you, is the case of this designer. It is just her time to shine…according to her creator.
different variations of the neck pieces i meant to add
aaaahhhh!!!!! FABULOUSITY!!!! I WANT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM!
im so luvin all these collection
That brown coat is awesome. I love the details of the dresses and the model’s natural hair. Well done Christie Brown
im so luvin evri bit of this
Lovely collection….nice fabric and I love the use of buttons!
I love these! The details on the dresses are lovely. My best piece is that brown jacket in the second picture. I soo want. Good job.

I am not particularly wowed by her designs, I think we have seen them all before. And I wonder why she had to make to use of those cover buttons in her designs, they make her designs look rather tacky. It’s reminiscent of the designs of some of our local tailors. In all, she appears to be a good designer and still has a lot of room for improvement.
