The 2011 ‘Sophisma Collection’ by Sally Bawa
Posted on Thursday, June 9th, 2011 at 12:41 PMBy Ijeoma Ndekwu
Nigerian fashion label, Sally Bawa has been running for 10years now and offers its clients ready-to-wear and exclusive pieces. BN featured the designer brand a couple of months ago during the Emerging Fashion Talent Week. The Entrée collection by the brand was well received by our readers, and I am guessing the Sophisma will be because it continues on the idea.
‘Sophisma’ is a Greek word from which the word Sophomore is derived, it means ‘in turn from’ or ‘second’. The Sophisma Collection is a follow up to our previous collection, the 2011 Entree´ Collection. It features slight alterations of some of our old bestsellers and the introduction of a few new designs. It is playful, relaxed and colorful and features pieces that fit most parts of our lifestyle. Be it a lazy Saturday with friends, an evening out with the lads, a quiet evening with the significant other and a good selection for a get away.- Sally Bawa
The ready-to-wear collection of men and womenswear is comprised of pieces which combine the ease of being every-day chic with an allure for sophistication. It’s clean, wearable day and evening pieces.

Nice collection doesn’t even look African so unique
Nice outfits but the model is so obviously not professional. Sowwy #MyTake
yaay! First to comment. Nice pieces, love most of them
NO MY DEAR TRY TOMORROW!!!
I love i love….
Nigerian Fashion designers are good no doubt about that but one thing is for sure you all should stop using this weird and one way concept for your shoot even if your collections is the best, but if the pictures portraying them are not catchy sorry it goes no way BRANDING IS VERY IMPORTANT
waouh j’adoooooooooooooooooooooore la collection est superbe
BORING! Nigerian designers need to come up with new ideas. These are clothes i can get in very cheap high street stores. You can make plain clothes look fabulous simply by styling them very well. Y’all need to go back to your drawing board. SNOOZEFEST!
god bless ur – mehn…. i mean they continue doin it thanks to the ppl that come here in awe to something i saw on forever 21 last yr… hisss… i dint see anything new here at all… these arent even fashion shoots… more like they r showin makeup….
I need that last gown in my life ASAP
lovely piece…..really beautiful, i’d love to wear.
lovely! lovely! lovely!
i am in love with these dresses hoping to have all such dresses
Laide and Sade look fab!
Lovely pieces too
Sade i see you…looking good
Men the guy is delicious looking…..dang
ooooooo i <3
A Good DLSR Camera and Adobe Photoshop does Wonders. I need to invest in one.
What city were the photos taken – naija or london?
Best part of is, the ladies clothes would be great on girls of any size. Brilly!
Nice, wearable but nothing different or outstanding. Good effort n finishing tho.
i luv d pink gown cos her boobs look full but in d black one nothing, y ? all d same cute.
@ Susan: d pictures were taken in Lagos…..De marque (mega plaza) to be precise.
okay collection…..
She’s cute and omg he’s sexy. I like that they didn’t use the typical stick thin models for this. as the title says the style is relaxed and playful and the pics show just that. They look like 2 people just chilling on a Saturday. I love most of the dresses and would love to add some of them to my collection.
Abegi! This is BS. You find – like this @ new look and other high street shops. Abeg borrow a leaf from Deola Sagos. KMFT
They also have a bespoke collection, tried out her designs after so much hearsay and to say i was whao-ed is an understatement. impressed by the creativity. nice work
nice clothes, good finishing. guys this is from their ready to wear collection. they have a bespoke line but as we all know, deola sagoe doesnt sell – so this is where the money is. and is there new look in nigeria? abeg commend when u need to commend and stop hating. good work sally bawa keep the good work up. shiorrr.
nice….but the collection is so cliche.
i love the simplicity
Sade i see you!!!! Looking good babe
everybody is a critic….have you looked at the so called season designers to see that there is nothing new under the sun, but nigerian designers should go back to their drawing board. some people suffer from delusion on grandeur….they should make clothes of a certain style so that you can all say its not wearable, get real! D&G, M.Kors are making similar dresses season after seasons but then they are geniuses…but for this women they have to go to hell and back to please. Get a life and do better if you dare! enough whinning Ms Chloe
Grade: A
LOVE that last dress!
Look I have no problem with collections like this one; I only take issue when they are priced like designer pieces without the detailing & quality to match the price.
The clothes are perfectly wearable and decent but I hope the prices are decent as well because Naija designers and piss-taking no be today!
P.S I like that the model has killer curves and isn’t some tsick-thin prototype with a nervous face. I also noticed that she isn’t holding her waist and hunching her back in a bid to look “High Fashion”!!!!
very elegant collection, something I would love to wear!

I like the collection. Its practical and wearable. Not everyone wants big loud and innovative! yes the fabrics are not fab, but i’m guessing the lady tried to at least start somewhere… I like that last dress..they way it falls is lovely..
I want all the clothes and the men too! Thank you!
I really hate to say this, but this is one boring ordinary collection. Simple clothes and understated elegance….yes but nothing high octane about it. Why would i buy a designer label if it wont make my pals die out of envy?
lovely collection, simple and chic
Nice, very wearable and simple….it’s obviously meant to be everyday so it good quality look fro naija.
Who made u guys models lol just kiddn, looks good!
welldone *yawn* this things dey balogun jo and the accessories u can use whatever works best but all the same God bless ur hustle Sally its not easy at all.
Nice. Are they really made in Nigeria?
And the difference between yours and everyone else’ is?
Ahn ahn, striking photos, the model did them justice, and most of the clothes, I could totally wear. Congrats on a nice collection and successful showcase of it.
Me likey!!!
Nice clothes and the models totally ‘wore’ them. Well done.
The guy is fine sha. That’s all me I saw.
The Model for menswear modeled only a pair of trouser through out
Nice….. i like the the cloths and accessories combo.
they ar all nice collections n gud to go anytyme
sexy! sassy!
nicee but I wish the models did not sit down in almost all the pictures. They hid the beautiful outfits .
gawd!!i love ‘em all, especially d blue piece with beaded neck!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the collection is amazing but its not about the models its about the clothes them sitting down you cant even see the clothes they need to showcase the clothes makes us want to buy them … the was a big failure on your part
really nice. nuffin outta d norm tho. just saying, but hey kudos to d effort at all.
prefer her first collection. this is okay sha.
The models are sexy! Especially the guy! I love the clothes! Very wearable
hmmmmm
nice collection…me likey!
they aint new……but i love the gowns…and like one of my sis above said…i need them in my life asap…lol!!!
nothing spectacular, especially the guys. they are clothes you see all the time…
very comfy n sexy 2! in a very subtle way!! i luv!!1
beautiful photos…. nice and simple outfits.. hope d price tags share the same simplicity if not, its not worth it.
Nice collection but it looks more like a stylist, showing us how to combine pieces & put together an outfit. I have similar clothes in my closet, from Next, forever 21 & Mango to name a few & now I know new ways to combine them. Why is Sally Bawa still “emerging” after 10years?
NUFFIN EXTRA ORDINARY ABT IT…. EVERYDAY OUTFIT. MY KIDS CAN PUT THIS COLLECTION TOGETHER
Something non-african, different, but looks great…
