MBGN 2005/Lagos State Environmental ambassador, Omowunmi Akinnifesi recently launched her website – www.omowunmiakinnifesi.com and blog - The Diva Diaries. The website and blog are an avenue for Omowunmi to connect with her fans and supporters.
One of the recent blog posts details Omowunmi’s 6 year ordeal with a stalker.
See excerpts below

My phone rang early January 2006 and it was the voice of a man, possibly in his late 30s or early 40s. His voice was coarse and suspicious. Innocently I said “Hello” and this marked the beginning of the terror. “Am I speaking to Omowunmi Akinnifesi?” he asked. “Yes” I replied without a hint of fear. “How are you?” He asked again. “I am fine thank you. Whom am I speaking to?” I asked. “This is…… “I admire you and I think you are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. You are charming and extremely sexy” how can I meet you? I know you like Oprah Winfrey. I can introduce you to her, she is a very good friend” he said.

From that first call, the stalking intensified and has continued till date. According to Omowunmi, there are days when he has called her phone over 30 times! It may seem funny but such experiences are actually traumatizing. We hope with the SIM registration in Nigeria, phone stalkers can be apprehended and charged with harrassment.

In other news, Omowunmi recently met the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Orelope Adefulire. The office of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State and Omowunmi are currently planning a collaborative initiative focused on women empowerment in Lagos State.

      • Lolz August 30, 2011 at 11:06 PM

People are attached to their numbers hun. It’s stress giving out a new number to everyone on your contact list plus would she now be changing sims because of one person? What if he gets the new number?

The lies we all tell ourselves to feel important. sad thing is we start to believe these lies when it goes on for so long nd we can’t even tell facts from fiction. Genevivie, a legit and accomplished celeb, then must have 200 stalkers cos praytell, what has omowounmi done besides appear cute and dressed up at every event? Even Nike Osinowo, her grandmama no get 6 years stalker let alone this one.

      • Lala August 30, 2011 at 11:04 PM

So because Genevieve and Nike haven’t had stalkers, she can’t have one. Even ordinary pretty girls have stalkers. It’s about the personality of the people that find u attractive so please face front.

      • senoritta August 31, 2011 at 9:25 PM

I’m not a celebrity but I had the experience of a stalker……The Guy kept calling me speaking gibberish….there are times he would call and not say anything. I must say its not a good one.
Couldn’t change my number cos I ve had it for years and wasn’t sure if the person would not get the new one. Thank God I ve been ‘free’ from the sicko since I left naija n I dont ve to use d one. I pray he won’t resume wen I get back sha.

      • Africangal August 31, 2011 at 9:49 PM

I am no celebrity.Yet I was stalked by a man for 2years.I eventually found out his identity and took the case to the police. He was detained and squarely dealt with. The world is full of sick people.

Don’t want to judge or anything, but it does sound very silly.

    • Fairy GodSister August 30, 2011 at 7:03 PM

If we had just heard that she’d launched a website and blog and then of course the initiative she’s GOING TO work on with the Lagos State Government, it would have been more ‘don’t-have-a-word-for-it’ than telling us she’s been stalked for 6 years. I’m sorry but that’s how I feel.

      yawn

    • nnenna August 30, 2011 at 10:36 PM

@ sett…you are an illiterate?…stalking has nothing to do with celebrity status.
I have been stalked. Nobody knows me. But this young man had harassed me via fone and even showed up @ my family house. It became a police case. And yes I changed my nimber and NO it did not stop.
You think everyone walking on the streets has their head intact abi?
I’m not a fan of omowunmi but I know these things happen because I’ve been a victim so shut up and pray it doesn’t happen to you or someone you know…

      • On point! August 31, 2011 at 10:00 AM

Tanx for explaining to dese folks…

    • RealAfricanPrincess August 30, 2011 at 11:53 PM

I’m sorry I find her initiative Fake. She is very full of herself, this is one girl I KNOW that loves PUBLICITY. *turns Head* She shouldn’t even be on BN.

    • Trump August 31, 2011 at 6:47 AM

Wow who in this world goes about calling themselves a ‘diva’? It has a negative connotation and sounds really weird. And to connect with her ‘fans’? That is bad branding right there, was it Bella’s words or hers? I’m sure there is a word that is less… condescending. I feel that the girl seems intelligent but either 1-all this beauty thing is getting to her brain and making her head big or 2-her publicist doesn’t know how to brand her. Unfortunate either way and I hope for her that she corrects it soon. @Yomawarrior I think this is what anon means, it does sound silly to wake up to this when you expected some quality content. Sorry to hear she got stalked, but she put in the plug of the guy’s age (eww, old) and what he said (I am soooo beautiful).

      Next.

And the web site link she put doesn’t work.

    • Joy August 31, 2011 at 12:54 PM

Seriously Nigerians???!!! When will we ever stop being negative. One person or another always has to say something grotesque about someone elseor their work. This pertains to almost every blog on BN. We never see the good in what is being presented. Alot of we females have insecurities & would like to be in the shoes of the various characters (& works) shared on BN. It seems to be that a curse has been placed on us. It seemd imperative that we do not to support our brethren. Plz support ur people. I’m not saying don’t express ur opinions, just do it like adults. Name callings are not necessary. People from other nations support their people. How many of you people who have given bad comment have a blog or a website. You talk about things you don’t know like you were there when it happened. If you think it is that easy to get where these people are just go ahead & get there. You haters just wish so much that you are the center of all the attention. With such attitude, you will be a center of no or negative attention. Let us be complacent with that which we are and which we have and praise other people for their work. This isn’t to say don’t aspire to be great in life. All I’m saying is be good to yourselves and fellow Nigerians.THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH OMOWUNMI. I have just about had it. Open other blogs from BN & see what I mean. Even things that need no comment end up being bad mouthed.

It means mind ur own business

    • ignoranceisadisease... September 2, 2011 at 4:42 PM

the things people spew! it rly does not kill to empathise with someone who says she has been traumatised. gosh, tis hard to believe some dont know that tis not only an over achiever or a celebrity that can be stalked by a psycho. Lastly, she has a stalker, so we must immediately think up other ‘stars’ who have earned more rights to claim they have stalkers??? everything does not av to be a competition ppl, or more aptly, ladies! *long suffering sigh

    • Ginika September 3, 2011 at 4:19 AM

Goodness gracious! What is happening?! This negativity is happening more often than usual. Na wa ooo. Having a stalker has got nothing to do with ur status. Is it because Genny has not come out to say she has a stalker?!

      Whatever – anyways, good initiative.
