You’ve heard the audio, now you can check out the video!
Just before they blazed up the stage at the Koko Koncert, the Mo’Hits family were on the Tim Westwood Show on BBC’s 1xtra.

Wande Coal totally impressed us! His vocal delivery was on point (Wande, when is the new album coming out?). Dr. SID delivered and D’Prince faltered a bit in the beginning but he came back and rocked it when he reverted to pidgin. D’banj? D’banj was just flowing with confidence. Swag!

Please don’t crucify me for saying this, but are we Nigerians living in a music bubble? I’ve always felt that the best thing about Nigerian music are the beats & melodies. We got good rythm, hence good producers and musicians. That’s the reason our music goes down well in clubs. However, the singing and the lyrics are awful! Most of our singers don’t deserve the beats that they get. Their songs are so heavily auto tuned to the extent that when they do live performances they sound like a totally different person (Wizkid, bless his cotton socks, is a typical example). The freestyle on Tim Westwood’s was a big mistake, because our wonderful 9ja beats were removed and so their singing/rapping was naked and woeful. A lot of non-Nigerian follow Tim Westwood on youtube and they gave thier honest opinions and it wasn’t good. I’ve never come across a video with so many dislikes! Are we being too generous and accomodation to our musicians?

Guy/Girl you be correct person abeg…this is very hard to watch, it’s a big disgrace, I have always been saying we need to improve on our lyrics, get songwriters into the mix, we are riding on our melodies and rhythm a whole lot… I disagree with you on Wizkid tho (solely based on the videos I have seen of his live performances), Yes his album was autotuned a lot, and you get the incessant, yeah yeah yeah, but strip that away and there are meaningful lyrics (eg. Love My Baby, Slow Whine, Oluwa lo ni, EME boyz – a hooked song, still makes sense) I credit it to his association with Banky. Wizkid carries his songs live with good enough vocals, not cd tracks with miming, you actually hear his voice and real instruments/bg vocals.

But really I am done talking about it, I’m looking to do something about it, and Bellanaija would get the scoop when it’s ready *wink*

I agree, except with the Wizkid example. You’re right that he’s very autotuned and does sound different live, but at least live you can hear his voice well above the backtrack and he doesnt do a bad job(i was pleasantly surprised!) even if he “adlibs”, compared to the rest of them that dont have any projection at all above the backtracks they perform to.

I really did not like any of the singing. Not every artist can truly freestyle, or maybe it was just not the best days for them. Wande started with a lot of mumbling.. I didnt understand the rhythm D’prince came with. Now for Dr. SID, even tho he came with a certain flow, its got nothing to do with his style on a good day. he just tried to adjust to the beat. Crazy thing was that they all made little sense. At some point D’prince even mentioned WC, just so it will rhyme, and there was no reason for that. Just when D’prince was kicking it, den d most disappointing act came in, excusable cos its D’Banj (so we blame it on entertainment). Men, I cant make me get to the end of this video…

I agree with BN’s in house review except for that lyrical retard D’Prince, abegi, dt moron should go get imself some 9-5 cuz he’s so wack and he wasn’t even freestyling; dt rap was what he put on the ‘noni’ track by samklef. as for dbanj, omo u would make a very good gbogbo elere . WC ori epe jor, SID, thumbs. D’prince go mop floor!!

    • Omiiiii September 13, 2011 at 2:14 PM

Thumbs up WC n SID you guyz made us proud! especially my hommie WC, trust me you are so on point!!! seriously no beef for Dbanj but u il agree that freestyling is not ur thing! and like u said, u re an entertainer and not really a singer! and as for Omoba, i feel so sorry…..plus he was freestyling on old lyrics..gooooooooooooooooooosh.

    • bebeto September 13, 2011 at 2:42 PM

    • Phat September 15, 2011 at 12:14 PM

DR SID and Wande coal r the only ones that pulled it off in my opinion

    • bang September 21, 2011 at 11:21 PM

why the hell is dprice a celeb??????

    • Tyrese December 14, 2011 at 11:42 AM

Dr Sid an Wande Coal were the only ones that pulled it off…..as for Prince (never liked his singing anyways) and D’BANJ…omo, them match line, them no try @ all. its high time some of us started writing some real, meaningful lyrics for these guys….it really makes me wonder how many times the likes of Prince and D’banj have to go over a verse in the studio to make it at least “Autotuneable”….Its shameful, to think that we parade them as one of Naija’s best. Thats why till tomorrow TUFACE IDIBIA a.k.a Tubaba is still the best Naija has ever produced.
