ARISE Made in Africa – Spring 2012: Lanre DaSilva-Ajayi presents “Labour of Love”

Ok, let’s get this out of the way. Yes, designer Lanre DaSilva-Ajayi fell as she came to deliver her bow after her Spring 2012 collection, “Labour of Love” showed at the ARISE Made in Africa Spring 2012 Collective Show in New York. The moment was a major talking point, it only enhanced the buzz surrounding LDA’s collection.
Inspired by her recent tour of Tuscany, LDA delivered an eclectic collection which transitioned from colourful butterfly-esque dresses to lace separates in colour and then in black, white and grey and finally classic LDA, the dramatic soft-pink and white pieces with bold lace cutout detailing and structured appeal. Accessories also played a major part in this collection as most of the pieces were styled with colourful statement necklaces and/or the signature LDA applique bib detail. It was a triumphant Mercedes Benz Fashion Week debut for the label.

The best of all the collections I’ve seen. Fabrics, textures, all fab. Might be a bit too much going on in some though, but pretty much wearable together or as separates. Pleasantly suprised.
