Love’s Wonderland: Geri Udeh & Wole Ogundipe Wed

By BellaNaija.com

A romantic proposal in Rome set the tone for Geri Udeh and Wole Ogundipe‘s beautiful wedding on the 25th of June 2011. Geri and Wole’s journey to the aisle started in May 2009 when they met at a mutual friend’s birthday party in London. Though they didn’t say much to each other that day, that meeting planted the seed which bloomed into a loving relationship and now, a blissful marriage.

A few after they first met, as fate would have it, they met again…the rest is beautiful history.

Wole plotted his proposal to his love, Geri for months! He whisked her off to Rome for the August Bank Holiday weekend. After a day of sightseeing, they decided to chill out before having dinner. While Geri was relaxing and savouring the memories of their fun day, Wole had bigger plans! Out of the blue, he gave Geri a kiss and promised her that “this will be a day you will always remember“, suddenly, he was on bended knee with an open ring box asking her to be his wife…she said “Yes!

On the 23rd of June 2011, Geri and Wole celebrated their traditional wedding at her parent’s residence in Abuja.  Their traditional wedding was a beautiful melange of culture – Geri’s Delta cultural heritage and Wole’s Yoruba culture. The colours of the day were red, yellow and silver, this shone through all around from aso-ebi to the bride and groom’s traditional attires. This wonderful day was an apt preamble to Geri and Wole’s glamorous white wedding.

On Saturday, 25th of June 2011, Geri walked down the aisle of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Abuja accompanied by her father. She was a glowing and simply beautiful bride in her embellished tiered tulle wedding dress by Elie Saab. Her stunning gown was accentuated by a whimsical bow, accessorized with diamond earrings, a bedazzled hairpiece and a dreamy chapel length veil. Wole was a dapper groom in his three-piece suit complemented by an ivory boutonnière. In the presence of their family and friends, Geri and Wole said “I Do” and exchanged rings symbolizing their love and commitment to each other.

After the ceremony, the happy occasion transitioned to the ThisDay Dome which had been transformed into a romantic and glamorous space filled with flowers, gold and champagne-hued swaths and fairy lights. Geri and Wole’s wedding reception was filled with love and lots of happy moments. From the romantic first dance to the groom’s playful garter toss and then Geri helped set the tone of the reception when she swapped her wedding dress for a fabulous ’50s style frock. From then on, it was all about fun and lots of joyful laughter!

BN wishes Geri and Wole a blissful and blessed life together as one. May each day be filled with God’s joy and love.

    • tumi's September 21, 2011 at 10:33 AM

Ezi people from Aniocha North in Delta State representing. Na so all dem Ezi & Obonkpa people get fine nose

      • Nneka September 21, 2011 at 3:34 PM

Thank you! The bride’s family is certainly from Aniocha, ,my mother’s people!

@ Abies…this is Edo, but Delta. People tend to think only Edo people wear the coral headgear and all. Don’t forget Edo and Delta were once one state: BENDEL. They have similar cultures, especially in traditional attires. However, that Akwa Ocha (the white cloth) the bride has on is from Delta straight up! :)

        • Nneka September 21, 2011 at 3:50 PM

          * NOT Edo but Delta…
I particularly love the way the cake table was dressed. tres cute.
I have to say that this their Udeh nose is one in town o…will give an eagle a run for it’s…lol. I like. I was just thinking that the bride’s mum looked familiar until I noticed Uncle “Didi Museum” Jibunoh :)
          Congrats to Geri and Wole.

    • aty September 21, 2011 at 10:47 AM

      this is a WHAO wedding

    • pendo September 21, 2011 at 10:49 AM

Now that’s the kinda cake i want for my wedding! absloutely beautiful wedding may God bless their marriage.
Awwww she is clearly a daddy’s girl and he is one proud dad….The picture of her and her dad on the couch is priceless!!! few questions for BN readers:
      1. is it a requirement in Naija churches to cover your shoulders i have noticed that almost all church brides in Naija have a bolero on and i like that she chose to have straps instead.
      2. if it is a requirement would the church/pastor expect you to cover your shoulders if the church ceremony was in a venue other than a church building e.g. garden wedding etc?
      3. and if it indeed is a requirement it doesn’t really make sense to have a bolero on but your cleavage is in the pastors’ face (just saying) i have seen some covered up brides with serious cleavage on display!

Ipads at a wedding na wah oh!!!

Beautiful ceremony they are gonna have some good looking babies…..

      • BellaNaija.com September 21, 2011 at 10:52 AM

Yes, majority of Nigerian churches have rules against strapless dresses. Some are stricter than others and request to see dresses before weddings. For non-church weddings, the rules are relaxed, though it depends on the clergyperson conducting the ceremony.
        Hope that helps :)

        • majo September 21, 2011 at 2:57 PM

i’ve wondered the same thing myself!

      • Delia September 21, 2011 at 11:07 AM

Yes o! Mr Udeh does not play with his girls! LOL

      • sisi September 21, 2011 at 11:17 AM

        ipad……i fear… ko easy….lol

      • sanni October 2, 2011 at 3:22 PM

This wedding was incredible, especially the red the bride wore. They are indeed a beautiful couple.
Regarding covering the shoulders, a woman’s shoulders should be covered when inside a church. It doesn’t matter which country we are in. I’m in the US and have known/observed this all of my life. I agree that what good is covering the shoulders if the cleavage is right in the ministers face? There are times that modesty is proper and should be observed. I don’t think times have changed that much.

The couple are looking good. What matters most in marriages is the connection between both parties and not the outward appearance. From my human eye, I think that connection is there and Wole make I warn you well well, if you raise an arm on my sister, na full squad US army I go take invade your home oh. Treat her like a queen for the rest of your life and you will never regret marrying her. Always remember to open can doors for her and take breakfast to her bed before you go to work. may God bless your union in Jesus name, AMEN.

I’m just seeing this wedding. The bride has gorgeousness written all over her. The groom is just too handsome. Let me start from her traditional wear, she looks like a queen, such a pretty face. The decor, color combination is just perfect. Not overdone, simple, elegant and beautiful.
This is nothing new. Yoruba men marrying Edo/Delta women.
Infact, I’ve seen so many that I don’t even notice it anymore. I have four immediate uncles who married Edo women and I love, love them. I didn’t even know they were from Edo or Delta because they speak yoruba more than omo yoruba sef. Beautiful couple. May God continue to bless their marriage.
