BN Exclusive: Genevieve Nnaji rocks Dolce & Gabbana, meets Christian Louboutin & hangs out with Rosario Dawson at the 6th Annual Raisa Gorbachev Foundation Gala

Over the last few months, we’ve spotted Nigerian star Genevieve Nnaji rocking various fabulous pairs of shoes by Christian Louboutin. In September 2011, Genevieve attended the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation Gala, an annual event held by Patron Mikhail Gorbachevat the beautiful Stud House, Hampton Court in the UK. The event was brimming with stars including Stephen Fry, Sir Ben Kingsley, Anna Friel, Rosario Dawson and Gene’s favourite shoe designer Christian Louboutin.
The white-tie Raisa Gorbachev Foundation Gala charity event was set up in 2006 by Mikhail Gorbachev in memory of the former Soviet president’s wife who died from leukaemia in 1999. The purpose of the event is to raise money for the battle against childhood cancer. Over the years, the foundation has raised millions for the cause.
The Pet Shop Boys sang after the dinner and fashion designer Vanessa G gave a sculpture to be auctioned alongside works donated by Antony Gormley, Sir Peter Blake & a neon sculpture by Tracey Emin which raised £70,000.
More than £1.1million was raised at the charity event. The evening was co-hosted by Evgeny Lebedev and Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter.
Genevieve also donated towards the cause as she bid and won one of auction lots on the night. She was dressed in a stunning floor-length scarlet A/W 2011 gown designed by Dolce & Gabbana. The Italian designers dressed her especially for the event and the gown was accessorized with a Dolce & Gabbana leopard print beaded clutch.

Genny is an absolutely stunning girl and you can even say that she is bigger than Rosario Dawson (if you compare achievements and worldwide relevance).
HOWEVER, compare how much better Rosario looks to Genevieve. For all we know, Rosario may be wearing a ZARA dress (not that she is) but she looks wayyy more refined than Genevieve in Dolce & Gabbana!
Her body is CONSISTENTLY in shape while Genny is hit or miss. And certainly a miss here. Look at her tummy, when it’s not like she’s had a baby in a while. Look at her heavy arms.
Her hair, complete mess. Rosario’s hair is most likely hers with some extra that COMPLIMENTS hers. Genny just looks like she’s trying to hide her hair. It’s just sub-par.
Rosario’s skin looks great because her makeup is welldone. Genny’s makeup looks incongruent and just messy. REFINEMENT is what Nollywood needs!
The reason Hollywood women are taken seriously as stars is because they LOOK the part. Genny just looks like an average guest and we know she’s not! Nigerian stars need to work out, eat well and trim all those ‘excess’ fat that we call ‘body’. It’s nonsense. Look like an absolute goddess. There’s nothing wrong with that. Stop lagging behind the world and blaming it on Africa. If you can’t do it, pay a team who will!
it is mentality like your own that causes anorexia and body image issues in confused young ladies. how you can look at a radiant, healthy looking female like genevieve and write what you just did is beyond me.
what is the relevance of comparing her to the rosario dawson? none of your comparisons seem valid enough, it’s like comparing peas and carrots. like saying “look at that silly carrot, instead of it to be as green and round as the pea, look at the unhealthy orange colour it went to take. and it’s so shapeless in comparison to the perfect round pea.”
genevieve and rosario are two different women, of different socio-economic contexts and of different body types. they both look very healthy, and there is no reason why one should try to attain anything of the other. if truth be told, after reading what you typed, i had to have a double take at the pics to make sure the rosario you are comparing genevieve to is the same one i saw in the pictures, because quite frankly, i think genevieve looks better than rosario, but that’s a subjective opinion, i guess.
now to the issue of genevieve having “heavy arms” and a tummy. are you kidding me? so what is wrong with having a bit of weight? must everybody be stick-skinny? this genevieve i can see in the picture obviously looks healthy, why must everyone confirm to the weszt’s idea of beauty? so people who exercise and still are not able to lose weight should now do what? my dear, being skinny is not the goal. the goal is to be healthy.
you and other people who think like this need to re-orientate the way you think. learn to see beyond the superficial and create a model of what is acceptable and right for yourself and not what you have been hypnotized to believe by the pages of a magazine

I don’t think Genevieve looks bad but I agree with you that she doesn’t stand out beside Rosario who is not a big star as Genevieve. I follow Genevieve and the chick talks about working out. The problem may not be her weight (I think her body looks good. She may want to tone up if she so desires) but with the way she presents herself. In all honesty, Genevieve’s hair and make up hardly ever look nice. She does the same type of make up all the time and someone of her status shouldn’t be wearing this type of makeup. I have noticed that this make up sometimes makes her look tired. She definitely needs a good team of personal stylists to help her out. The fact that she is not just sitting in Africa shows that she wants to be internationally known. She is a talented actress, but there are other talented actresses too. Hollywood is also about the image and I feel she has to stand out in that department.

To be honest, you cannot force someone to be something they are not. Angelina has a humanitarian spirit, that’s part of her makeup. I totally agree with you but Tyler Perry ain’t checking for Africans! His movies are about the lives, times and experiences of African AMERICANS, not Africans at home or in the diaspora unless that African can sling some ebonics or speak with an American accent. I doubt that he would be hiring Genevieve for any of his projects, besides he appears to work solely with actors with name/face recognition because he wants butts in theater seats. But yes, she needs to get like Ene Oloja and start doing serious films with serious impact like Viva Riva, Brave One, Skin, Hotel Rwanda, Blood Diamond – movies that will challenge her, movies that if they aren’t just telling African stories but they have a mix of characters that are African and Non-Africans like the upcoming feature Ties that Bind that the ChichiLuv person mentioned in my quoted posting. She needs to do something new and different to continuously set herself apart from the rest of the pack, attending parties and being photographed with Noami Campbell, Dolce & Gabanna, Rosario Dawson is not a solid career move; all that says is “I am now travelling in a different social strata”. She doesn’t have to cross to Hollywood but she certainly has enough money and clout to option a novel/book, hire a screen writer to write something deep, strong and like I said earlier impactful, hire a solid producer/director/crew to shoot it instead of still doing soap opera drivel like Felicima, Love My Way, Silent Scandal. The last decent, watchable movie that she didn’t look bored and lost in was probably Letters to a Stranger.
If Genevieve Nnaji is not careful, she will soon become more of a public figure/personality/socialite than an actress. She is certainly capable of a lot more.

She looks nice. Her makeup needs to be more flawless. Her forehead always looks greasy. I can tell she lost about 5 pounds to fit into the dress. With black women, I dont care how much weight we lose, we will always appear rounder and more plump than white women. Thats the way god made us and we look good with our extra body fat. Overall, she looks good.

who is this ikeepit…… blah blah blah, try to be constructive with your criticism, morover the only thing wrong with Gene sincerely is her make up, which she can do better, but as far as I’m concerned she looks beautiful and natural and I will choose her over Rosario, whom I had to think twice before remembering anyway, and she acts tom-boy in most of her films. about Gene’s hair, guys are we loking at the same pix?

i think she looks very well put together…she has had more interesting looks granted but this just means her stylist needs to up her game some more cos genny is definitely covering more ground.

Even if she’s going to work with Nigerian directors, she needs to start working with ones like Jeta Amata who are bring trying to do something beyond the usual Nollywood soap opera love story etc.
All this PR is great, flitting from one party to another in London and everywhere BUT are you networking Gennie? Or are you just collecting appearance fees like Kim Kardashian without thinking about how all those appearances can PUSH YOUR CAREER TO THAT NEXT LEVEL. She has worked hard at carving an “I AM A STAR” image from what we see in this picture, the next thing is putting down the kind of work that supports that image.
I’m not a fan of Genevieve but I think she looks nice. Why would she need to tone and stuff when she’s already skinny? Most Nigerian women are way bigger than her! And just for the record, attending fancy parties in the UK does not mean that she is living a full life.
