Africa Fashion Week 2011: Maki Oh

This is my best collection from Maki-Oh so far! With this collection, the brand remains worthy of its deserved praise amongst fashion enthusiasts. The “mise-en-scene” of the S/S 12 collection is articulated in precise and clean finishing. Structured cuts and silhouettes, geometric prints and patterns, a mix of sheer and velvet fabrics give the collection its appeal. I love how she works with textures. In presenting body conscious and more fluid silhouettes she plays into the rhetoric of a refined, artistic construction with the woman as the body of work.

That’s what camisoles are for biko. Don’t u wear chiffon?
I find it problematic that she’s using traditional Japanese prints. The design of the last dress and the black shorts are a traditional Japanese print that’s at least five hundred years old.
I often complain about westerners appropriating Nigerian culture but here’s a Nigerian appropriating Japanese culture without crediting and it is NOT cool.
I think you’re going out of your way to make an issue out of nothing. Ankara, for instance, isn’t even originally Nigerian. Are designers/creatives no longer allowed to get inspiration from other cultures? Don’t you imitate the japanese anime style in your drawings? confused_dot_com.
Even if she did hows she supposed to credit, have the girls carry a sign saying thanks Japan on the runway, because you do realize this is Ijeoma’s write up and not the designer’s press release on the collection.
these dresses ain’t wearable and who is this designer ?
These pieces are not wearable , how did she win emerging designer of the year ! gosh my eyes …
It is a fashion show o. not a collection! & she never claimed they were wearable straight off the runway, you’d most likely have to adapt it, not unless you are Lady Gaga
I especially love the long print dress, it looks like it’s made from adire. That would look gorge with braided shuku and super winged eyeliner and nice strong brows *sighs*.
