Posted on Friday, November 25th, 2011 at 3:39 PMBy Glory Edozien
We are absolutely, positively excited to bring you our very first BellaNaija.com video interview.
Here at BN we are always seeking to bring new, exciting content to our readers in the freshest, most creative way possible.
Ever since Tiwa Savage first appeared on our screens, her publicity buzz has been undeniable. From sold-out shows, to controversial videos, energetic performances and amazing red carpet appearances; Tiwa Savage has made a strong impact on the Nigerian music scene.
I met up with Tiwa Savage at the Cellar in Victoria Island on a rainy Saturday morning. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from the interview, but Tiwa surprised me on many counts. Talking to her was easy. Sometimes, I actually felt like I was chatting with an old friend over coffee. From talking about the growth of her musical career, her forthcoming album and of course the men….it became clear to me why many have dubbed her “Nigeria’s Sweetheart”!

yaaaay!!!first to cover
nice
nice one BN
Loved the interview. Tiwa is down to earth and just a beautiful person. Good on her! Interviewer says ‘like’ too much.
Tiwa says “really” too much
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! FUN
Tiwa is a gorgeous girl and her hair always looks great!
Good for you BN.
She’s gorg! Well done fusionme.tv! great editing
I actually really enjoyed the interview.. Love you Tiwa!
Ahh the hunt for THEAMAKA…im sure there will be fake ones now. Will the real THEAMAKA please stand up!
Yes… where is THEAMAKA??… I secretly miss her sha n her challenging comments….
I have a little confession….lol. Before this interview, i never really appreciated Tiwa savage but all that has changed now. I think this is the most sincere interview i have ever watched. You were open, you admitted the fact that you have some artist you look up to in the light of music as well as style and you were your self. It was fun listening to you and i expect great songs from you. Keep it up
Love you Tiwa
OMG,.,.,D INTERVIEWER,.,.”mnnhhhmmm mnnnhhhhmmm” kinda tooo much and distracting!!
lets see how well you can do
park well jare!
like like like, like, like ,like, . a reporter must speak properly…
wow….i have always liked tiwa savage but this interview brought a side of her i did not know…which i now LOVE. you go girl!
Sorry, I’m a bit confused. SO Tiwa said she wants to go into missionary work and helping young girls, but her songs are sexual so where’s God in that? I think all these artists need to really know the msg they are trying to pass down. U can sing an amazing song without selling sex and dressing provocativelt!!! and u will get ppl bumping to the tune! don’t come and be leading ppl astray.
@ anon abeg park well jo
exactly oo!
tiwa savage I LUV U….ur awesome.
I think Tiwa is pretty and she has a nice voice .However she sounds really ditzy and very confused about what she really wants to do with her music and this shows in her music videos. No originality. like she cant decide if she wants to be beyonce, kelly rowland, amerie or TIWA. Plus she tries to hard to be sexy. It’s quite a shame cos she’s goodlooking.
And what’s she talking about incoporating africa in her videos? besides the fact that she uses some yoruba and pidgin words in her songs, there’s nothing african/nigerian about her message or her videos. Not that she needs to be all african( she has a right to choose) but why the lie?
And what has God got to do with her message or her videos :§. Please keep it real and call a spade what it is. Leave God out of it cos somehow i doubt He’ll give you a pat on the back for exposing your boobs, the guy’s boner etc. If you’re going to be about God then be about Him and if you want to be about using your body and sexuality to sell your music, then be about it and admit it.
Lastly, being naked on your videos is not a sign of development and it’s not something Nigerians need to accept and emulate to prove to God knows who that we’ve finally arrived. We need to focus more on improving the sound and video quality and content of our audiovisual producction.
hmmm..u dey vex oh.
Of all the positive things about this interview, who she has worked with, the likes of babyface, monica, etc, being so honest and sincere, getting so far in x-factor, in just a year the amazing impact she has made as a female artist in a male dominated industry. all you spent your whole time on was your negative comment. you say we need to focus on improving, well you need to focus on being positive.
Tiwa you are a great songwriter, great singer, performer, you are beautiful inside and out and this interview shows that. It is very hard to find all these qualities in one artist. God bless your hardwork. We your real fans will always support you
I feel you
this just made me love tiwa more..very beautiful and cool chick.God bless you..
I really like her cos she is outspoken & telling it the way it is with herself. Now @ sassycassie she’s exposed she beein dere done it it and she know how it works and pls sassycassie do you know wat fashion defination is,she is just selling an outfit on a normal day you wont see her half naked on the road and to be sincere she isnt hypocritical in eerything she has said,Sassycassie u re just not exposed enough . she’s focusin herself to be sexy she’s working hard to be her best.sassycassie pls allow it man she’s just a kool girl. For the interviewer was gr8 she’s doesnt have a fake accent she’s ok.
i love love love Tiwa Savage!!! my love for her jst grew 4rm 100 to 1000!! keep doin wt u do.. haters will forever talk whether u r in d lime light or not!! u’ve inspired me to stick to my singing apart 4rm dis law degree and one day i shall return to my country nigeria to represent jst like u r!! i’m goin to start a Tiwa Savage fan blog!! hearts ya darl!! xoxoxoxoxo
OKAY! If I never liked Tiwa before, now I do! I love her. Down to earth, cool and so sweet. Watched the whole thing. Abeg, THE AMAKA, come and give Tiwa 10/10 please.
Aww!! Tiwa is so genuine, absolutely no airs! We love you girl!! Go Tiwa!!
@ THEAMAKA, you can like to come and validate Tiwa’s arrival o.
Really refreshing and interesting interview. It is a bit long though, I probably wouldn’t have watched it if it was someone else.
Tiwa hass talent, beauty and class. From the interview you can tell she is very humble for someone with such international success. To people saying she is all over the place with her music, if you listen to the interview she said ”she is still learning and growing and trying to find her ground”. Anyways I love her, and to me she is 10/10. Shikena
The interviewer mentioned “like” more than 40 times! Kilode? Please, go and learn the RP English and not this irritating “it was like”, “they were like”……. overall, it was really distracting.
Tiwa seems to know what she wants out of life.
Pretty girl but whats with the ‘really really /actually’ repetition?
I love tiwa savage….
she’s so down to earth..
Nice interview.Love your versatility BN.
Eh-yah! see haters!!! Lol! Thank God for the likes of you.
Being NAKED is actually very African! lol. And we shud emulate
Haters are actually the best motivators and the biggest fans.
If she gives God his props: that’s pretty friggin awesome! So, you coming on here and telling her to leave God out of it is NOT for you to say.
Tiwa is awesome! She’s beautiful and we love her.
Gbam! Exactly! We love Tiwa so haters go chop chicken.
Please let’s call a spade a spade, exposing your body on tv or in public for that matter is NOT a Godly thing to do. Though no one is perfect, we can’t serve God and mammon at the same time. Evangelism is not just about preaching, handing out bibles and charity work, WE are the only bibles some people will ever read. If you are a christian and interested in propagating the gospel, you have to be more aware of the message you send out to people in your surrroundings. It’s a beautiful thing if she wants to minister the gospel but she has to make sure she represents God in everything she does as much as she possibly can.
By the way I am in no way a hater, in fact I’m rather indifferent to her and her music. I’m just trying to expantiate on some earlier comments that have been attacked here.
I support you! 100% mehn!
Tiwa is one of my inspiration ! I LOVE HER SO MUCH ! She was so cool enough to put me in her Love me x3 Video !
I love, LOVE Tiwa. She’s got a great personality.
All you ppl writing novels as comments though..If you dont like her dont comment and if you do, appreciate her. YOU DONT HAVE TO CRITICIZE! Ha Ba! At least shes making her money. *Sigh* We Nigerians though
where’s THE AMAKA ooooo???? i’ve missed her
am indifferent about Tiwa, too much nakedness….and no,am not hating on her!just making a comment
Nice interview. Glory did a good job, Tiwa is amazing as always. She sooo…. down 2 earth. Haters should go hug transformers, like they can do any better….. mscheeewww. Well done girl!!!!
I know a guy who thinks Tiwa is proper fine; so much that he swore that if he ever married her, he would take her surname, have all day lie-ins with her, and change his name to Randy Savage. Na wa o…..http://woahnigeria.wordpress.com/2011/06/25/that-all-nigerian-girl/
lmao, thank you jare…being naked is very Africa. If the white man did not bring us clothes we would still be naked and enjoying ourselves now we are more prude than the people that brought us the clothes sef. She seems like a cool girl, very pretty and i like most of her songs.
Gloria could have sat down in a more poised manner!!!
I love the interviewer! Well composed, spoken and delivers the questions properly. I know this is a side point but very impressed with her!
i really enjoyed dis interview, dint xpect to njoy it dis much…plus iv neva really bin a big tiwa fan n not dat i disliked her but now i’m beginning to like her…
I like tiwa and I remember when she auditioned for X factor.. it was painful watching her leave cos we were excited she is nigerian and can sing(she is so much stronger from it)….
She is beautiful and she sounds so good and articulate (p.s. the interviewer can be so much better and a training would be a start) but all I can say is find urself and DO U but do things you will look back in five years and be proud of…
You are a role model now and the pressure is on.
God will help you and empower you to continue to learn and be BETTER….
WE do not need any shakria, beyonce, any artists…. We NEED YOU TO BE YOU.
Thank you so much for being HONEST and dealing with the criticism….
I actually found myself laughing a lot cos some parts of the interview was so funny.I love Tiwa, she is just sooo real. I also love the way the interviewer tried to bring words out of Tiwa. And to u’all HATERS, try and find a way to impact on your environment as well rather than hating all the time and always seeing the negative in everything. Tiwa is a hardworking girl who is bringing in her wealth of international experience and raw talent and so she deserves to be successful. One big message for the day though was NEVER GIVE UP..
it was good, it was good, it was goooooooooooood.
love me some tiwa savage.
humble, pretty, down to earth.
love when she talks bout guys who didn’t give her a second look before are now talking to her, shes gorgeous though so im not surprised.
@ Sassiecassie: I totally agree with you. Tiwa is beautiful and has a great voice; she doesn’t need to use all that indecent exposure to sell. Especially for someone from a strong christian background. Please you don’t need to compromise on your values to sell music, your talent should speak for you. Besides she’s in her 30s, so can’t use sex to sell her music for long because eventually people will look for the next young girl with a better body.
I see myself chilling with Glory and Tiwa…my type of ladies.! Great interview
Tiwa is so fabulous!!! Great interview.
Dis Sassicassie, are u alrite at all?
U see someone from your country doing dis good and u ar there hating and beefing.
Wait wat av u acheived sef? Mscheeewwww!!!! Tiwa i love u jare, i enjoyed the interview, u ar so so real, tanx Bellanaija.
I’m Really, not really, really…..really, REALLY ? Tiwa
lovely interview..to all the haters, you can critique without being a bully..in the words of MI..”…walk down the road and go hug transformer”
Good editing? Hmm…Much of the interview could’ve been edited out. She spent an entirely too much time asking trying to force Tiwa to name who she would want to date. I’d hope it has nothing to do with this ridiculous pressure to get every girl of 23 and above married or in a relationship by force. An hour long interview that could’ve been whittled down to 20 minutes. So much more you could’ve delved into that would give more insight into the artist. Who would she like to work with in the business? More questions about her writing. She speaks about getting involved in missionary work so maybe getting her take on some of Naija policies may have been good. A good way to close out interviews is to ask the personality what he or she wants their legacy or lasting mark to be when their career is all said and done. Always works.
A bit of constructive criticism for the interviewer…as many have noted, Uhmmmms and likes mentioned too many times are no-nos in broadcast journalism. We actually just nod to what the interviewee says instead of saying uh huh. Also try not to look away from the camera. Part of being a professional is to not let the distractions not being captured by the camera affect your interview. Wherever your eyes go, your audience goes. I kept wondering what was happening back there that was more attention-grabbing than your subject.
Not a bad effort. It helps that Tiwa has a good on-camera presence.
love her…can u see the defference between tiwa and tonto’s interview?…
awwww i just love tiwa savage, really enjoyed the interview!!
I think Tiwa is beautiful, inside and out. Before you pass judgment and berate her with your own personal opinion, think about this, she’s human just like you. U probably couldn’t walk a day in her shoes even if you tried. So for all the Tiwa haters, i’ll say this, you may not like her but you have to respect her hustle.
been meaning to ask, Tiwa why do u sound like a doll, speak with authority, not like som1 that is trying so hard to hide an accent or the fast way they talk
Omg…she is a sweetheart
