By BellaNaija.com

In late October 2011, we posted information on Hot FM’s Hot Halloween Party (H2 Party).
There were mixed reviews – some felt it was another exciting event while others felt it was a surefire sign that Nigerian values were being eroded in favour of “western ideals”.

The event was successful with lots of celebrities and guests rocking a variety of interesting costumes.
Here is the official press release on the event and check out all the photos below.

Hot FM’s Hot Halloween Party (H2 Party) took place on the 29th of October 2011 at Aqua Night Club in Abuja. Denrele was on the red carpet to interview guests as they arrived.

The night was memorable as glamour and entertainment was added to the event by SamKlef, D’banj and Ikechukwu who grace the event with their presence and performance, P-Square was also in attendance.

The organizers of this event Hot 98.3 FM in conjunction with Yankee Entertainment have promised to make the next H2 Party Event even better so watch out for 2012’s H2 Party which promises to be bigger and better.

The team will also want to use this opportunity to thank all those who came through and made the event a success.

I no like Halloween for anything but e be like say e get people wey like am. If they want to have a good time during halloween, we shouldn’t condemn them. Afterall all of us wan celebrate xmas( oyibo man celebration) The only celebration I like in Nigeria and which I attend is New yam festival, masquerade festivals, and sometimes traditional marriage. I rarely attend white weddings. So if you wan condemn oyibo celebrations, condemn all of them, not just the ones wey no favour you.

        • u-jay December 17, 2011 at 12:26 PM

          lolz,r u serious @ only new yam festival? u cant b serious.na u indigenous pass

        • AmplifiedRoyalty January 23, 2012 at 2:24 PM

Christmas is’nt “oyibo man celebration”. It’s the celebration of the birth of THE CHRIST by people who believe in him.

      • tellingitasis December 18, 2011 at 7:19 PM

For real! such a mess with people looking like they are going for a carnival rather than a halloween party. The ‘costumes’ are horrible. This is what we get when we choose to copy-copy and never be original. The irony is, we cannot even copy right. From trying to copy yankee and jand accent to trying to celebrate halloween to giving our events french names that we can hardly pronounce as an english speaking country. It’s just shameful I tell ya.

        • Ginika January 17, 2012 at 9:49 AM

Well, as for me sha, all I know is that there are some real winches and wizards in their midst and I’m sure they were excited to show their true form like: “finally, I dont need to hide, lemme put on my midnight mami water costume, that we wear to that midnight mami water meeting”…. LOL. I’m joking ooo (well, sort of *sideeye)

      • diamond December 19, 2011 at 3:15 PM

them no too try. some just used masks on their face. they were supposed to copy a character. though some did a good job of it.

    • Zegzy December 16, 2011 at 4:56 PM

This is just sad of Nigerians – copycat will not kill us.

    • winnie December 16, 2011 at 4:59 PM

we dnt do halloween in naija so wetin be dis? wate of resources bella.

      • me December 16, 2011 at 5:29 PM

Halloween is a satanic practice. We have not finished dealing with the issues of people living in borderline poverty. Rather than in indulge in Godly and decent practices to liberate the nation, people are busy copying foreign values that don’t benefit. *smh* ignorance is indeed a disease

        • k.jay December 16, 2011 at 8:02 PM

I agree totally o! this is sick!

    • chychy December 16, 2011 at 4:59 PM

    • Edos December 16, 2011 at 5:08 PM

Absolute rubbish! No theme, just some dark face Nigerians wearing face masks!

      • Sassy December 16, 2011 at 7:52 PM

God bless you, i thought Halloween was all about costumes? A piece of mask on a regular outfit doesn’t count as one! Might i add, they all look extremely razzz!!!!

    • me December 16, 2011 at 5:09 PM

Nigerians!! we are never original…….and to think of it, it was such an overkill! halloween is strictly nothing serious, its about costume wearing and absolutely nothing dressy and there’s no fuss!. But us we will over copy and and add our over dressyness to it. Infact it didn’t look like halloween, it looked like a fashion competition. Naija! we too over dress

    • sweetie December 16, 2011 at 5:10 PM

      YAWNNN

    • Wahl December 16, 2011 at 5:11 PM

      What da! *Hiss*

    • murewa December 16, 2011 at 5:14 PM

This is not a Halloween party; it is a wear-a-mask party. So, Nigerian shouldn’t be so pissed. It looks like another normal party with a lots of masks on and occasional costume.

    • Ndidi December 16, 2011 at 5:15 PM

      @Zegzy -”Copycat?”
Pray tell what you think practising Christianity or speaking English is if not “copycat”?

BN- thank you for posting these pictures. The participants look like they had good, clean, harmless fun. People need to chill and stop being “religidiculous”.

      • auntie December 18, 2011 at 8:44 AM

abeg, chill with Christianity and English yarns jare, arent you glad you have both?
no dey go jand or yankee or any oyibo country na… shuo, we send u?… and start speaking your native tongue and then you can start talking “deep” about copycat-ing

    • fausia December 16, 2011 at 5:17 PM

Can’t believe this rubbish! Do they even know what Halloween is for. Same people will be at church on Sunday? :S

    • madman December 16, 2011 at 5:32 PM

When did Nigeria start copying the wanna be Americando culture….can’t we ever invent our own thing….copy, copy is too much. #SAD. I bet if you ask any of them there, they don’t know the history of halloween….. #ANNOYING. Know the history before you start copying.

    • tobi December 16, 2011 at 5:35 PM

    • MsT December 16, 2011 at 5:41 PM

Demonic and Satanic. STOP COPYING EVERYTHING OF THE WEST – Jeez.
I wont be surprised if eventualy Gay marriage is enacted in nigeria after all their current gra gra. Aftter all you copy everything they do, might as well ..

      • cheeky December 16, 2011 at 5:57 PM

……and you what? i was not suprised when i started hearing the gay marriage saga thingy fron naija, ‘cos about 2months ago common wealth leaders gathered in the UK and i watched a BBC programme where interviewer was advising the prime minster that the countries that refuse to accept gay mrriage could face being stopped from recieving aides and alms giving from the UK. Rubbish!! At the rate of our copy copy, It won’t suprise me if Nigeria eventually succumbs :-(

    • Mtschewwww December 16, 2011 at 5:44 PM

Absolutely nonsense and i dont respect any body in these photos who participated. Alex am kinda dissapointed in you cos we talk a lot about God and just for photo op you participate to this nonsense. As for UTI i understand cos dude will do anything for a camera shot

      • smh December 16, 2011 at 6:09 PM

UTI will indeed do any thing for camera shots, and I’m begining to believe you. I am very dissapointed ‘cos he looks better than that. Anyway that is what happens when people become famous out of winning a prize. I hope the fame isn’t going away that he has to now do anything to stay noticed.

    • Timma December 16, 2011 at 6:08 PM

Some costumes were not just it, but at least it was an effort

    • Janice December 16, 2011 at 6:40 PM

Total garbage! In a country where Religious values hold such high esteem, I’m disappointed such rubbish has now filtered into the country. Practising Chrsitians and Muslims should look up the meaning of Halloween and think very carefully before attending such parties! Nigeria is a nation that could be so great, we will not reach that potential by copying such useless traditions from overseas!

    • J-Jangles December 16, 2011 at 6:48 PM

      Rubish…….Nexxxxxxxxxtttt

    • Anonymous December 16, 2011 at 6:52 PM

Why can’t Nigerians just wake up from their short-sighted slumber? A bunch of peops just went out on October 29 2011 to catch some fun in funny costumes! It’s obvious they had loads of fun judging from the pictures above. Nobody was forced at gun point to attend. So, people should stop belly-aching over how others chose to catch their fun. If you don’t believe in Halloween, that’s your headache not theirs. Nuff said!

      • On point! December 16, 2011 at 7:28 PM

I tire oh?! I was too weak to even comment! Tanx for taking d words right outta ma mouf! LIVE AND LET LIVE PPL!!!

      • Yinda1 December 17, 2011 at 2:18 AM

@ Anonymous, Have you seen or heard that any western countries are celebrating Eyo festival or any other African festival/culture? Absolutely not, this has nothing to do with that terminology you stated ”Catching fun” but Halloween is not a Nigerian festival or culture. Even if they chose to celebrate Halloween who are my to stop them from ”Catching fun” (using your terminology again) but at least they should do it right. Instead of looking like side show ”freaks”.

        • oro December 31, 2011 at 2:09 AM

    • genuine December 16, 2011 at 8:21 PM

lol@these comments. If I was in Nigeria, I would have went all dressed up too. u mad? I am kinda disappointed with the costumes. Many of them were just wearing masks. How is wearing masks a Halloween costume? I some nice ones, but none of them blew me away. Next year, step up your costume game. I want to see some good costumes

    • debs December 16, 2011 at 8:29 PM

Honestly some people dont have work….SMH. Why not organise a costume charity ball for the homeless children!!!!

      • Tayo December 17, 2011 at 8:41 PM

Why bother with the ball? Why not give them the ball money instead? Anyway, some of you should quit with the holier-than-thou attitude. It’s funny how these same people come here to rave about beauty pageants and drivel on about the catwalk and who’s wearing what. Folks, if people want to organize Halloween party, what’s your business? If they invite you, don’t go!

      • Purpleiciousbabe December 19, 2011 at 4:55 AM

        Ur comment deserved an applaud….

    • Zara December 16, 2011 at 8:54 PM

    • Anony December 16, 2011 at 9:06 PM

Awesome and Nice!!! The next one should be in Lagos, PH, Kano, “Borno, Yobe”, and Ibadan!!! To those who r bitching about it………if u cant take the heat……..U know where to go!

    • Yinda1 December 16, 2011 at 9:48 PM

Some Nigerians are extremely clueless. Celebrating Halloween? To make matters worse, they are all dressed like attendees of a carnival show. Before you know it now, thanksgiving holiday will also be celebrated in Nigeria, as a matter of fact some folks living in Nigeria were wishing everyone happy thanksgiving day on Facebook. Only if they knew the history behind thanksgiving they won’t open their mouths. Would a white man celebrate Eyo festival? Abosolutely not, get it together folks.

    • titi December 16, 2011 at 9:53 PM

    • fabulous_guy December 17, 2011 at 1:28 AM

To start with, is it halloween or just a costume party with ridic costumes? I knw they had fun, bt…..seriously? Scariest fotos?……dry. Meanwile denrele doesn’t need a costume, cos he is like halloween itself. And as for that aproko pesin, what is wrong with gay marriage? People should decide who they want to marry shikena……remember that gay rights are also human rights

    • Mr. Jones December 17, 2011 at 3:16 AM

    • NNENNE December 17, 2011 at 4:04 AM

Fellow Nigerians, what have we done with our brain and our ability to reason? The white man came and destroyed all our culture (good and bad), went home to practise halloween. What did we do? We follow him to do same.Follow, follow na im go kill us.
Sometimes it is good to copy but we should always copy reasonably…

    • NNENNE December 17, 2011 at 4:17 AM

Halloween is a festival that has bearing with witches. Instead of halloween lets go back to Amadioha, Orishe, sango, etc, and celebrate them. Our ancestors will at least be happy with us for following their foot steps.

      • Ikenna11 December 19, 2011 at 12:10 AM

NNE, you have won my heart.

    • fabulous_guy December 17, 2011 at 5:51 AM

    • deedee December 17, 2011 at 6:09 AM
