By Damilare Aiki

When creative director - Oroma Cookey-Gam of budding new fashion brand – Alali Boutique was chosen as a finalist for the 2011 MTN Lagos Fashion & Design Week  ”Young Designer of the Year”, she showcased some of her best and most creative pieces to debut her brand as one that is here to stay in the Nigerian Fashion Industry for good.

Now, Oroma proudly presents Alali Boutique’s Pre-Fall 2013 collection – “Colour Me Pretty”. Staying true to Alali Boutique’s signature style, the collection is made up of airy, floaty pieces in compelling prints and lush fabrics. It features pieces for all occasions in vibrant colours and a pale pretty pink. While colour palettes around the world tend to get paler during this time of the year, “Colour Me Pretty” stands to celebrate Nigeria’s tropical climate and the beauty of our year-long summer season! Stocks are limited and also available in alternative prints!

I love the easy-wear thing going on.. But when you do such, at least your photography shd pop! It just comes off as amateur

2013 is just next yr, u know???

Everybody wants to talk without research … Sad

Personally the designs are not to my taste. Why call it pre-fall collection and then state ““Colour Me Pretty” stands to celebrate Nigeria’s tropical climate and the beauty of our year-long summer season”. Nigeria does not have fall season, besides fall and summer are different season. I’m hoping the 2013 is a typo as it does not make sens to release a collection a year and a half in advacne.

      • Damilare Aiki February 9, 2012 at 12:02 PM

Dear Jeye, It is not a typo. It is the Pre-fall 2013 collection by Alali Boutique

      • BubblyBliss February 9, 2012 at 8:54 PM

Jeye darling, why so angry?! The term ‘fall/pre-fall’ is not unique to Alali Boutique. You’ve never called out JBL, LDS, Tiffany Amber and the rest for using this same term so….! Designers have an international audience to cater to and therefore use a uniform system for labelling collections. Fashion collections worldwide follow a calendar and that’s the spring/summer and autumn/winter or fall collections and collections are released a season ahead. So you’re right on that note. It is pre-fall 2012 on other websites. So yeah BN, resolve that please.

    • Gidi February 9, 2012 at 12:04 PM

what is it with all these Nigerian designers (tailors) and all these ‘pre-fall’, ‘summer’, ‘spring’ crap?
Why can’t they flow with Harmattan, dry and rainy season themes? It makes them look and sound silly.
I will leave the critique of the clothes for others but i have a feeling it is not looking good.

    • no dignity February 9, 2012 at 12:05 PM

kilele yi ? They look like colorful Ghana Must go Bag. What if color trends change before 2013 ? Take this criticism and produce something better. By the way either your photographer or stylist needs to be replaced asap ! with all these oily faces. Abi na pre-fall style be that too ?

      • Abs February 9, 2012 at 10:10 PM

errrrm pls Ghana out of this. Ghana aint going anywhere. we are in our Country and flourishing. hide!

        • wteva February 10, 2012 at 9:11 PM

Hmm if you are flourishing much you shouldn’t really care bout the comment as it was not directed to ur country.

        • Ib February 13, 2012 at 2:50 AM

looool…both of u just made me laff

    • tama February 9, 2012 at 4:51 PM

i dont have a problem with the clothes but the models .. they look funny to me .. their facial expressions. looks like dey aint feeling the clothes themselves

    • Chinazar February 9, 2012 at 8:41 PM

What’s with the model who can’t stop pouting? huh?

    • Joy February 9, 2012 at 9:06 PM

nice clothes yeye models :D i will def buy these pieces, i need some of the prints in my closet

    • Akpeno February 9, 2012 at 9:59 PM

The Models are good…. the photography is crap! The Lighting the positioning and the finished product. It’s like someone took the pics with his/her nikkon 500 series camera with florescent light shining over the girls’ head. Some other photographer would have captured these girls better.

The pieces are okay….. I’m not jumping out of my seat though….

    • Gidi February 9, 2012 at 10:10 PM

      why was my comment censored?
i was simply highlighting the stupidity of all these pre-fall, spring and summer themes in the collection of our designers. That story of catering for international audiences does not cut. International audiences will not stop buying if the collections are termed ‘harmattan’, ‘Dry’ and ‘rainy’ collections. Besides, you and i know that 95 percent of these clothes are bought within the country. So why the silly themes?

      • LindsayLohan February 10, 2012 at 12:26 AM

Well, @Gidi, F/W, S/S are market terms… They are not direct symbols for the country’s weather… It’s like the SI unit for release dates…. ‘it’s just standard industry language. It’d be nice to know b4 speakin…

        • Nma February 10, 2012 at 11:27 AM

Standard ko standard ni. Gidi is right! Take joy in whats ur and celebrate ur own. Those seasonal terms are “standard” in the western world because it applies there (duh!), so it makes sense obviously. But if u are mostly catering to a country that does not have those seasons then what sense does it make? You need to learn how to take criticism from your buyers and apply it (if u like or deem it fit) and not come on here being defensive.

I actually like the prints….very pretty. But let us learn to take pride in whats ours…that way, the international scene we are trying to appeal to will take notice…..but they won’t do that when we lack uniqueness and emulate everything they do down to things that don’t even apply to us.

      • Joy February 10, 2012 at 6:54 AM

Why are you giving your self so much head ache? why not criticize the clothes and the modeling, why is a name disturbing your yanche? a beg go sit down and find something else to say

    • sweetyinks February 9, 2012 at 10:26 PM

this is beautiful, i love the colours

    • osarieme February 10, 2012 at 12:18 AM

Seriously, Nigerians and their need to sound foreign is pathetic. What in Gods name is pre fall collection, spring look book and summer whatever. Sad! Sad! Sad!. Stop it at once, .

    • cynthy February 10, 2012 at 7:35 AM

Tis is beautiful, d only problem is dat i av so many of tis designs in my wardrobe(dats y i bought it in d 1st place) n i rili dont see anytin sunshine(summer) bout tis clothes,d colors r dull

    • moi February 10, 2012 at 9:56 AM

l like them, stop hating people(nigerian”s in particular).

    • Abi February 10, 2012 at 11:51 AM

@moi- why the generalisation, who said the people commenting are all Nigerians!By the way, I’m not Nigerian but taking offence anyway:-)
The comments about the labelling is correct IMO, why not label the collection to suit the country of origin or better still create your own unique ‘industry standard’, must you always copy? Your own too is good, you know :-)

U pple must sha hate no matter wat…..try and do something productive with ur lives ‘awon commentators’…”Let’s c ur own, even if it’s nt perfect.she made an attempt, wetin una don achieve ‘bellanaija comment’….mstwwwww…….

    • bettyB February 11, 2012 at 6:38 AM

@Fashiohicon The designers put their collection on BN to showcase their work. It is not about hating on the designer it is about giving opinion; whether good or bad> it is up to the designer how they respond to that.I’m sorry to say “making an attempt” just doesn’t cut it. The fashion industry is brutal and the weak designs will just not cut it. Featuring on BN is by no means the only way to show you have achieved something

    • uyer February 12, 2012 at 8:15 PM

Can everyone here talking about what they have absolutely no clue about shut it, the fashion industry isnot and will never be segregated! It is believed that every designer whether from nigeria or other wise aspires to present their pieces to the internationational community how on earth can you do that saying they should have harmattan season! Nigerians can be ridiculous go read your books, sigh as for the dresses no comment the designer needs to really work hard. And that shoud read fall winter 2012 or 2012 -2013 heads up pre fall is ov. No more stupid comments please
