2012 Arise Magazine Fashion Week: Jewel by Lisa presents “There’s Something About a Lady”

The Jewel by Lisa brand is one that always evokes Afri-Luxe-Chic!
For their “There’s Something About a Lady” collection presented at the 2012 Arise Magazine Fashion Week, JBL reiterated what we already know, no one does it like they do! The new JBL prints stood out especially when set on fluid fabrics. The bling was also present, applied in seemingly subtle ways but you couldn’t miss it as the models strutted down the ramp.
People ask how JBL continues to reinterpret print each season, the answer lay in this collection.

nice, love it
All I want to ask is, are we suppose to wear leather gloves in this heat of ours? Good designs any way.
Chic numbers, lovely!
I love this collection! The quality is <3 <3 i love JBL

With the exception of the last piece, there is a restraint in this collection that signals a nice new direction for jbl. Very modern and very tasteful. The more I look the more I love.
don’t like it – everything is so dark and moody.
@Me…all I want to ask is, are you kidding me?
My sentiments exactly
This collection looks so basic.
This collection is so feminine. I love it!
Love these ,they also photograph beautifully … Is that alec wek?for collections would wish designers would show daytime to dinner and bedtime wears in diff seasons…shouldn’t this be a collection? No?
She butchered it!!btw “Me”,not only Africans wear JBL.#justsaying#
all i want to say is…..lol @ turn turn turner’s reply to me.
Fabulous!
You know The Designer when you see her, she had the best models. Absolutely j’adore all of her work. Detailing and cut are very clean. JBL….You’re my hero mama!!!
I love! But what’s with all the foreign models. Her money has come o! Lola
I love! But what’s with all the foreign models. Her money has come o! Lol!
the models almost made me take a nap. nice collection but d models just dnt cut it for me.
I totally concur! The models took so much away from this beautiful collection
boringgggggg…pop of colour in her collection wud av suited nicely.
This is probably the best collection i’ve seen this fashion week.
Cliche cuts. I hate it. No beef.
I won’t say I hate it but by the time I had seen the first five looks, I was bored. And I really wanted to like this collection. But prints alone can’t save a collection, there has to be innovation on the cuts and silhouettes too. Pls this is meant as constructive criticism, still like her work.
Another so so collection to me.
Boring.
Hi five!
Mi no liky……ilove jbl but her last collection was farrrrrrrr berra
Agree
Love when african prints are made to good use
not her best, have seen better from her. TAN did cut it for me this year and that transpired in Ejiro’s collection too
I like the fact that at least she utilised so-called African fabrics (even if they might be made somewhere else). But at least the collection has a Nigerian vibe to it. I agree with “non professional opinion” about the restraint. Beautiful nonetheless. Thumbs up, JBL.
love it one of my favs of the season
a bit boring coming from Jewel by Lisa…:(
Pls you guys should be realistic with your comments. You stay judging the emerging designers always and praise the grounded ones. Pls somebody should tell me if this is not what lisa brings to the table everytime but bcs its lisa its wonderful. My tailor would do this perfectly, u guys had better start encouraging new things cs they would rule soon
@duby I’d rly love 2 know ur tailor cos all d tailors I know r either retarded, know-it-alls or inept. That’s why I always buy ready to wear pieces.
I pd 2 see jewel by lisa but thanks so much 2 d Arise organizers 4 delaying so much that I had 2 leave b4 her collection came on. Someday soon, I’ll be able 2 wear print but not now. I like d collection. Dark & broody just like me but will I wear it? Mo
i’m disappointed
Duby…God bless you! In my opinion, this is a NO! No beef oh..
rite
D clothes foto well…d fluidity ws captured well but is ds what they call a collection…its a motley. And why do some models ave gloves and others dont have…seems there wasnt enough to go round and the show director thought, lets draw lots on who wears them…d gloves had no bearing with the looks…sorry.
Though I like some designs. I think its too plain.
Most of d designs r nt new bt some were given a twist thus making it refreshing…d styling was good…excellent use of fabrics n great mix of patterns…great attention to detail was obvious…She was also able to make African fabrics look light n airy which is a good thing cosmost times they look heavy on d body wen nt tailored right…very flattering cuts as well…yea!
All I know is me sef dey enter this fashion industry. Watch out Bella….fashion school here I go hehe.. It’s the photography guys, I was seated right there, front row I might add *wink* you should have seen the detailing , #MaJAR. I just need to intern under JBL, period.
completely and utterly boring. like wow NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I want to be a model ooooo.
http://personalstuvs.blogspot.com
luv all the dresses! And most of them can be worn off the runway! JBL well done!
i like JBL a whole lot….but i am sorry to say i didnt feel this collection of hers this time around….
Agree dear, it feels like a step down
I see Alek Wek doing her thing… The collection would av been beautiful, if it had some color.
so nice oo. How much does 1 outfit cost?
http://www.revivedafrikana.blogspot.com
I dnt like d styles…but I love d print n color.
bn you are now screening ya comments huh…not jbl’s best. publish my comment
This is hardly pushing the envelope, why so safe? Being ladylike does not preclude creativity
saw this collection live…i thought lisa had run out of options…but she jst showed she’s 2steps ahead…No one does it like JBL baby! flawless collection…pure genius
I love JBL as a label. But this collection doesn’t quite fit. I’d go for her previous collections.
Never been sold by JBL. Her finishing is good though.
Well made, but looks like I’ve seen it all before. Nothing new, nothing suprising. She’s had much better collections
lovely collection.. wearable ….

just okay…. and what has the last gown got to do with this collection. looks like it belongs in another collection… edit edit edit
Not boring at all, loved the chicness of her designs. Great job !
one particular model has me doubting if im actually straight!
Boring Joor.
What are you people talking about???
its my honest opinion.
Some of the pieces here, my tailor has actually made them for me since last year.
If its gonna be same same with what’s on the street, why bother. I have seen way better from JBL and I expect we’ll yet see better stuff than this.
If u like, call it “deconstructive” criticism
All typos in my last comment duly noted.
I just love it. It seems she is bold with her designs, might not be wearable by most people but she isn’t afraid to try.
nice collection,luv jbl….kip d gud work goin.
