Thank God It’s Friday! It’s Onos O here and welcome to this week’s edition of BN Music Friday Top 5.

This week’s edition is dedicated to the best Nigerian collaborations making tsunamis and tidal waves this year, so we decided to put a little twist on our usual format and make this week’s edition more of a “collaborative” one. Give me a sec, let me explain further.

This week, I’m not going to force MY top 5 down your throat and make you just… “accept” it, so to say, like we usually do. This week, we want to hear your side of the story; we want you to share your own top 5 with us and tell us the reasons why. BUT, there’s also a little twist on that bit – we’re going to give you the songs to select from, a list of 21 songs. (Why 21? Well, we got 20 sure JAMS… then, remembered one that had to be on there so…)

So, simply put, on this week’s BN Music Friday Top 5, I’ll pick my own top 5 from the list of 21 songs and ask that you too share yours with us as well. And, just like last week, we’ve got a special video for you, at the end.

Now that this week’s twist is clear, let’s jump right into it.

Here is the list of songs for you to choose from, are arranged in no particular order:

Now, here’s Onos O‘s BN Music Friday Top 5 (and don’t hesitate to scroll up to play any of the songs):

5. Yung 6ix Feat. Naeto C – Picking Things

“Picking Things” is like one of my anthems right now. It oozes swag and this free chilled out youthful spirit that I can easily vibe to. And, with Yung6ix and Naeto C on the cut, it’s not short of punch lines, catchy melodies and memorable lyrics that will stay locked up in your mind’s safe for days.

4. Ikechukwu Feat. Omo Akin – Ifeoma

When this song dropped earlier this year, i was completely infatuated. From the beats to the playful lyrics, “Ifeoma” was and still is my tune for days and with the “Ta Lo Sobe” crooner, Omo Akin adding his extra pizzazz, I’m still such a huge fan. I like the direction Ikechukwu is going with this his new album, can’t wait for it to drop.

3. Ajebutter 22 Feat. Taymi B – Senrenre

The first time I heard this track, I was driving. That night, I was driving back to the mainland on third mainland bridge and it was really late. Once I heard that Studio Magic beat, I felt like turning right back to go club somwhere in V.I because it set me in the mood for a fun night. Excellent song; I hope Ajebutter 22 can hit us up with some more hits like this.

2. Omawumi Feat. Flavour – Bottom Belle

“Kokoma, I stand by, Adebisi Konga, Omawumi’s baby Eh eh…” I’m pretty sure there are only a handful of people that didn’t get sucked into this catchy tune. I’m also pretty sure that a lot of people don’t even know what Omawumi or Flavour are even talking about on “Bottom Belle” but they love it anyway.

The song is actually Omawumi‘s and Flavour‘s angle/interpretation on/of a really Old Skool song, when bell-bottoms were the latest in fashion, where the crooner was asking for bell-bottoms as a sign of love.

1. M.I Feat. Funbi & Maytronomy – Beg For It

In my opinion, so far this year, “Beg For It” is my number one song out of Nigeria. (I had to specify “out of Nigeria” because Gotye‘s “Somebody That I Used To Know” just knows how to tug on our heart strings just the way we like it)

From the sampling in the production to the original angle the artists took to bring “Beg For It” to life; with Maytronomy‘s easily-relatable lyrics that are packed with witty punchlines, Funbi‘s breathtaking crooning and M.I‘s… you know, that thing M.I does; “Beg For It” just hits the spot for me as my number one Nigerian collaboration of the year.

So, now you know mine, I’m dying to know yours; I’d love to know what your tastes are – if there are any songs that should definitely be on that list that aren’t; what your own top 5 is, why and what you think BN Music Friday Top 5 is missing in general. I can’t wait to hear your feedback.

So, while I wait, here’s the special video I promised.

Check on it.

So, with all that said, I’ll be right here waiting for you next week; and as I always say “vivere senza rimpianti” (to live without regrets). Have a great day.
