Hello, Onos O here and it’s my pleasure to welcome you to another edition of BN Music Friday Top 5.

This week I’m giving you a top 5 countdown of my best most recent Nigerian songs of the moment.

As the music editor at Bellanaija.com, my ears hear a great deal of music everyday and I’m constantly searching for new ones regardless of the genre. So, when I say “Of The Moment”, I’m referring to new songs that, since I heard them, I literally must jam everyday; those songs that, even while I’m rifling through loads of music I come across everyday, I must “tick their attendance” at least twice every day since I heard them.

As a result, this week’s countdown wouldn’t have any videos because well, these songs don’t quite have any so, to compensate for that, there’s a “surprise” video at the end.

Anyway, without further ado, here’s this week’s BN Music Friday Top 5:

5. Lynxxx Feat. Wizkid – Fine Lady

This song just dropped at midnight yesterday and I waited up to download it as soon as it dropped. Let me confess, I’m a big Lynxxx fan, ever since I heard “Suck belle, make the shirt fine”, I’ve been listening to Mr. “International”. So, “Fine Lady” had to make the countdown as already, the count on my zune player reads a good fifteen listens so far and I’m sure you can guess what song I’m listening to right now .

I don’t know what it is about the song, may be it’s the Fela Kuti reference Wizkid made or if it’s just the soukous-inspired guitars Masterkraft produced but whatever it is, I’m already hooked. Big ups to star boy Wizzy and Lynxxx Utunu.

4. Davido Feat. Shina Rambo – Overseas

When Shina Rambo says Davido on the beat, they say him use jazz” during his verse, I’m beginning to believe it’s true, because most people I know aren’t fond of this tune but I listen to it at least twice everyday, ever since the day it leaked on the internet.

Davido and Shizzi have definitely perfected some kind of style/niche sound because whether you like it or not, their song formula is what most Nigerian songs are beginning to sound like now. Go listen to the Mavin All Stars‘ “Solar Plexus” again and tell me if you don’t see traces or smidgens of Davido all over it.

3. Yung6ix Feat. Naeto C – Picking Things

Yung6ix is one rapper that is ready to turn the game upside down. Ever since I heard his remix to the chart topping “Oleku” by Ice Prince featuring Brymo, I have followed his every verse and freestyle and so far, all in all, he hasn’t quite let me down.

After his killer verse on “Export” off M.I‘s “Illegal Music 2”, I felt he had established himself as a threat to other rappers in the game. Then, when “Picking Things” dropped, to me, it was the best of both worlds – the punch line heavy, wisecracks hustler side of him mixed with the young playful slang toting side. And, With Naeto C on the E Kelly produced joint, need I say more?

2. Hayo Niel – If I Fall

This is one song that took me by surprise and I’m not ashamed to say that I’m quite “in love” with it. From the deep lyrics with easy breezy vocals to the catchy melodies and the awesome Gray Jon’z production, I only have good things to say about Hayo Niel‘s “If I Fall”.

If you haven’t heard it yet, you’re definitely missing because I, for one, personally don’t miss listening to this about two or three times a day. Check on it.

1. 2Face Idibia – Omo T’osan

This is my JAM! Frankly, 2Face blew me away with this track because his choice of melodies was incredible. They are the types of melodies that you really can’t forget. The song is subliminally catchy because it catches you off guard.

The first time I heard “Omo T’osan” was at the April 30th 2Face concert and I found myself singing it on my way home and he didn’t even perform it, he just played a little snippet. Right now, this is my best song of the moment. By far, it’s my best song on 2Face‘s “Away & Beyond” and it oozes a certain maturity and emotion that blows me away every listen.

So, that’s this week’s BN Music Friday Top 5. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

So, before I show you the surprise video, in the spirit of Friday and it’s ability to make us party, I want to sneak in a song that could have been number six in my book, a certified club banger, Ditweni‘s “Konji Stabilizer” featuring Khevin Dwayne – It’s funny, entertaining and has got the right non-cliche beats to make you move on the dance floor.

Now, it’s time for the “surprise” video. Perusing around the internet searching for what’s new on the music scene is no easy job. But, when talents like Buchy‘s fall into your lap, it makes it all worth it. Let me put it this way, imagine a Nigerian Adele.

Well, here’s Buchy‘s cover of Adele‘s “Someone Like You”. She’s the one in the first photo on the post (above) and her cover is pretty breathtaking. Check on it.
