Finding Justice for Ugo: Inspector General of Police Deploys ‘High-Tech Team’ to Take Over Investigations

Investigation into the sad and cruel murder of Ugo Ozuah in Lagos just five days after his wedding has taken another dimension, hopefully for the better.

Family and friends of Ugo say he was allegedly murdered by the Police along Gbagada Expressway. He was shot in his chest when he was escorting a friend who had come to greet him just a day after he returned from his honeymoon.

The Police has however denied the allegation claiming the victim was shot by armed robbers who were passing along the expressway.

There was a recent development yesterday when the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar instructed a high-powered investigation team from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, to take-over the investigation.

The murder case was previously being investigated by the Lagos State Police Command.

Channels TV reports that in a Press Statement by the IGP, he gave the assurance that “The Force will do everything humanly and operationally possible to ensure that the perpetrators of the crime are unmasked and eventually brought to book.”

He also dispelled rumours making rounds on social media that he had earlier made a definite statement concerning the incident.

“As a matter of fact, this is the first and the only statement so far made by either the IGP or the Force Headquarters on the subject matter. As the Chief Investigator of the nation, it is not in the character of the IGP to jump into hasty conclusions before initiating investigations.” The statement read.

The IG also promised that special phone lines for purposes of interaction with members of the public will soon be released and urged members of the public who may have witnessed the crime, to come forward with useful information that could aid the Police in tracking the criminals.

It is hoped that this development would bring a favourable progress into the investigation. His death was very painful and the investigation must not be swept under the carpet.
