Mariam Afolabi, a 19 year-old law student at Warwick University and CEO/Creative Director of the renowned  upcoming fashion label, Mademoiselle Aglaia will be presenting her new collection called Acanthus and Renaissance Art in Lagos this weekend.

She “welcomes you to her jungle” on the 29th of December at the Oriental Hotel Lagos where she’ll be showcasing in Nigeria for the first time.

Speaking about her new collection, Mariam says “My designs have been inspired by the ceiling of famous palaces like the palace de Versailles and paintings from artist like Leonardo da Vinci and others during the renaissance period. The Acanthus plant has also inspired the embroidery style in the dresses I have designed to give it that baroque element. Designers like Chanel, Givenchy and Balmain have also inspired the style and technique I have adopted in my collection. These designers use beads, embroidery and prints to express their style, most of the techniques and styles in my collection will portray this.”

Mariam has showcased her designs at various shows including Echo and X&Os for teenagers, the African Fashion Week London where Toyin Lawani CEO of TiannahStyling and Creative Director of Elegante by TiannahStyling helped in creating and bringing her designs to life and also at Universities like UCL, Imperial, Southampton, Nottingham, Toronto and Warwick.

The event will be attended by notable personalities in the fashion & entertainment Industry. Artistes performing at the event are D’Prince, Wande Coal, Dammy Krane, @ADDICTIONDuo, 2Sec, ttwins & Lax.

Come and see a world class fashion event! It is strictly by invitation.
