Veteran Guitarist for King Sunny Ade, Fatoke Abiodun arrested for Drug Trafficking | Allegedly Attempted to Transport Cocaine to Italy

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) made its first arrest of the new year and sadly, it was a member of the entertainment community. Fatoke Abiodun, a guitarist who worked with King Sunny Ade for 30 years was arrested on the 1st of January 2013.
He was attempting to board an Air France flight to Italy at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. NDLEA Commander for the Lagos Airport, Hamza Umar said “We have made the first arrest in the new year. The suspect, a guitarist by name Fatoke Abiodun was found with 1.575kg of cocaine. The drug was discovered in the false bottom of his luggage during the outward screening of passengers to Italy.”
The 62 year old is financially responsible for his large family including 4 wives, many children and grandchildren. He will be charged to court for unlawful exportation and possession of narcotics. He is currently cooperating with investigators and has confessed to the crime and blamed his involvement in the drug trade on financial pressure after retirement.
He is quoted to have said “I played for King Sunny Ade for 30 years before I was unceremoniously retired in 2007. I was unprepared and without severance money I saw the bitter side of life…Because at my age I could not provide for my family. I am ashamed of myself.”

This case should be a deterrent for anyone who is tempted to get involved in the drug trade. It is not worth the disgrace and jail time.

Most people have forgotten that Life is just like a shadow of every mankind, if you chase your shadow, it would be running away from you, u can never meet up at all (irony of life). A lesson to be learnt for all those Fuji Megastar as they fondly called that life is not stable, they should trend this world softly with the way they used to change woman every season like soap opera.
everyone please plan your life NOW when you can and while you can PLEASE start think of your retirement plans what will become of you when that monthly pay stops? what will become of you when you dont have the energy to hustle and do all the work because your strength is gone. having baby mama up and down the place because the money is plenty NOW…… please train your children that God has blessed you with so that you wont be old and be thinking of our to take care of yourself your children and grandchildren like this man, i really feel his pain and pity him am sure he didnt want to do it and some people must have said “baba do you want to die hungry carry it don’t worry they won’t catch you” O MA SE!!!!

Our women can be worthless sha….I find it shameful how our women are o quick to spread legs and start popping kids for any man with small change and little fame. When a common guitarist can boast of 4 wives there is a problem and this problem will not subside unless we start empowering our young girls and educating them that they can potentially become successful without having to be commoditized by men with small short term change.

I don’t understand the pictures. So the police asked him to pose with the cocaine. And then again, pose sitting down with the suitcase? Too bad. I’m sure this guy could have opened up a music school (teaching kidds) in Nigeria or the UK. He would have made an honest living

this is such a shame……people need to learn how to start saving in dier 20s so that they dont fall victim of such in their old age. i just started and its not easy but its with constant practice that you get better……i feel bad for him and his family and while i want him to be an example to others who are thinking of walking down the path, i hope they be kind to him for his age too
