Earlier today, news of a fire at Ikeja City Mall (ICM) went viral, causing many people into panic. The mall, situated at Alausa, Ikeja usually witnesses a throng of customers during working hours and for this reason coupled with the increased frequency of fire outbreaks in the state, there was widespread worry about the safety of people who were at the mall.

Following the news, the management of the ICM has released an official statement stating the cause of the fire. The statement which was posted on the Ikeja City Mall Facebook page noted that the fire occured this morning at about 11.15am at one of the stores, Mr. Price, where clothing items and accessories are sold.

The fire, according to Steve Idornigie the Operations Manager of the ICM, was reported to him by the Store Manager and emergency staff responded immediately.

The process of evacuation was swift,” he said. “The customers conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and allowed the emergency services people to do their work.”

On what caused the fire, Idornigie said from preliminary investigations, it seems the fire emanated from an electric power point. However investigations, he said are ongoing to ascertain the cause of the fire.
In terms of damage, no goods were lost neither was anyone injured. However some clothes got wet as a result of the water from the men of the Federal Fire Service. We would like to thank them for their professionalism and valiance, along with the men of Lagos State Emergency Service, National Emergency Agency, the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency and the Civil Defense.”

We are glad the fire was controlled on time and no one was injured.
