Recently, the Nigerian fashion industry has been ticked off as one of the fast burgeoning industries around the world. With designers showcasing creative pieces and competing on worldwide stages alongside renowned international designers, some critics have called it (Nigerian fashion industry) the next hot spot.
Once again, one of our designers is making us proud. Design label, Ella & Gabby was profiled in the January issue of international fashion bible, Vogue – the UK version. The Lagos based label was featured alongside other emerging brands including Priti by Design, Maninha, Pamela Henson and Canada’s Nicole Campre.
Here’s how the magazine described the design label;
Ella & Gabby is a luxury international fashion brand from Nigeria who focus on the beauty of the female form reflected through their beautiful fabrics and cut. They are one of the leading brands in the African market and you can see why. With collections boasting vivid colours, bold prints and intricate designs they really will provide you with a stand out wardrobe this Winter.

I want to be excited about this, but the scanned page clearly says ‘Advertising Feature’, which suggests to me that Ella & Gabby paid for this ad. A paid profile isn’t quite the same as Vogue UK ‘discovering’ Ella & Gabby, which makes the title of this post somewhat misleading.
Thank you so much for this Florence. They were not featured, it was an ad in the classifieds section.
Gbam!! And this is not hating oh
@Florence, so they can afford an advert space in Vogue. What exactly is your point if not pull me down syndrome . TSK
This is not any pull-me-down syndrome. Paying for an advertisement in Vogue is NOT an accomplishment. @Florence is absolutely right!
This is why Nigerians are poor and wretched! We choose sentiment over competence. Maki Oh got her own page in Style.Com, now that’s an accomplishment, not a paid advertisement! And BellaNaija, you guys are misleading people. Or maybe you were paid for this one too.
In any case, Ella & Gabby, BN and Vogue will do their own thing because that’s their job but it is every reader’s responsibility to be educated and think for themselves. Is this news? Maybe. Accomplishment? No.
All paid content on BN is always clearly stated as “Sponsored Content”. If you don’t see that, then it’s a free feature. You know we love our BN fam so we are always transparent. Thank you!
I am in the UK and buy British Vogue every month and after seeing this article, scanned the magazine page by page and couldn’t find it. Until I realised it was in the PAID FOR section. I agree, the title of this article is very misleading
Nice hehe

Bad belle people. Cant you see that Vogue is simply advertising up and coming designers for the world. Read their June issue 2012. The clearly stated that they have a project to select new designers from all over the world to advertise and feature them free. Why cant we rejoice with our own?
Lets assume that it was a paid advert, is it easy to advertise in UK Vogue? Do these people think that Vogue accepts every designer? UK Vogue is the most influential fashion magazine in the world. Lets be careful with the things we say. This label is good and has done Nigeria proud. Lets give them credit and not idle arguement. I sense envy here.
Up Nigeria. The important thing is that the brand is re-branding Nigeria being the only African label featured in Vogue. We are going places sisters. Lets be happy with each other.
I agree with u, ella & gabby in bad belle people out.
Our Nigerian designers are a pride to all of us.
Just how i wish more Nigerian designers would be featured in other A list Fashion Bibles like Vogue. How they are featured is not important. We want the world to recognize the creative potentials and the dynamism in the designs of our people. Kudos to Ella & Gabby. Lets do more.
