Lagos based firm – Bestman Games, recently launched the City of Lagos edition of famous board game Monopoly. The launch couldn’t have come at a better time and the choice of Lagos to grace the world famous Monopoly board game only underscores its unique status as Africa’s most vibrant metropolis.

For starters, Lagos is the first African city to have its own edition of monopoly and it turned out to be a great product, everyone is having fun with it, from Lagos to Abuja, London, Atlanta, and even Cape Town. We love it too.

The game gives you an opportunity to tour Lagos and buy the hottest travel spaces and utilities – classic Monopoly game style. You can even invest in properties like houses and hotels on Banana Island – your friends might get jealous. It captures the essence of Lagos as Nigeria’s industrial, commercial and financial hub and it allows you to play with local street names and locations like Tiamiyu Savage, Opebi, Ikorodu road and Marina. Some of the most recognizable landmarks in Lagos like Iddo Terminus and the City Hall are also included. It’s a great opportunity for Nigerians in the Diaspora to learn about Lagos and Lagos life, whilst also identifying with some of the Nigeria’s iconic corporate brands that are an integral part of daily life. You will learn about Lagos in an enjoyable way.

Several features highlight the rich diversity and offerings of Lagos. With an exciting mix of traditional buildings and modern edifices like the City Hall, Palms shopping mall and , even the infamous Kirikiri jail – you don’t want to go there.

As in the classic Monopoly game, the rules of the City of Lagos edition are not different. Value of property cards are the same as the corresponding property. The four-corner squares remain unchanged, as does the road to victory; whoever is left when all the other players have gone bankrupt wins the game.

Perhaps the Chance cards hold the thrill, with interesting features like, ‘for using the overhead pedestrian bridge on ikorodu road, move forward three spaces’ or paying a fine for attempting to bribe a law enforcement agent. Riding an Okada without helmet or driving against traffic means you will be reporting at ‘Yaba left’ for psychiatric evaluation. If your sister just won the most beautiful girl in Nigeria contest, you can collect money on her behalf and can even get rewarded for calling 767, which is the Lagos version of 911.

The frenzy is on and you won’t imagine who is playing Monopoly these days!
