These on-air and TV stars are standing up to cancer.
Today Monday 4th February 2013 is World Cancer Day. To commemorate this day, Nigerian creative agency – Brown Eyez releases to BN a photo shoot with Nigerian TV and on-air personalities including Toke Makinwa of Rhythm FM and VHS, Yvonne “Vixen” Ekwere of E Weekly and Vixen Red Carpet, Shine of Cool FM and Tosyn Bucknor of Top Radio/3LiveChicks.
According to a rep for Brown Eyez, the photo shoot aims to lay emphasis on using colour green which represents cervical cancer.
Speaking further the rep tells BN that “It will be a chance to give back to the community, raise awareness about an important health issue and reach a wide demography of all ages that’s connected by fashion and socializing”
Dr Matilda Kerry of George Kerry Life Foundation (Cervical Cancer Foundation) also worked on the campaign.

Tokes face in the group picture carries no message
are they actually doing anything to fight cancer or just posing in hair and makeup??? *yawn*… a lot of ppl busy doing nothing>
and you my dear friend what are you busy doing?
Ermm actually they are DOING something to fight cervical cancer..you see then in nice hair and make-up…and they are carrying posters which informs/educates us about cervical cancer. It might just influence someone to get a pap smear etc..so please next time lets learn to appreciate instead of the ‘I must find something wrong’ attitude.
thank you … i thought the same
Wasn’t aware cervical cancer was such a joyous thing.
Airheads.
same thing I was thinking. a little too excited maybe….
U r so right!!! Evrythng na pose
Toke is a very beautiful woman!
So i guess photo shoot of plenty make up, hair and a banner with cervical cancer messages will stop the virus ba? im getting all of you. Get away from the camera, lights and action and go to the streets and give advice on how to stay protected.
this our generation sef. everybody wants ‘change’ but nobody wants to leave their comfort zone. JOKERS! bellanaija you better post my comment.
I LIKE your comment
Is cancer now a virus? Interesting!
Yes it is! now this is the reason why people need to go out there and raise awareness. if by now you dont know that cervical cancer is caused by human papilloma virus then i guess all the work all these so called celebs have been doing to fight cervical cancer isnt effective. Thanks for highlighting my point that this types of celeb campaigns are the most ineffective initiatives ever. they are more concerned about the glitz and glam and being relevant.
ure so right.they should all go out there, create awareness
Toke pls close ur mouth.. U neva know what maybe flying
is she the only one opening her mouth? Why must we turn everything to a Toke bash fest.
Nice.I like the messages the posters carry
God bless you all

What about skin cancer? Because some one is bleaching her skin, and have the nerve to preach about cancer? Really?
Naija sef . . . Everything na pose . U guys should go to secondary schools , universities, on the street and educate people . Do a campaign on radio, tv , centres, hospitals , bill boards etc ,
A glamorous way of spreading the word! Not bad!

I agree dat dis campaign is empty. To fight cancer is more dan a styled photoshoot. Families who have lost loved ones or who have loved ones going thru chemo will tell you that what they’ll like is more than your pretty faces on bellanaija. Like someone said earlier at lst move out of your comfort zone aka photo studio. You guys are there normally doing one photo session or the other so this sincerely just looks to me like another opportunity for you guys to prance around d studio again. #myopinion
Nice pictures. That’s it.

Funny how nigerians think atleast some1 made an effort even if dey did a walk gave our cash u wuld still criticize, and its so bad even wt ds effort mst of u wuld 4get to use condoms or get tested nd save ur selves , even ur govt won’t give free vaccines cos all we do is talk.
Dey re doing somtin and itz called raising awareness u wld b surprised @ d amount of peeps dat die 4rn shear ignorance so d first step is alway 2 raise awareness so appreciate
The posters have educative messages.

vixen’s weave is badly fixed, the closing aint ok, I can see where the weave ends.
nyc photos nd good enough messages but toke’s face lacks energy
Honestly, you need to have some serious objectives behind these pretty pictures. Pretty picture, airbrushes photos, smily faces and small placcards do nothing. For example… how long does a pap test take? where can you have it done ( pls dont say any hospitals), which ages are people most at risk? Should 3 year old girls be getting tested? Does this campaign know the turn around time for getting results at state hospitals for example? They could have teamed up with a diagnostics centers to offer good discount to encourage XX number of people to be tested within the month of Feb as a key objective. These girls are not thinking, as long as there is free makeup clothes and plenty publicity on naija blogs they jump at any silly PR campaign; rather ensuring that they are adding value!!!!!!!!
Cool photo!!! Ladies looking good!

excuse me but is it mouth that they are going to use to fight cancer? what research have they done? mchew! Nigerians just think they can roll out red-carpet for everything or do photo for everything soo annoying! and what is with Tokes mouth in that last pic? too much
Since HPV is the main cause of cervical cancer and pre-cancer, avoiding exposure to HPV could help you prevent this disease. HPV infections occur mainly in younger women and are less common in women older than 30. The reason for this is not clear. Certain types of sexual behavior increase a woman’s risk of getting HPV infection, such as:
Having sex at an early age
Having many sexual partners
Having a partner who has had many sex partners
Having sex with uncircumcised males
Waiting to have sex until you are older can help you avoid HPV.
please educate us more. Especially on how and why they are transmitted eg Having sex with uncircumcised males
A sleazy attempt. I don’t blame the ladies. They look fab (even though I think there’s too much stress on makeup). There’s no emotional feel to this.
they should have had someone affected along with them in the photo session to lend weight…..kudos despite….
Toke is pretty but she looked like she was forced. That last pic especially, they all looked unnatural. Funny that I read the message but in the end I ended up just commenting on their looks. I think I get the point some previous commenters made about it not just being about pretty faces. All in all though, nice try
To reiterate, Toke short hair fits you o
As a doctor and public health professional, I absolutely get upset when Nigerians do things like this without doing proper homework. Yes, I agree with all the comments above. This is all fluff. “Let’s kick Cervical cancer in the butt”. How do you expect illiterate market women to get that message if you are serious about awareness. There is no mention of the HPV vaccine which in developed countries is the main weapon against it, along with pap smears and early detection. And stressing “Safe sex” does not even make sense any more. You only need to have the bad luck of marrying someone with a cancer-causing strain of HPV to be at risk regardless of whether you were a virgin your whole life or practiced safe sex for life and this is why boys get the vaccine in the US too.
Doctor zizi, market women t don’t come to blogs to read and am sure u can see the cards talk abt parctising safe sex and saying to take a test. If I may ask, what av u done as a doctor to spread d word . Some1 jst even comented dat she had no idea cervical cancer existed.
Yeah, short hair fits Toke, we can c your amazing facial structure. If you were taller you cld b a professional model
They all look lovely. now why did you drop the name of one of the ladies? Please correct the error. Toke, I didn’t know you had such beauty in you.
tosyn al the way…is this just a pose or for work?
HMMMM! PHOTOSHOP WELL DONE COS YVONNE IS NOT DAT FINE OOO
Yes the concept of the phot-shoot lacks depth, but this certainly has nothing to do with Toke…. can ya’ll beef-lords take your bad blood and go have a swim in the cannal…..afterall, Toke was recognised and invited to be part of the campaign…..
Toke is beautiful
pretty as they are , for some reason i think the models appear bigger than the message and i’m not talking size wise, it just seems like they are distracting from the message of this campaign
Nice one, lets kick cervical cancer in the butt *wink*
its sad that in this industry, that is ment to be fair for all isnt…a whole BN forgot shine coolfm OAP’s name untill a comment came from someone before they remembered..all u fake followers remember….radio will always be radio…be it raypower…rhythm or even tiwan tiwa, stop beefing presenters….it does not pay or do u justice…..
mehn Shine of Coolfm is Hot, that girl has the best figure 8 shape i have seen in my life… plus shes an award winning radio presenter, simple and down to earth, and crazy most times on air. she get swag die joor!!!!!!!!!! ride on girl.
shine is a natural beauty …with or without makeup…have you met her in person? if you havnt , then shut the f**k up
Quite interesting . Though some commentators have mentioned that the post is not enlightening, well said, but at least it has drawn out our doctors and they have enlightened us with their comments. Full stop.
