On Friday 10th March 2013, global electronics brand Samsung officially launched its sleek new smartphone Galaxy S4 at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. Tagged Samsung Design 4 Life Fashion Show, the event highlighted the distinctive qualities of the phone with side attractions including a fashion show and musical performances.
Hosted by Samsung brand ambassador Kate Henshaw and comedian Seyi Law, the event saw celebrities including Samsung brand ambassadors Banky W and Ali Nuhu as well as Dakore Akande, Basketmouth, Weird MC, Elohor Aisien, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Kiki Omeili, Ify Ejikeme, Obi Emelonye, Tricia Eseigbe-Kerry, OC Ukeje, Bovi, Segun Arinze and Charles Novia in attendance.
The fashion show which was organised to celebrate young designers, saw these design labels – Maureen Aurora Daniels, Clemas Couture, Unseen Designs, Tracy Zika and Karelle present their creative pieces.
Emmanouil Revmatas – Samsung’s Director of Hand Held Products, got on stage to demonstrate the peculiarities of the smartphone.
There were entertaining performances by dance group Dance Na The Main Thing, Shaydee and Skales but the most thrilling was Banky W’s Yes/No performance as well as his unexpected performance with Wizkid.
After the show’s fashion, music and phone presentations, some guests bought the sleek new device. According to Olajumoke Okikiolu (Marketing Manager, Hand Held Products, Samsung Electronics West Africa), the phone which retails for N 108,000 is now available in stores.
She also added that Samsung will provide customers in Nigeria and other pan-African countries with a 24-month “Accidental Damage from Handling” (ADH) warranty to cover screen and liquid damages to its new, flagship Galaxy S4 smartphone, at no extra charge. The warranty includes two free repairs in the event of accidental damage to the screen of the device.
