Al Mustapha

The Lagos division of the Appeal court has discharged and acquitted former Chief Security Officer to the Late Head of State Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha of the conspiracy and murder of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola.

According to Channels TV, the court decision was unanimous.  They ruled that there was no direct circumstantial evidence that he conspired with anyone as evidence of prosecution witnesses in that regard were contradictory.

Lateef Shofolahan, Al-Mustapha’s co-accused has also been discharged on the same grounds.

Al-Mustapha and Shofolahan were first arraigned in October 1999 on a four-count charge on conspiracy and involvement in the 1996 murder of the late Kudirat Abiola (Wife of Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola) on the Lagos/Ibadan expressway.

They both appealed against the judgement of a Lagos High Court which sentenced them to death.

I sat in on a few sessions when this chap was being tried and was saddened by what seemed to be the intent of a few to keep in jail for whatever reasons. There was so much this person said and that person said and very little proof of any murder. Very pleased for him.

      • nene July 13, 2013 at 11:34 AM

true talk. he didn’t kill kudirat. those who know the truth know. kudirat’s killers are still alive and very active.

    • slm Jkm July 12, 2013 at 11:49 PM

i wonder how we have so many illiterates in my beloved country Nigeria, what has GEJ got to do with the release of this man what has the federal government got to do with a case that has forever domiciled in Lagos state… let us think before we talk please

      • Lade July 13, 2013 at 3:32 PM

Slm Jkm…God will bless you for this comment. People seem to have the ‘blame the president’ syndrome. The way some people come to conclusion, it makes me wonder what type of brain they have. They can’t even analyse issues logically. They just think off their feet. And to those who insist Al-Mustapha killed Kudirat….did you witness it? Haven’t you been fed with whatever the media tells you. Did you ever sit in any of the cases? Did you hear any of the evidence? Please we would do ourselves a world of good by using the brain God gave us wisely and stop acting like we have empty skulls.

    • Jack D'Riper July 13, 2013 at 8:28 AM

Al’Mustapha is one of the most intelligent majors in his time and was a victim of Abacha’s bereavement. He perpetrated a lot of evil with numerous others who are very free running around and also playing politics still.
In as much as the so called justice is making him the only victim for these evils and exonerate others who obviously want to silence their involvement, I say, “Let him be free”. Justice is a complex phenomenon and sometimes require weird applications…

    • Jack D'Riper July 13, 2013 at 8:30 AM

Let Salvation come and let all sinners be punished ALIKE!

    • toluwalomo July 13, 2013 at 9:44 AM

      Epic shame!

If you were ever looking for a confirmation that GEJ is the weakest presido ever….you just got it.

    • Tess July 13, 2013 at 10:48 AM

I cannot believe the comments I am reading! ! Are you people for real? You are happy that a man who ordered the murder of a woman is free? If that woman were your mother or sister, would you all be rejoicing? It is at times like these that I want to give up on Nigerians, we are a truly wicked and selfish set of people! We always make excuses for a criminal so long as he comes from our region or is of the same religion. How can we go forward? I am truly ashamed of the supposedly educated 21st century enlightened youths who left such comments. I hope the Abiola family presses on, just like Stephen Lawrence’s family did in the UK. No matter how long it takes, Hamza Al-Mustapha should get the same treatment he gave to others.

      • Oaken July 13, 2013 at 3:05 PM

If you know history you will understand that the fact that the abiola s relevance in Nigeria vaporized in a matter of barely 4 years through the demise of abiola himself and his power hungry wife kudirat….it just Gods way of paying him for his handiwork. Those who live by the sword die by the sword

    • shola July 13, 2013 at 11:31 AM

another boko haram in town ……..2015 election will serious ooooo

    • Engr. Mohammed Musa July 13, 2013 at 11:49 AM

All our comment is for nothing because all his punishment in the custody was an examination by Almighty Allah. ALHAMDULILLAH.

    • Mohammed Yandaki July 13, 2013 at 12:35 PM

Alhamdulillah, may God continue to protect nd guide u throughout ur life. LONG LIFE ALMUSTAPHA, LONG LIFE THE JUDICIARY & THE NATION.

    • KABIR SULAIMAN YANDAKI (AWIZA) July 13, 2013 at 12:42 PM

All those gossipers behind the discharge of generous Almustapha will surely face trouble in thier future. Long life Almustapha.

    • funke July 13, 2013 at 1:01 PM

Most of the comments left me feeling sad, most of those praising him end with alhamdulillah meaning thank Allah, it is so sad am a muslim too and Islam does not support extra judicial killing in any form, at times like this am am comforted by the fact that there is a higher judgement we all shall face someday for all our actions and selfish interest. May the soul of the deceased continue to rest in peace and may all those who planned n killed her be judged by their conscience till they face the higher judgment. With the comments above, I weep for my country and what we have been reduced to

    • Lawal July 13, 2013 at 6:40 PM

We should all leave things to God for the final decision. None of us is as good as our Lord in decision making!

    • truth July 14, 2013 at 2:22 AM

so is he straight or gay?

    • ralph nwafor July 15, 2013 at 10:38 AM

The case of Mustapha is more spiritual than physical. On the 31st day of December 2012, a prophet in Lagos Arch Bishop John Obiokeke of GPM Churches prophecied in his annual prophecy night which was later published in his global prophecy book registered with the national library of Nigeria in January 2013 NO. 179 page “Hamza Mustapha will have his freedom this year, those against this will die and he will be freed”. How did he see this if God has not revealed it.

Why did he pay a sharp visit to Prophet TB Joshua if prayers had not been make by that prophet.

Its high time Nigerian begin to recognise the office of the PROPHETS in the land.

For Hamza Mustapha, Know it that God’s hand is on you. You have to draw nearer to him and do restitution if possible.
