MBGN 2013 Belles Display their Vibrant & Rich Cultures! See the Traditional Style of the 32 Contestants

The competition is getting really hot! On Friday, BN Beauty introduced the MBGN 2013 contestants, now the contestants are showcasing the vibrant and rich culture of the states they represent in traditional attires.

From dramatic costumes to the stunning accessories, this shoot as it all.

The set for the shoot, was built to depict Nigeria’s tropical rainforest while the paddle and fishing nets symbolises Bayelsa’s rich farming culture. As a result of not having delegates from all states, the chosen contestants are randomly assigned states, this avails them the opportunity to research and learn more about the state.

The 32 contestants are in a camp in Yenagoa, Bayelsa prepping for the D-day. Watch all the live action on Silverbird TV on Saturday 20th July 2013 by 7 PM.

I am loving the costumes of Imo, Akwa Ibom, Ondo and Rivers. Who are your favourites? Check them out!

  • Precious July 17, 2013 at 8:42 am

i know they put in effort, but i dont like the outcome. i think its not finesse

    • Okechukwu Ofili July 19, 2013 at 2:16 pm

thank you joor. It is too clunky…too many props. I mean what’s up with Ms. Bauchi? is she flying Saucer woman. cmon. There are better photographers out there.

  • Ibinabo July 17, 2013 at 8:52 am

what’s up with Miss Enugu and Kaduna? is that the traditional attire for those states?

    • ZK July 18, 2013 at 4:59 pm

I tire o. I’m from Kaduna and I’m shocked at her outfit! Does not represent how we dress…..shame

  • dinky July 17, 2013 at 8:56 am

Miss Kwara is on point!!! Miss Ogun, ur head dey there…. the rest, u shall be fine…….lol…

  • Nomy July 17, 2013 at 9:03 am

Anambra and Lagos I like! Its the tradition!

  • hmm July 17, 2013 at 9:04 am

I love the pictures….a bit busy but they all look lovely….

  • Soraya July 17, 2013 at 9:12 am

There is something off about these pictures- I wish they could have used a more natural setting- why all that fussy leaves and so forth around the shoot? Also I think their make-up is too much- such a shame to ruin the looks of these natural beauties. Only Kwara and Kano were spot on here- Osun, Nasarawa, Delta and Abuja were complete messes

  • Ademoore July 17, 2013 at 9:16 am

Total misrepresentation of traditional attires, where is the rich Nigerian culture we all know? Miss Nasarawa lost it completely… MBGN needs to get it together when selecting these contestants. Miss Nigeria did an excellent job in their selection process and I think MBGN could learn from that.. Really wish the currentMiss Nigeria would go for miss world instead of these ratchet definition of beauty Mbgn organisers shove down our throats.. Mtcheeeew, so not interested in mbgn this year.

  • Hurperyermie July 17, 2013 at 9:18 am

I LOVE WHAT MISS ONDO DID SHE COMBINED BOTH OWO AND ONDO CULTURAL WEARS TOGETHER AND IT LOOKS VERY BEAUTIFUL AM NOT SURE EVEN THE TRADITIONAL DANCERS HAS EVER THOUGHT OF SUCH

    • Tm July 17, 2013 at 1:30 pm

i agree with u. when I first of all saw it, I wanted to be like “we don’t dress like this in Ondo state” then I remember that Ondo, Idanre and Owo people are fond of beads and the popular owo dancers dress like this. I love how she combined the wears.

      • Miss Phoebz July 19, 2013 at 3:44 pm

        Yup Yup.
        *blushing.
        *Proudly Ondo

  • cynthia okoro July 17, 2013 at 9:27 am

  • Dora the explorer July 17, 2013 at 9:29 am

@Amaka Nassarawa dint get the memo..

  • Mimi July 17, 2013 at 9:30 am

Why do most of them look uncomfortable, like they are constipated or something

  • intheoverseas July 17, 2013 at 9:36 am

Enugu and Kaduna be channeling some “mammy water” sturvs lol

Also, looks like there is no real difference in the trad attires of most northern states.

  • Tayo July 17, 2013 at 9:47 am

    They all look nice

  • Myself July 17, 2013 at 9:54 am

Plateau, i would really love to see you in person, just because i REALLY WOULD LOVE TO KNOW IF THAT IS YOUR SKIN FOR REAL!

  • NAIJA 4 LIFE July 17, 2013 at 10:03 am

MISS BAYELSA, MISS ADAMAWA and MISS EKITI

  • Sir Farouk July 17, 2013 at 10:09 am

This is very lazy of MBGN, not all northern states wear fulani attire as their traditional wear. Very lazy thinking! Instead of them to represent the true diversity of Nigerian attires. Sigh. The girls looks pretty though

    • Annyaya July 18, 2013 at 1:55 pm

You got it right. Not everyone north of Kaduna or Plateau wears Fulani attire. This is very misrepresentative of northern cultures. Someone didn’t do their research. Laziness!

  • Shawn July 17, 2013 at 10:27 am

Adamawa, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Imo, Ogun and Oyo are IT for me

  • mII July 17, 2013 at 10:29 am

    • carliforniabawler July 17, 2013 at 9:44 pm

      yea…she looks like a fish…hehehehe

  • tybay July 17, 2013 at 11:08 am

What’s with the unearthly greenish-yellow glow on their skin. Bad photography at its height. Gives me the creeps…Only some of the contestants got the idea for the traditional attires…

  • Susan July 17, 2013 at 11:09 am

Go steph go steph go!!!!!miss IMO for mbgn!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Martha July 17, 2013 at 11:11 am

I commend Miss Akwa ibom,Miss Kogi,Miss Ondo for their Attires. Generally,I think there is a misinterpretation or should I say misrepresentation of attires like in the case of Miss Nassarawa.she totally got it wrong.

  • anon July 17, 2013 at 11:13 am

    Benue,bayelsa and akwa ibom 4 me o.

  • comment awaiting moderation! July 17, 2013 at 11:28 am

Miss Abuja is really pretty…Hey BN,just give us the news, don’t insert your opinion!

  • Lecker July 17, 2013 at 11:34 am

Lagos, cross river, ogun and Abuja

  • Lady T July 17, 2013 at 11:44 am

Wow, beautiful ladies of our great country Nigeria, they are all beautiful apart from few of them: Miss Egugu – a total mess, what was dat she wore on her breast? Miss Nassarawa a total disgrace to the state she represent, is there no cultural attire for nassarawa state? Miss Benue pls what happened to the well known beautiful white and black attire of benue? Miss ondo y were u wearing the bead like that of benin/delta people? Miss Abuja i reserve my comment. For those representing the yoruba culture, pls what happen to that beautiful didi hair style that brings out the real beauty of the yoruba culture instead of that bead on ur head? Well, the rest were beautiful, Miss Rivers pls what happen to the well known plain gorge of the rivers?, thump up to Miss calabar, akwa ibom, anambra, ogun, imo, edo, bayelsa, etc. u represent wellaaaaa

    • Tm July 17, 2013 at 1:33 pm

ermmmm……if you ask people who are indigenes of Ondo state (and who know the various cultures very well), they will tell you that this is a cultural wear for Owo people.

  • Angie July 17, 2013 at 11:56 am

I believe we are judging attires that represent the states….For me, Rivers, Cross Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Edo, Lagos and Osun were on point and truly represent what those states are recognized for in terms of traditional attires. The Ondo representative’s dress was gearing more towards Edo dressing. We all know the Benue traditional dress of black and white stripe material and see what was presented here, haba! MGBN organizers should take time out next time to research the dress culture of the states they will present in future pageants.

  • bubbleheead July 17, 2013 at 11:59 am

    MISS ONDO for MBGN! BEAUTIFUL

  • y July 17, 2013 at 1:04 pm

most of them did not get the memo but i think miss Kaduna is the worst

  • Hurperyermie July 17, 2013 at 1:05 pm

@Angie its true especially owo and benin they have the same traditional wears and dance we even share same boundary and seriously that is the traditional attire

  • love'me July 17, 2013 at 1:08 pm

Wow! delta, Bayelsa, Rivers & Jos look great

  • My name July 17, 2013 at 1:10 pm

bellanaija, why do you always mark photos with a very big bellanaija even photos not originally from you? most times you block the beauty of the photo with your mark. why use peoples photo to advertize your blog? a very serious org like yours should not indulge in this mess. have you seen Getty, AFP, Vanguard, Thisday mark photos like this? even when it is originally theirs…to me this is petty! why not mark photos decently at a corner than this bold and crazylike!!

  • BubblyBliss July 17, 2013 at 1:12 pm

    Miss Akwa Ibom!!!!

  • Afoluwasho Flowerpower July 17, 2013 at 1:51 pm

To enlighten those questioning Miss Ondo’s attire, her look is a combination of Owo (beads) and Ondo (wrapper) cultural/traditional outfits. There is a historical relationship between Owo and Benin which has resulted in a rich fusion of certain aspects of both cultures. So, one will understand why some people think Miss Ondo’s beads are from Edo…..Overall, I think the organizers have tried to create a contemporary look to the traditional outfits. They got it right in some cases (Ondo, Abia, Osun, Bayelsa, Rivers, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Oyo, Plateau) while in some others they were simply pathetic and should have put in some effort, through research, to achieve authenticity in representing the culture (Benue, Nassarawa, Kaduna, Abuja)

    • lARA February 16, 2014 at 5:40 am

Who is saying anything about Ondo that’s not a combination of Ondo and Owo that is pure Ondo. I’m from Ondo town and we wear those traditional beads. Check out our Obitun dancers especially and others. We use them at traditional wedding, birthday ceremonies, church weddings and burial ceremonies.

  • Adamant July 17, 2013 at 1:52 pm

Good good job@fotografy…for some professional commentator I’ll suggest u give kudos to creativity…perhaps u don’t even know what it takes to compose. a brief. ..this is one photographer that is so so good at work…I guess u mind ur comments….and at. • eby July 17, 2013 at 1:59 pm

All the contestants are beautiful in these shots but The costumes which made sense to me are: Lagos, Kwara,Rivers, Ekiti, Ogun, Oyo, Anambra, Edo All the northern states reps who looked beautiful in their similar attires are Adamawa, katsina, Kano, jigawa & Bauchi. Kogi would ve got a great shot if she had smiled a little, Miss Kaduna’s costume looked like a fashion project i really doubt if thats wat the Kaduna natives wear as per culture or their tradition, Plateau is also luking ok, all others are just not realistic and attention grabbing(+vely) enuf. May the best gal win…

  • GreenDiamond July 17, 2013 at 2:13 pm

Miss bayelsa is so on point. Miss Lagos is also pretty. But I’d vote for miss bayelsa.

  • The President July 18, 2013 at 5:12 pm

I find it insulting that most of the Northeren states were represented with Fulani attire, whereas most of them have no link to the Fulani’s whatsoever. Did they put any effort in this at all? I think it’s high time we stopped sending the wrong message accross. Not all northern states are hausa. They all have their unique languages, cultures, and ATTIRES for God’s sake!

  • Amirah July 18, 2013 at 8:07 pm

Nice try. All the northern states are wearing the same outfits, which is a mistake people make, north is not only hausa and fulani people. But, it also comes to show and confirm we are very similar than different. All the yoruba outfits look alike, bcos it s the same culture, same for igbo outfits. Edo, and yorubas are similar in their dressing bcos of the history.
MISS ONDO, is my favorite, she looks breathtaking.

  • hibez July 18, 2013 at 8:49 pm

These girls are really beautiful no be lie. I think i like miss anambara. Heard she’s just 18.

Miss Lagos has to win this competition. shes a class apart from the rest. miss edo, miss bauchi, miss adamawa, miss abuja. miss ogun and maybe miss anambra can scramble for comsolation prizes.

  • tolu July 19, 2013 at 2:38 pm

This competition is very COMPETITIVE unlike last years own that had 19 igbo gals and NONE was good enough to win never mind come second. This is what happen when Yorubas decide to come to the party!

  • sophie July 20, 2013 at 3:34 pm

Miss Kaduna completely nailed it, her pose is classic. Miss Ogun tried too.

  • Angel Deco July 20, 2013 at 6:29 pm
