Nollywood Star Monalisa Chinda visits Kirikiri Prison, Lagos | Encourages & Donates Items to Female Inmates – Photos & Scoop

07

On Sunday 16th September 2013, Nollywood star Monalisa Chinda visited the Kirikiri Prison, Apapa, Lagos for a charity visit which lasted for several hours.

Looking super chic for the visit, Mona rocked a pale chiffon button-up blouse, grey pants and a pair of nude strap platforms. Wavy dark locks, chic dark shades, silver drop earrings and a gold cocktail ring completed the look.

Monalisa donated various items including food stuff, clothes, underwear, toiletries, perfume bottles and sanitary provisions, through her Arise Monalisa Foundation.

She also took time to interact and encourage the prison inmates who were happy to receive her.

Speaking to the inmates on the visit, she said “Though we may not be in control of what happens to us in life, we are absolutely responsible for our reactions to what happens to us. And it is our reaction that ultimately determines the results and quality of our lives. On getting here today, I was told some inmates were recently released by strange interventions, so this can’t be the end for you.”

As some prisoners wept, Mona further said “I want you to know that there is more to your life than your present state and, no matter what anyone has said to you, there is hope for you.”.

According to her rep, the inmates were not allowed to be photographed, but they had a great time bonding with the actress.

During the week which also marked her birthday (Friday 13th September 2013), Monalisa also visited the Patrick Speech & Languages School in Lagos which cares for autistic children, to make donations.

Check out photos.

    • Boma September 17, 2013 at 3:22 pm

Oh shut it already. Those who go to Italy and Timbuktu have done bigger things. You guys like to talk only in the moment! Haba! Welldone JARE Monalisa. Happy birthday.

    • Tillerman September 17, 2013 at 5:35 pm

Shut up. It is vain to give help and tell the world look at me I gave help. What happened to helping people without cameras around. There are some stars who constantly do it but you don’t hear beep from them

      • Nini September 17, 2013 at 6:10 pm

Say it again ooooh. But their kissy ass fans dont see that and will argue with you. Blind Bats. Wear your charitable givings on ya damn sleeves why dont ya. :)

  • FlashFlash September 17, 2013 at 2:13 pm

There’s something genuine about her own visit these places. We’ve seen several celebrities do same but in my opinion, they never really look this sincere. God bless you Monalisa.

    • Miss Anonymous September 18, 2013 at 11:02 am

      She’s an actress duh!

  • fifi September 17, 2013 at 2:16 pm

  • AA September 17, 2013 at 2:20 pm

Monalisa, kudos to you and thank God it is not pictures of you in an orphanage with 10 boxes of indomie. At least you have switched it up to golden penny noodles and inmates :P

Just joking girl!!! More power to you! lolololololol

  • stella September 17, 2013 at 2:21 pm

Well done Monalisa but why showing it to the public? God who sees in secret will also bless you in secret. BN readers dont crucify me, my opinion though.

  • pweety September 17, 2013 at 2:29 pm

    Monalisa,I pray 4u wt my whole @ dat ur hands will neva beg 2eat. U r indeed a role-model,u touch my @.

    • Mz Socially Awkward… September 17, 2013 at 5:26 pm

      “I pray 4u wt my whole @”
      “u touch my whole @”
Really?? It’s come to this??? I can let go of the use of letters as subsitutes for words (u r) and numbers for other words (4u, 2eat). But substituting @ for “heart”???!!! REALLY????????? HOW DID YOU DERIVE THE WORD FROM THAT SYMBOL???????????

      • Diya September 17, 2013 at 6:46 pm

LMAOOOO. Nigerians are very creative…. usually for the wrong things.

      • AA September 18, 2013 at 2:11 pm

I am so glad someone has addressed this issue. THANK YOU!!!

  • sundayotuns September 17, 2013 at 2:40 pm

monalisa, did you see tonto dick?anyway you try.no be politicians wey never visit ophanage homes before upon the jumbo pay them dey collect.

    • Straight4ward September 17, 2013 at 9:03 pm

      Tonto whaaatt??……LOL!!!

  • Naveah September 17, 2013 at 2:41 pm

Great gesture. I am not her and she’s not me o, this is her personal choice but if it’s made public, it will be analyzed as public fodder for discussion.

I think she could have done this (a) anonymously without all the pomp & circumstance of pictures with the displayed donated gifts with that sad looking woman under the tree (b)she could been a little more low key in her dressing for the occasion. She is going to visit women who are down and out, she shows up like a diva with big shades, cocktail rings and how many thousands of naira of weave on her head splayed out. Are you there to show them the contrast between your life and theirs?

    • Straight4ward September 17, 2013 at 9:25 pm

@Naveah: My thoughts exactly. Why all the drama?

  • Naveah September 17, 2013 at 2:42 pm

Having said that, you will never please everyone and such is life, Ms. Monalisa. I’m sure the woman appreciated the gifts, we appreciate you for it as well just not the unnecessary announcement.

  • pp September 17, 2013 at 2:51 pm

must this celebrates take pics of any charity work they do?. that mean you have taken glory by yr self instead of allowing God to bless you for what u have do nawaooooooooooo

    • realMUA September 17, 2013 at 6:12 pm

I WONDER OHHHHHHHHH, even the bible says dont let your left hand know what your right hand has given, all these so called celebs in nigeria just use it to seek attention and stay relevant and get so called fan praises and ratings, its plain disgusting

  • moi September 17, 2013 at 3:17 pm

She could decide not to do anything, but she did something, no matter how little. Thumbs up Monalisa, God bless you.

  • Easy now! September 17, 2013 at 3:26 pm

Haha most Bella naija commenters r
selective and discriminative. This is not fair and it is a big turn off. When Eniola did hers most of una came here nd criticise her. What makes Monalisa better than Eniola? God dey!!!

    • slice September 17, 2013 at 4:26 pm

abi o. i think eniola even gave more stuff sef. Yet see how they pounced on her. Life….

    • chichi September 17, 2013 at 5:43 pm

Amen!!!Exactly what was going through my mind as i was reading the comments..They tore the poor girl apart and now they are blessing Monalisa..The double standard is ridiculous..

  • Ima September 17, 2013 at 3:26 pm

Kudos, girl. Prison ministry is a tough one. Grace of god be unto you

  • libra September 17, 2013 at 3:28 pm

haaaaahaaaa @ pp u must be a shallow minded person…

  • Rosemary September 17, 2013 at 3:31 pm

Thanks for helping out the inmates with ur small token, but 20 cartons of noodles and 2 cartons of whatever is less than 50k. i guess you shd ve given gifts worth 500k to this inmates as a celebrity. well done though

  • zee September 17, 2013 at 3:42 pm

I commend this effort, Monalisa. it was good. but honestly u do not need to publicise this. I am not a celebrity, neither am i rich, but i have been to kirikiri women prisons to visit the inmates and i also took stuff for them . Apart from that, the outfit is kinda wrong. You may leave the poor women depressed and suicidal after your visit.

    • mimi September 18, 2013 at 5:25 pm

nawa oo so people shouldn’t dress well again. how about the inmates having contentment? nawa for una oo

    • cos I say so August 7, 2014 at 5:54 pm

Err I’m sure she did, they were crying

  • Yemy September 17, 2013 at 4:02 pm

U go gal ! Good CSR!!!

  • TrendySturvs Bolg September 17, 2013 at 4:22 pm

I love her hair. God bless you Monalisa

  • Lolade Mafe September 17, 2013 at 4:28 pm

As for me, what matters isn’t the gifts she gave, but her words to them! This is great charity work from Monalisa, love you more my favourite actress.

  • Lolade Mafe September 17, 2013 at 4:28 pm

Those words inspire even me! God bless you Monalisa!

  • Destiny September 17, 2013 at 5:00 pm

I agree with making the visit private matter but how will encourage others to follow suit. Believe it or not, this is where some other people get their inspiration to do good unto others. That said, she could have dressed a bit more simply to appear more ….whatz the word am looking for…….

    • Diya September 17, 2013 at 6:59 pm

After all these years how has it encouraged other people to do the same. They publicize their visits to orphanages but Nigerians (not all) as well as the government don’t give a damn about orphans. We sympathize but that is where it ends. Couples will rather stay childless for so many years and wait on the Lord than adopt a child while praying for the “fruit of the womb”.

I am not questioning the genuineness of Monalisa and the other ones’ good efforts but celebrities all over the world engage in charity work because it adds more value to their brand. Some are real and some are fake. More influential people/companies are most likely going to work with celebrities who promote themselves to care for others. It is a business at the end of the day. Will you partner with Tonto Dike or Monalisa?

    • cos I say so August 7, 2014 at 5:55 pm

      Approachable? Down to earth?

  • Iyke September 17, 2013 at 6:02 pm

Sexy MonaLisa, you are everything I ever wanted…sought and hoped for… You are the epitome of my engaging desire… What else is there to consider…but the presence of grace…in your eyes.
I will find you and I will MARRY YOU.

    • Naveah September 17, 2013 at 8:02 pm

Oh boy fire your dealer o! Wetin dey dat igbo you dey smoke? dis no be normal! you are frustrated BAD poet, please stop disturbing us if you can’t speak straight English e jo o

  • Nini September 17, 2013 at 6:07 pm

Any celebrity that makes their charity donation PUBLIC is fake. Its not about the people or kids they are donating to. Its all about them and the 10 mins photo op. Get the eff outta here with that bullshyt.

IF its truly genuine tell the camera men to stay away and do it privately. Charity my ass.

  • Nini September 17, 2013 at 6:15 pm

NOBODY IS SAYING DONT DONATE OR YOU DIDNT DO WELL TO DONATE. WE ARE SAYING THAT IF IT IS REAL GENUINE AND NOT ABOUT YOURSELVE – TRY THIS CHALLENGE FOR ONCE AS HARD AS IT MIGHT SEEM TO YOUR NARCISTIC SELG, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD KEEP THE CAMERAS AWAY. WE DONT NEED PROOF. ITS BETWEEN YOU, THE RECIPIENTS AND YOUR GOD

  • yvonne September 17, 2013 at 7:27 pm

nice gesture but really if it is a genuine selfless good you wont want itt to be publicised…@nini took all the words from my mouth, thank you!!!!!!!

  • Funmi September 17, 2013 at 7:56 pm

I understand that people are a bit riled up by the seemingly attention-seeking behaviour of celebrities who donate to charitable causes in VERY public ways (I agree with the point that it might have been better if she dressed a bit simpler/ wore flats or something since she was going to be surrounded by people in dire conditions who don’t need their circumstances rubbed in their faces) but biko… Did noone see Iyke’s comment??? The things we see on this BN sha.

  • titi September 17, 2013 at 7:59 pm

all i can say is why she no buy indomie? which one be golden penny?

  • Winifred September 17, 2013 at 8:04 pm

Nice gesture but why the publicity?

  • The Real Madam the Madam September 17, 2013 at 8:33 pm

So the trending thing is for celebs to do charity work on your birthday and then have their PR folks distribute pictures? I’m getting all of them.

  • musa September 17, 2013 at 8:37 pm

Cant all this celebrity do something different for once??? What is Noodles? Are they kids in there? Every Nigerian Celebrity that goes for a charity work… goes with cartons of Noodles, Rubbish! And they drive cars worth millions of Naira. Withdrew 30k all in the name of buying noodles. Shame on these celebrities. And she has the guts to send pix to Blogs on dis Noodles Matter…
    Habatically!!!

    • iba September 18, 2013 at 9:05 am

What have you done for the less privileged even if money was not involved. Have you ever taken out your old cloths and shoes and given to someone less fortunate who truly needed them. my only issue is all this photo taking and showing yourself but damning her outrightly is equally wrong. At least she gave; what have you done???

  • Deebabe September 18, 2013 at 12:06 am

Thumb up girl…whether it’s Fake or really what matter is the fact that she gave to less fortunate. In a country like naija that people don’t really give care much about others.

  • Chinny September 18, 2013 at 12:39 am

    Good for her- God bless!
Agree with the comments about the outfit- she was more interested in looking good for the pics and forgot to consider the fact that she went to visit those who do not have much.
The first pic above looks like she is at a photo shoot…

  • Busola Brown September 18, 2013 at 7:45 am

Stay focused on doing good Monalisa, this is a great one and words can’t express how much I appreciate this great gesture of yours, especially for you inspiring words to those inmates. Pls ignore the negative people who can’t find the courage to follow suit, God bless your sould!

  • Ibukun Mattew September 18, 2013 at 7:47 am

I love monalisa. She’s such a girly girl. I would have liked to see the pictures of the inmates. I’ve never seen female prisoners. Even during my years of legal aid, all the prisoners I met or represented in court were male. I just hope the things she donated will be put to good use because some of these prison officials and wardens are bigger criminals than the ones behind bars.

    • Diya September 19, 2013 at 6:24 pm

Cameras are not allowed in prisons. I have seen them before and they look like human beings in unfortunate conditions. Why would you want to see photos of inmates online? Is being an inmate a thing to publicize? They have already lost most of their rights ,at least let them enjoy a little privacy.

  • Mexi September 18, 2013 at 8:52 am

    And this is news???

  • Teena September 18, 2013 at 1:01 pm

I hope when Angelina and Madonna do it u guys will also ask why they are carrying cameras around.

    • Education September 18, 2013 at 1:55 pm

Abeg shut up there. You want to compare Monalisa Chinda to Angie and Madonna. Who knows Monalisa beyond the shores of Lagos. Pelebrity like her. Anuofia. When globally recognised celebrities are invovled in charity work, Number 1 the cameras are already there because whatever they do is newsworthy anyway so they don’t need their PR people sending photos to blogs and they don’t pose with ther hands on their hips as if it is a red carpet, neither are they glammed up in any way. Have you seen Angie or Madonna work for charity? They wear t shirts and jeans with flats and barely styled hair if at all and little or no makeup. If not for who they are you won’t recognise them. Let BN educate your ignorant brains a little. Click on this link and see Charlize Theron volunteering for Global fund. http://www.bellanaija.com/2013/09/17/hollywood-star-charlize-theron-talks-about-her-activism-love-for-her-homeland-watch-the-inspiring-video-on-cnns-african-voices/
That is one of the most beautiful women in the world. Absolutely stunning. See how simple she is dressed, barely there make up and how she blends in into the environment because she is not there for her (which vain self promoting Monalisa obviously is) but for an issue bigger than her. For one day Monalisa could not let go and give of herself. No she had to come looking all dolled up. That is the kind of person who wants to encourage people. Ta. I will not even talk about what she donated because it will still be helpful she just could have dressed more appropriately just for one day even if it is to pretend.

  • Education September 18, 2013 at 2:02 pm

Number 2. When cameras follow real celebrities around it brings more attention to the issue at hand and encourages others to give their time and donate money. These people are on the so so and so Influential list for a reason because their name and their personalities are powerful. Madam here on the other hand her presence will influence nada. The pictures are simply for PR purposes to benefit her. I smell an ambassadorship in the works now Glo has dumped her ass since she no dey reign anymore.

  • true_talk September 18, 2013 at 5:50 pm

God Bless you missy…but honestly, i dont think you should publicize your good works…such a lovely gesture. we need more people like you

  • olateju juliana September 20, 2013 at 1:22 pm

God bless Monalisa. You could decide to go the Ibiza, Miami, Rio and sent us pictures of your vacation, but you choose do to this. May God reward you back and put smiles on your face. and to crown it all i luv ur outfit but it will have being better if u had make it more simple cos of those u are visiting. keep it up boo
