JaywonNigerian music star Jaywon had an interview with Hip Hop World magazine recently and in the interview the ‘Odun Yii’ singer talks about the fakeness of the music industry, entertainers going into politics, his plans for 2015 and so much more.

Jaywon expresses his displeasure at the fact that a lot of music stars try to live a double life just to be able to ‘fit in’ with expectations.

Read excerpts from his interview below.

On Politics in Nigeria: It is a little bit confusing though. Some people want change, some people want transformation, while some want continuity. But individually we have our opinion and the right to vote for whatever candidate we want. In Nigeria we are so fond of talking and talking. Let’s get our PVC and vote that is the only thing we can do as Nigerians before we criticize. Some people say our vote does not count, who tell una say vote no dey count, u don vote first? If u check na people wey neva collect their PVC na dem dey tlk say vote no count.

On Wizkid & Skales having a Twitter feud: I would not want to talk much about it, however, we are all humans and we say stuffs about other people all the time; sometimes good, sometimes bad. If someone has said something about you that you find offensive, you could go talk to the person instead of going on a social media platform to talk trash about each other.

On the Nigerian music industry: The truth of the matter is the industry is fake; everyone trying to say the next guy is fake. But we do stuffs in the industry that is extravagantly unnecessary. I have had instances when someone calls me up for a collabo, and I’m not available or booked for something else, then i apologise and turn it down, the next thing you would hear is, “Jaywon is fake, he cannot even support his fellow colleagues”. You see someone buy a car, post a picture of the 2015 model, when you see him on the street, he’s driving the 2009 model, why?? I have seen a lot of artistes bad mouth other people because they are trying to promote themselves but the truth is its no news anymore and it is wrong. As a person I try to do what is right by my colleagues as well as my family. I would rather provide for my family than go and pop champagne at clubs and am not saying popping bottles is wrong o, it is just how I set my priorities as an individual. See, if you have listened to M.I featuring 2face and Sultan, ”Human Being” that song sums up the industry we are in.
