Consumers Association of Malawi Declares Today “Black Friday” | Calls for Boycott of South African Businesses

As a result of the ongoing xenophobic attacks on immigrants in South Africa, the Consumers Association of Malawi (CAMA) has declared today “Black Friday,” urging shoppers to dress in all black attire and boycott all South African goods, services, and stores in Malawi.

The directive was given by executive director of CAMA, John Kapito, Nyasa Times reports.

However, Malawi’s government has stated that it does not support the boycott.

“We are urging all citizens to boycott all South African owned outlets such as Shoprite, Game Stores, PEP, Steers, and Spurs, among others,” Kapito said.

According to reports, Malawians in South Africa have been among the victims of xenophobic violence. One of the most chilling instances of the savage attacks was when a 23-year-old Malawian man was pushed in front of a train and killed.
