T Magazine Highlights 11 Women Who Define What Beautiful is Now | Liya Kebede, Amilna Estevao & More
In the world today the balance of power in the beauty world has shifted. Plus-Size models are landing magazine covers and are increasingly seen walking on runways, women with skin and other disorders are taking their place in the fashion world and more.
So, to give an idea of how our world is being defined by a new crop of women today, T Magazine has listed 11 women from various countries that have set a new standard of beauty today.
Liya Kebede, 37 – Ethiopia
Liya Kebede is an Ethiopian beauty that doubles as a maternal health advocate, clothing designer and actress. She’s appeared countless times on the cover of magazines and is one of the top black models in the world.
Amilna Estevao, 16 – Angola
Amilna was born in Angola and is one of the models to watch today.
According to NYTimes, when asked about the importance of beauty in Angola she said – “Where I’m from, beauty is not that important. We place a higher value on other things, like education. We focus more on that and moral values…and that’s it. It’s more important to be intelligent and educated.“
Amber Valletta, 41 – United States
Hollywood actress Amber Valletta is known for her screen presence, her piercing blue eyes and her character in the Revenge series and Hitch, but for T Mag, she is one of the women redefining beauty today.
She told the mag – “It’s essential to feel beautiful to oneself. Not in an egotistical way, but in a self-loving way. To look in the mirror and say, ‘you’re beautiful, I love who you are, because you are me.’ I know that sounds so esoteric and weird, but it’s true. I walk with me every day.“
