A couple in southwest China’s Yunnan Province was arrested for recruiting Vietnamese women who entered China illegally to engage in prostitution, a local procuratorate said on Tuesday.

The couple rented a room for prostitutes in a hotel in Qujing City after the husband, surnamed He, returned from Vietnam in December 2013.

According to the Qilin District Procuratorate in Qujing, the husband learned that recruiting Vietnamese women for prostitution could earn him money.

They allegedly rented four women from ‘brokers’ in Vietnam to work as prostitutes in China, at a price of 20,000 Yuan (3,225 dollars) for each woman who would work for 36 days.

The couple offered them free accommodation and food.

The wife, surnamed Fang, said the women were asked to earn no less than 900 to 1,000 Yuan per day to make profits.

One of the Vietnamese women said she had to have sex with 20 to 30 clients every day when she was working for the couple.

To attract more clients, the couple sent flyers to hotels in Qujing.

“Since the beginning of 2014 to May 29, the couple earned over 100,000 Yuan by recruiting the women into prostitution,’’ the procuratorate said.
