Gov. Rochas Okorocha explains reason behind Mass Sack of Workers in Imo State

Imo State “shook” with the news of the mass sack of State workers in early January.
Scores of the workers in 19 parastatals, agencies and departments were “suspended indefinitely”.

Staff of Imo Water Corporation, Imo Cattle Market, Imo Sports Council, Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission, ENTRACO, Imo Marketing Company, Imo Consumer Protection Council, Hospital Management Board, Imo Tourism Board, Imo Blue Lake of Treasure, Imo State Investment Promotion Agency, Imo Job Centre, Imo Water Development Agency, IWADA, Imo Library Board, Imo Agricultural Loans Board, Imo Livestock, Imo Poverty Alleviation Agency, Imo Palm Plantation, Agricultural Development Programme, ADP and Small Holders Unit were let go.

There were protests from Labour Unions and leaders, however, Governor Rochas Okorocha is standing firm on his decision. He spoke out for the first time regarding the issue yesterday when he met with aggrieved workers.

According to him, the actions were in the best interest of the State. He also said that in the current economic situation, the state can no longer accommodate the “sharp practices” of the affected staff. He outlined that the affected staff were using “the entire resources” of the state.

The labour union responded by saying that the due process was not followed. However, they still support the government.

The man is GREEDY gan. He has set a standard for looting. I wonder if there will be anything remaing especially lands in chioce areas for the next Governor to steal.

There is never an in auspicious time to lose a job. Whether or not we believe its the state’s duty to provide a means of livelihood to its citizens , as enshrined in the principle of welfarism currently practised by France, it is worthy to note that the state must do this in the overall interest of all concerned and not go bankrupt. Nonetheless no one prays for loss of the means of livelihood. It is better and prudent to adopt the philosophy and lifestyle that allows you determine your means of livelihood and how you provide for your family. The children can only understand that daddy ( and or mummy) has lost their job and thus tighten their belt, for so long. Let’s do our best to ensure that our families are not the primary victims of the poor economy recession and our poor choices in not preparing for the worst.

I kind of see where Rochas is coming from. Yes, it could be daunting finding a job, especially at this period of Nigerian economic down time but keeping staff you can afford to pay is stupid and poor management.
Mr. Rochas, how about giving those workers some kind of buy out?
Please don’t chase them away empty handed like that.
Be sure not to replace them with your family and friends. Place embargo on employment and recall them when things ease up..

if the intention is to reform and stop illegal slogan of government work is national cake , i support it, in imo state if you obtain receipt from government office ,it will be written #2500 but they collected 6000 naira from you and at end government will used monthly revenue income from other sources and pay them salary, one man i know uses ten names to collect salary on monthly basis,,one i know also was in dubai but his brother and parents share his salary on monthly basis since 2013 to 2015 i know him ,ROCHAS Okorocha i have been praying when God will rescue imo state and open wide job opportunities for jobless and graduates youths may ALMIGHTY GOD gives you more support and protection to save imolites.

Igbos are fighting for Biafra forgetting they have to fix their homes first. What excuse does he have to “buy” a Christmas tree when he cannot pay his workers? Someone will soon tell me the problem with Igbos is Nigeria maltreating them and yet here is your own son robbing you blind.

    P.S I AM IGBO TOO!!!!!!!!!!!

He knowns the ministeries that have been doing that , you think he will not to send spies around his ministries to know , how money issues goes. A very good govnor will put spies everyone to Check ministries . So he knowns them. God will never allow Imo to fall or even Nigeria because Igbos are many. Corruption has to stop in all ministries , some collect double salaries . Whenever you pay govt fees you have to Pay extra again to staffs otherwise they leave your Job, killing. Wicked attitude over ppl in ministries.
