Ursula Obianuju Nwobu: 6 Ways to Rock Your Sheer Blouse

The year 2016 is still somewhat new and the stylish fashionistas are on the look out for trends that will dominate the fashion space this year. While some of us can’t wait to flood our wardrobe and play adventure on the new trends, we ought to master how best to wear the outfits we currently have. With the state of our economy, prudent spending is very much advised.

The sheer blouse is a favourite to a lot of ladies. I may not be much of a fan, solely because it requires extra care to maintain them; but it’s a fashion item I believe every lady should own. The Harmattan is slowly packing up and with the rainy season, will come a good amount of heat, so you’ll love to wear your sheer blouses more often.

How best can we wear them you may ask? Here are 6 sure ways to rock your sheer blouse.

Use a Camisole
I’ve come across a good number of ladies who wear their sheer blouses without a camisole leaving their underwear out in the open. I believe there’s really no need to bare it all. Even if you’re shooting a music video, or wearing an expensive Victoria Secret underwear, you can still look top-notch classy with a camisole. You can choose to wear a strapless or thin-strapped camisole, whichever one will work just fine. Go with a black or nude camisole or one with a colour close enough to that of your sheer blouse so it seems like they came together. Also when wearing your camisole underneath your sheer blouse, be sure to use a strapless bra. If you must use a bra with straps, ensure that it is of uniform colour with your camisole. Let’s avoid confusing the eyes of our admirers with conflicting colours and patterns.

Pair with a skirt or trousers
I’m a sucker for sheer blouses paired with flared skirts. I think it just adds a classy aura to the entire look. Whether your sheer blouse is fitted or loose, a flared skirt is one you should try it on with. A pencil skirt is also great for that sultry Monday office look you want to nail. Add your heels to the mix and you’ll be strutting the streets feeling like Beyoncé. Have you tried pairing it with a pair of flared-bottomed jeans? Oh so lovely. Opt for a high waist pair of jeans and you’ll be glad you did so. Leather pants are a cool option as well.

Keep it tucked in
Sheer blouses are best worn tucked in. Leaving it loose just looks a bit tacky to the eyes if not properly worn. There’s the risk of your camisole dripping underneath your blouse or folding upwards and that’s not pretty at all. It could be quite uncomfortable as well. If you must wear it un-tucked, then pair with a pencil skirt and don’t forget to tuck in your camisole. You must not forget that.

Be free to layer
Some ladies shy away from layering for fear of getting it wrong. Well, here is a little tip. Your sheer blouse will look as pretty as stew on rice when you layer with a blazer. The soft feel of the blouse underneath a blazer is quite beautiful. I’ll advise you pick a short-sleeved sheer blouse to layer with your blazer for a finer finish. You could also try out your sheer top with a chunky sweater for times when it’s cold outside. Leave a little inch of your sheer blouse hanging underneath your sweater and you’ll be smiling at the pretty little effect it’ll leave. Luxury, they say, is in the little things.

Carefully accessorize
I’m very big on accessories but with the sheer blouse you have to pay extra care on the kind of accessories you adorn your neck with. Since the sheer blouse is mostly made of soft materials, be sure not to wear accessories that are sharp and pull on your blouse, thus damaging the fabric.

Check for holes
I once went out with my sheer blouse for a meeting and while I stepped out of the cab, I noticed my sheer blouse had gone to get itself a hole! It was made of lacy material so the hole was easy to miss yet I was still as uncomfortable as words can describe. If your sheer blouse is made of such material you should constantly check for such errors to avoid feeling the way I felt. Once that is checked, then step out and give the world a show.

Fashion doesn’t need to be expensive. You don’t need to break a bank or rob le boo to look classy. A black or nude sheer top can be worn in different ways to give the illusion that you own more than one. This is the year of stylishly wise investments. Rock your sheer blouse with these tips and let’s walk the streets of 2016 like angels in Prada.
